Whether it be the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup Final, the World Series or NBA Finals or even the Indy 500, besides the athletic performances and all of the razzle dazzle that comes with sporting events of that magnitude, the singing of the National Anthem has become an event in and of itself, as we have seen numerous females successfully and unsuccessfully attempt the impressive feat.
Sometimes, we wonder why there's the tradition of singing the national anthem at the sporting event. Perhaps it's the fact that we're able to enjoy the freedom of spending our time watching this event and we're free to do it because we live in a country that allows us to do so, hence we honor our country with the national anthem.
With that in mind, with Canada Day freshly in the rear-view mirror, and Independence Day right around the corner, we here at The Sportster decided to create a Top 10 list of the hottest women to sing the National Anthem. We couldn't think of a better day than the Fourth of July weekend to reflect on moments where we could truly feel proud of our country for having such a beautiful and talented singer. Sorry to all of you Roseanne Barr fans out there, but while her rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" in 1990 at Jack Murphy Stadium will forever live in infamy, she unfortunately didn't make the cut.

15 Idina Menzel
We might as well start with one fresh in our minds. Idina Menzel performed the national anthem at this year's Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Menzel has made her name on Broadway. She's set to have a major role in the upcoming production of If/Then. Menzel still looks great at 44 and she gave a fantastic rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner this year.
14 Karen Newman
Karen Newman not only is an occasional national anthem singer, but she's the wonderful voice we hear at most Detroit Red Wings games, belting out The Star Spangled Banner and the occasional Oh Canada when a Canadian team comes into Motown. In addition to singing for the Red Wings, Newman is a big name in the Detroit area, known for her annual Christmas concerts. The Red Wings sure got the idea right when choosing an anthem singer. She's performed the anthem at the Joe for over 20 years and still looks amazing.
13 Lilian Garcia
Lilian Garcia has sung the national anthem plenty of times at WWE events, including many WrestleManias and her most memorable performance was following the 9/11 attacks back in 2001. However she has also performed at several sporting events, including a Jets and 49ers game this past season at Metlife. It's amazing that Lilian still looks as good as she does at 48 years old, but she has been a beauty as long as we could remember.
12 Briannah Donolo
An unknown on this list compared to some of the others, but Briannah Donolo caught some attention this past season in Montreal when she sang both the American and Canadian national anthems at a Canadiens game. Donolo is currently working on an album and is also a model at the LOOK agency in Montreal. While many may not know her name now, she could be a breakout star among Canadian singers in the near future. At the very least, we could expect her at more Habs games.
11 Leslie Easterbrook
Leslie Easterbrook became best known for her role as a cop in the Police Academy movies, but before that, she was an accomplished singer and a well known actress in TV series. She got the big singing gig of performing the national anthem at Super Bowl XVII between the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Redskins. Some of her other famous gigs included roles on Dukes of Hazard and Baywatch.
10 The Dixie Chicks
While there were originally four members in the group that originated from Dallas, Texas in 1989, the band made some changes and has consisted of sisters Martie Erwin Maguire, Emily Erwin Robison, and lead singer Natalie Maines for the last several years. Throughout their career, the country music trio has won numerous awards. There are two reasons why they end up on this list. The first is their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the 2003 Super Bowl between the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Buccaneers. The second reason is because of the aforementioned Emily Erwin Robison who is without question the hottest member of the group.
9 Christina Aguilera
No one was harder to grade than the former one of the judges of The Voice who sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV. While her talent has never been a question - besides the Super Bowl, she also sang the American National Anthem as a child at Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers games, as well as the 1992 Stanley Cup Final - her physical appearance on the other hand hasn't always been so flawless. Throughout the years, we have seen her look stunning, but there has also been some times where we've seen her look the exact opposite. Although her sex appeal is on come up once again, for arguments' sake however, we'll put her in the 9 spot, but she once, and still does have the potential to rank so much higher.
8 Carrie Underwood
The wife of Nashville Predators' forward Mike Fisher comes in at the number 8 spot. Lucky Mr. Fisher. There is no denying that the former American Idol winner is talented. She is a seven-time Grammy award winner, and an eight-time American Music Award winner. She was also chosen to sing the American National Anthem at the 2006 MLB All-Star Game, and the 2010 Super Bowl. Add that to the fact hat she has worked and appeared in various advertisements for companies like Olay, Vitamin Water, Sketchers, and Target among others, and it's clear that her beauty matches her singing talent.
7 Jordin Sparks
The beautiful singer, actress, and songwriter burst onto the scene after she won season 6 of American Idol. While the fact that she is the daughter of former New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Phillippi Sparks might not be enough to get her on the list, the fact that she sang the "Star-Spangled Banner" at numerous Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, and Arizona Diamondbacks games, Super Bowl XLII and at this year's Indianapolis 5oo race is what solidifies her spot. The talented BET and American Music Award winning pop singer has a connection with our next entrant on the list, as they both stared in the movie Sparkle.
6 Whitney Houston
Arguably the biggest name on the list, the late R&B and pop icon had many memorable performances throughout her remarkable career. As it relates to the world of sports however, the one that stands out the most, and gets shown repeatedly on Sportscenter is Houston's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner in 1991 at "The Big Sombrebro" for the classic Super Bowl XXV contest between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. While the performance which was met with controversy due to allegations that the singer lip synced, there is no debate that the record breaking artist's amazing vocal talents were matched by her beauty in her prime and even in her later years.
5 Faith Hill
While most football fans might remember Tim McGraw's wife from her time as the voice of NBC's Sunday Night Football's intro song, the pop and country singer had the honor of performing the American National Anthem at the 2000 Super Bowl. It's hard to imagine, but Hill who was 32 at the time of the NFL title game between the St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans, is even better looking today at the age of 47.
4 Jennifer Hudson
The wife of professional wrestler David Otunga has used her singing talents as a stepping stone. She won an Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a motion picture for her role as Effie White in the 2006 hit movie Dreamgirls. From there the American Idol season 3 winner transformed her body as she lost nearly 80 pounds, and eventually became the spokesperson for Weight Watchers.
Her performance of the Star-Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XLIII at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay was very emotional, as it was her first public appearance after the murder of her mother, brother, and nephew. Hudson also went on to sing an emotionally-charged rendition of "America the Beautiful" with the Sandy Hook Elementary School chorus at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.
3 Vanessa L. Williams
The longtime actress, singer, producer, and former model has been in front of the camera for what seems like forever. The fact that she still looks amazing today at the age of 52 says a lot about the 1984 Miss America Pageant winner. Williams who over her career has seen many of her songs become hit singles, has also seen her vocals withstand the test of time, as she has sold more than six million albums. Those aforementioned vocals were on display when she sang the American National Anthem at Sun Devil Stadium for Super Bowl XXX in Tempe, Arizona.
2 Mariah Carey
While her life is currently plastered all throughout the headlines, there is no debating the sex appeal and vocal talents of the singer who was behind such hit singles like "Vision of Love", "Hero", "We Belong Together" and "Honey" to name a few. While many including yours truly will never forget her performance (more specifically her Michael Jordan Washington Wizards dress) at the 2003 NBA All-Star Game where she performed a tribute to MJ, her singing of the National Anthem at the 2003 Super Bowl and "America the Beautiful" at the 1990 NBA Finals are almost as memorable.
Who else did you think would get the number 1 spot on this list besides Mrs. Carter? The former lead singer of Destiny's Child has sung her country's national anthem on numerous occasions. What ranks her at the top of this list is not that she is arguably the most popular artist out of all the names, and not her ability to effortlessly look as good as she does, but the 33-year-old's combination of beauty, charisma, sex appeal and talent. While everybody on this list has talent, some of their performances do tend to blend together after a while. That doesn't appear to be the case when Beyonce performs. Her halftime performance at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans literally caused the power to go out of the stadium. Who else on this list can claim that?
