As sports fans, most of us experience some great form of frustration at one time or another. Some of the fan bases we will be discussing only encounter brief periods of frustration, while others experience long, gruelling periods of frustration. Whether your team has come close to winning the big championship several times and never quite made it or if your team has never even been remotely close, you can appreciate and understand the frustration that goes along with being a passionate sports fan.

Thankfully, in this day and age, some leagues have implemented salary caps, this allows teams to build from the draft. Take the Chicago Blackhawks for example, as they were awful in the 90s and managed to rebuild their entire team with two first round picks. selecting Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. The Toronto Maple Leafs are hoping to follow this and selecting Austin Matthews will certainly change the morale of the fanbase. Unfortunately, for some other teams on this list, the future doesn't look so bright.

So let's begin with our first entrant on our list. A fan base that met the brunt of their frustration this year.

15 15. St. Louis Rams

Most of you remember the greatest show on turf of the late 90s, when the St. Louis Rams were one of the most exciting football teams in the league. Iconic, legendary players such as Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Torry Holt, and Isaac Bruce led the Rams to many exciting seasons and even a Super Bowl championship.

However, good times weren't meant to last after this legendary group parted ways. The Rams would fall on unfortunate times. Kurt Warner would be dismissed early due to injuries, only to lead the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl the following year in 2009. The Rams would see many changes of the guard at the Qb position, due to the teams apparent lack of ability to build a functioning offensive line scheme.

The Rams would also see their top QB prospect, Sam Bradford, flop, although more of that should be credited to his severe lack of targets to throw to.

However, the ultimate frustration for the St.Louis Rams fan base was in 2015 when owner Stan Kroenke opted to move the team back to their home in Los Angeles while making disparaging remarks about the fans. This did more than add insult to injury, this dealt a fatal blow to a loyal collection of football fans who are now at a loss.

14 14. Los Angeles Lakers

One of the most storied franchises in the history of sports, the LA Lakers have an incredible 16 championships to their name. The team has boasted such Hall of Fame talents as Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, and that's just naming a few. They've had their ups and downs over the years, but since their last championship in 2010, they've seen mostly downs.

After a failed experiment of adding elite center Dwight Howard, and the loss of Pau Gasol, not to mention Steve Nash being signed and not being able to play, things have been less than good fortune for the Lake Show.

The Lakers featured an amazing, talented young roster during this 2015-16 season which was also the retirement season for long-time Laker great, Kobe Bryant. Now, the discussion as to whether or not Kobe did this team a great injustice by always going out on the floor and "getting his" can be saved for another day. We'll focus on the fact that the golden boy for the Lakers during the last 20 seasons is now retired and they're left to rebuild with from ground one with a young team lacking an identity. It seems sometimes that fan bases who are accustomed to winning, often become more frustrated than fan bases who are used to losing.

13 13. Buffalo Bills

Those poor Buffalo Bills fans. Since its inclusion into the NFL, the Bills franchise has made 13 playoff appearances, with the last happening in 1999. I'm not exactly superstitious, but a lot can be said for unlucky 13 for the Buffalo Bills. Maybe it's the curse of O.J. Simson. Who knows? In any event, the Bills have missed the playoffs for 16 straight seasons, an NFL record. While in the last few seasons, their attempts at rebuilding have at least bared the fruits that are a solid defensive front and emerging Tyrod Taylor at the QB position, much remains to be seen for the bills. As frustrating as it may be to be a Bills fan,  they still seem to back their team, blue and red Zubaz and all.

12 12. Oakland Raiders

Growing up in a family full of Raiders fans, there's one glaring memory I have of this team at a young age; they were a team to be feared and respected. It's no wonder they were the logo of choice for gangster rap group N.W.A. They had a brand of smash mouth football that was just fun to watch.

What may have been most crushing and frustrating for the Raiders was their 48-21 loss to the Tampa Buccaneers in their Super Bowl meeting in 2002. Oh and there's that JaMarcus Russell guy (Note: Russel has recently offered his services to NFL suitors, free of charge).

Maybe with this bright looking roster the Raiders have built recently, we may soon see a positive season after so many disappointments.

11 11. Milwaukee Brewers

Just when you think they're moving in the right direction, they take a few steps backwards. 2012 and 2014 were winning seasons for Milwaukee, however 2013 and 2015 were not. Perhaps they will continue their trend of successful even numbered year campaigns in 2016.

This must be downright aggravating for their fans. It's tough to watch your team flip flop all over the place, despite having good years. Sometimes it's just nice to see your team have something to show for their good years. This hasn't been the case in Milwaukee.

10 10. Minnesota Timberwolves

Here's a team who has it rough. Here's a team that saw eight straight playoff appearances from from 1996 to 2004, only to never even make it to the NBA finals.

What is further frustrating for the T'Wolves fans is that when their beloved Kevin Garnett departed, he went on to win a championship in a different city. Also, their second next big thing, Kevin Love, is finding great success in Cleveland and could potentially win a championship this season. If that were to happen, this would only further the realization that they had championship level players who had they been surrounded by the right team, could have brought a championship to Minnesota.

9 9. Houston Rockets

Here's a team who hasn't seen a championship since the days of Hakeem the Dream, despite having rosters who are well capable of winning it all. We saw the amazing Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady team yield great playoff success, only to be beat by the Lakers. Also, despite the current James Harden led bunch which everyone was certain would get a title once assembled, we still haven't seen a meaningful Rockets playoff run. Their fans, while still hopeful that they will acquire Kevin Durant, are awfully frustrated.

8 8. Dallas Cowboys

Normally, a notoriously hated football team has tons of success. That's not the case with the Cowboys. No, their team bears the same level hate as say a New England Patriots, without the merit badges. Not to mention, it may be safe to say the Tony Romo era is over. Also, with Jerry Jones backing his team, you'd think they'd assemble the greatest roster ever assembled. That's just not true.

Cowboys fans. They get all of the hate and none of the glory.

7 7. Sacramento Kings

Team after team, coach after coach, The Sacramento Kings just can't seem to get anything meaningful going in their favor. While they have one of the most loyal fan bases in all of sports, the Kings haven't made the playoffs since 2004. In recent memory, Kings Nation flocked to Twitter to express the Kings distaste at the organization firing coach Mike Malone, much to the dismay of DeMarcus Cousins.

The Kings sniffed the playoffs for a period of time this season, even holding an 8 spot. However, it seemed every time they would win five games, they would lose 10. That's gotta sting. If they lose their top player DeMarcus Cousins and don't come up with something good in return, it's safe to say the Sacto loyal might let their frustrations be known a little bit louder on social media.

6 6. St. Louis Blues

It's a good thing the people of St.Louis have their beloved Cardinals because without them they'd be stuck with their, although beloved, very frustrating St.Louis Blues team.

The Blues are in a great position at the moment in the playoffs, however, if nothing comes of it, the song will remain the same for Blues fans. They rabidly support their team in the playoffs only to see them coming up short.

The most glaring statistic is the team has had 38 playoff appearances and not one championship. Maybe 39 will be different? For the sake of Blues fans and their blood pressure, let's hope so.

5 5. New York Jets

There's nothing worse than being one game away from the big dance and losing. This was the case in the Jets' back to back AFC title game losses in 2010 and 2009. Also notable, 2010 was the last playoff run for the Jets. Jets fans showed their frustration with many tweets, boos, and ticket sales (lack thereof) since then. However, things may be looking up for the Jets in the coming seasons, but it remains to be seen.

4 4. Brooklyn Nets

A team who hasn't seen much playoff success since back to back trips to the NBA Finals in the early 2000s. It's safe to say, they haven't seen much success since Jason Kidd as a player, and even less as a coach. They're re-branding campaign and move to Brooklyn went over well with fans, but not much else. They built a new "big three" in Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett and even added Joe Johnson. On paper, this team looked destined for success. However, nothing came of it, the team broke up and they're currently strewing into obscurity. Brooklyn fans are frustrated and even annoyed at the moment.

3 3. Philadelphia Eagles

Here's a simple case of possibly the most talented team in the NFL, who have seen multiple playoff berths since the year 2000, but still nothing. Since 2009, they have appeared in three wild card playoff games only to be defeated. They had great 10-6 records in 2013 and 2014 respectively and dropped to 7-9 in 2015. We all know Philadelphia fans are never shy about showing their feelings, but they are definitely frustrated and have every right to be.

2 2. The City of Cleveland

Between the Indians, The Browns, and The Cavaliers, the city of Cleveland and a fan base as a whole are majorly frustrated.

We're all aware og the woes of the Browns and the near hits and misses and otherwise dismal seasons of the Indians, but it may be the Cavaliers that have generated the most frustration.

Back in 2004, when LeBron James was drafted, the city had reason to celebrate. When he departed for Miami, the city became unglued and, in an ultimate act of frustration, took to the streets to show their distaste for those events.

However, LeBron made his return to Cleveland two seasons ago and took them to the Finals only to meet a surging Warriors team while the Cavs lost two of their top players to injury. Frustration set in again. Although Cleveland has probably dealt with more misfortune than any sports city in history, they're again in the Conference Finals and poised to win a championship. However, there's fierce competition in the Western Conference. Will Cleveland's fate change this year? Possibly. If not, the frustration will only grow.

1 1. Chicago Cubs

I know it's easy to pick on the poor Cubs, but their fans are more than justified in their frustration. Cubs fans are a proud lot who celebrate their team's rich heritage, but they've seen a very bad 100 years as a team.

Since the 80s, they've seen a few NLDS victories with NLCS losses, and quite a few more NLDS losses. Notable, the Cubs were swept in their NLDS series in 2007 and 2008.

Cubs fans have had their hopes and dreams shattered on many occasions and last year was no different. The Cubs finished with a 97-65 record, won the wild card game, and defeated their long time rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-1 in the NLDS. Things seemed to be going great for the Cubs, better than they had in years.

However as history teaches us when it comes to the Cubs, don't get your hopes up. The Cubs lost the NLCS to the Mets 4-0.

Perhaps the most frustrating aspect to Cubs fans isn't the long periods of terrible seasons, but rather the seasons where they seem to be steamrolling to arrive at a screeching halt.

I'm not here to bash the Cubs, though. I hope they pull things together and reward their frustrated, yet loyal fan base.
