“To ruin (a photograph) by appearing in the image without the photographer’s knowledge, often in some dramatic or comical way,” is the definition of a photobomb given by dictionary.com.

While dramatic photobombs seem to be a bit of a rarity, the comical photobomb is becoming all the rage. Moreover, now that nearly everyone carries cameras with them on their cellphones, the opportunities for would-be photobombers are seemingly endless.

Parties, weddings, and even graduations are all potential hot spots for those who practice the art known as photobombing. Those who have perfected the craft may even find themselves in the back of a celebrity photo making an awkward gesture or facial expression. That being said, there are times when even celebrities decided to get in on the action.

In fact, pro athletes, for example, seem to love trying to get a laugh at the expensive of the unsuspecting photographer. Truthfully, some of the best photobombs ever executed have been pulled off by popular sports stars.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the 15 most hilarious photobombs in the history of sports.

Don’t be surprised if your favorite athlete is a bomber or a bombee in one of these images.

15 15. Candid Cam-era

In this picture Olympic alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn is on the receiving end of a photobomb. Football fans may recognize the photobomber, Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton. This photo fail was taken at the New York Stock Exchange back in 2014.

At just under 5-foot-10, with flowing blonde hair and a slender athletic physique, Lindsey Vonn is widely considered to be one of the most attractive females in all of sports. In this photo, the skier is trying to look good for the camera as per usual, and while she may have succeeded, it’s unlikely anyone will notice, with Cam Newton in the background flashing a peace sign.

Vonn has no idea she is being photobombed, which makes for a hilarious pic. Newton probably should have gone with bunny ears instead of a peace sign though.

14 14. The Infamous Green Man

Eldrick “Tiger” Woods is one of the most successful golfers the sport has ever seen. He is also one of the most recognized athletes in the world and has been the subject of a great deal of controversy in recent years. Woods' notoriety even captured the attention of the mysterious “Green Man.”

Finding the “Green Man” in this photo shouldn’t be a difficult task for anyone. Of course, finding him will lead one to the obvious question; “who is this guy?” According to Mlive.com, the man who first appeared at the Buick Open in 2009, claimed his name was Rusty Shackleford. Apparently, Shackleford’s mission was to save both the Buick Open and Flint, Michigan. If you are waiting for any of this to make sense, it will be a long wait.

Anyone willing to wear that outfit to professional golf outing deserves a solid grade.

13 13. Rowdy Rodgers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the top players in the entire National Football League. He is a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time NFL MVP, and a Super Bowl Champion. The site features the QB sneaking up behind his unsuspecting teammates and ruining their picks.

Before there was so much controversy surrounding the national anthem, the only thing Packers players had to worry about on the sidelines was the potential of being photobombed by their star quarterback. The photographer is trying to capture the serious expression on these players' faces, but Rodgers is having none of it, as he interjects with his goofy expression.

Rodgers has clearly mastered the craft.

12 12. Bush Bomb

George W. Bush is best known for being the 43rd President of the United States. However, prior to becoming president, Bush owned a portion of the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball franchise and still attends games from time to time. Bush is a former president, sports team owner, and last but not least, a photobomber.

Last May, Bush interrupted Fox Sports reporter Emily Jones and shouted “Hey” into the camera while she was on the air. Afterword, in true photobomber fashion, the former commander-in-chief walked off like nothing ever happened. Jones later playfully confronted Bush and asked him if he had photobombed her. The former president came clean and confessed to the deed.

This was a solid effort from the former leader of the free world.

11 11. LeBron Photobomb

LeBron James is a 6-foot-8 small forward for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. He is 13-time All-Star and four-time MVP, who has also won three NBA Championships. James will go down as one of the greatest players to ever set foot on a basketball court and will certainly be inducted into the Hall of Fame once his stellar career is over. The Akron, Ohio native is not only a good basketball player but also a pretty decent photobomber.

In this photo, the All-Star can be seen sneaking up behind NBC 6 reporter Laura Rodriguez during his visit to a local children’s hospital. James smiles awkwardly in the frame, as the cameramen in the background look on.

Based on the expression on Rodriguez’s face, it looks like Lebron James may have been caught in the act; a nice attempt though.

10 10. The People's Photobomber

45-year-old Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a movie star, pro wrestler, and all around great entertainer. During his wrestling days, The Rock was known for giving great interviews (promos) and his multiple world title reigns. As an actor, he’s known for playing Luke Hobbs in The Fast and the Furious Franchise, as well appearing in several other Hollywood blockbusters. With credential like that, it’s easy to see why the gentlemen  shown here would want a photo with the former champ.

It would appear that the plan was to capture a photo with Johnson as he walked by. However, much to the surprise of the photographer (and the man in the photo), the movie star looked over at the camera and acknowledged them with this zany expression.

The Rock pulls off an excellent drive by photobombing.

9 9. Bearcat Bombers

The Cincinnati Bearcats is the name given to the sports teams that represent the University of Cincinnati. In this instance, we will be discussing the universitie's baseball team. Bearcats baseball has helped produce some outstanding MLB player’s over the years. Pitcher (and Hall of Famer) Sandy Koufax, former Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis, and current Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ all played college ball at the University of Cincinnati. However, it’s unlikely that any of the previously mentioned players ever participated in an epic photobomb like the one pictured here.

While their teammate is being interviewed, two Bearcats look like they are trying to discover The New World in the background, with a photobomb that might even make explorer Leif Erikson proud.

It’s always good to see teammates working together to achieve photobomb excellence.

During his time on the FSU baseball team, Winston took part in the outstanding photobomb shown here.

While these two ESPN reporters are attempting to break down all the happenings in FSU baseball, Winston can be seen doing the robot in the background. Despite the fact that the dance was invented in 1967, well before Winston was born, his moves are still on point.

Winston could be the next NFL player to appear on Dancing with the Stars, with moves like this.

7 7. The Drooling Fan

Let be honest, preseason games in almost any sport can be a little dull at times. The games are meaningless, and the crowd’s energy level is often very low. There were more than a couple empty seats at the NBA preseason game featuring the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics (shown here) back in October of 2016. However, the empty seats likely aren’t the first thing people will notice when looking at this photo.

Commentators Hubie Brown and Dave Pasch are clearly being upstaged by the guy drooling in the background. The man’s actions will definitely go down as one of the more unique ways to try and liven up a preseason broadcast.

It takes a certain level of commitment to risk ruing a collared shirt for a good photobomb. That being said, this image is pretty gross.

6 6. The Royal Bomber

North American sports fans may not recognize the three gentlemen sitting front and center in this photo. In this pic, we have New Zealand rugby Sevens coach Sir Gordon Tietjens (pictured on the left), a University professor named Emeritus Gary Hermansson (shown on the right), and Sports Manawatu executive Trevor Shailer (center). While folks may not recognize the men in the front, they will certainly recognize Prince Harry of Wales giving the thumbs in the background of the image.

The runner-up to the English throne shows he has a good sense of humor in this instance. Royals are thought to be stuffy and uptight, but the prince appears to disprove the stereotype in this case.

5 5. Grin And Beer It

Calgary Flames right winger Jaromir Jagr was drafted 5th overall in the NHL Draft all the way back in 1990. Roughly 27 years later, the native of Kladno, Czechoslovakia’s career is still going strong. The 45-year-old is the leading point scorer among active NHL players and is behind only Wayne Gretzky on the all-time scoring list. Sitting right next to one of the greatest hockey players  ever, would seem like an excellent photo opportunity.

In this shot, the fan sets down his beers and poses in front of Jagr, who responds by playfully sticking out his tongue. Photobomb aside, it makes for a much more interesting photo, if only the hockey star had been simply looking straight ahead.

The hockey vet showcases his photobomb skills in this hilarious image.

However, in this instance, it looks as though the power hitter is hoping to contend for the title of Most Valuable Photobomber.

These young ladies were hoping to take a group photo at the Ranger’s stadium (Globe Life Park), when Hamilton decided to stop by and say hello. Also, from the angle this photo was taken, it almost looks like the bat is going through the guy on the right’s head.

3 3. Roy In The Rear

Retired Major League Baseball pitcher Roy Oswalt had an amazing career, most of which he spent as a member of the Houston Astros. He was a three-time All-Star and the National Leagues ERA leader in 2006. Oswalt finished his career with 163 wins, 1,852 strikeouts, and 3.36 earned run average (ERA). The right-hander also managed to fit in an excellent photobomb as we can see here.

It seems like whenever a player or coach is doing a game-time interview, there is always someone in the dugout looking to upstage them. In this instance, Oswalt sneaks behind his pitching coach Rich Dubee and shows off his exceptional photobombing skills for the world to see.

In terms of a  photobomb, Roy Oswalt most definitely smoked Dubee in this instance.

2 2. Bombing In The Mid West

Right-handed hurler Joe Kelly is a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, who previously played with the St. Louis Cardinals. He has served as both a starting pitcher and reliever over the course of his career. Kelly has an impressive fastball that can reach as high as 102.2 miles per hour. He also appears to have an impressive knack for finding outstanding photobomb opportunities, as we can see here.

Fox Sports Midwest girls Kayla and Teryn are just doing their thing, posing on the St. Louis Cardinal’s dugout. In the background, Kelly can be seen jumping into the arms of his teammate. Through his efforts, the pitcher even wound up in a photo gallery dedicated to Fox Sports Midwest girls.

Joe Kelly shows some originality with this particular bomb.

1 1. Double Trouble

Dancing with the Stars host and Fox NFL sideline reporter Erin Andrews is one of the most popular television personalities in all of sports. The 5-foot-10 blonde was named America’s sexiest sportscaster by Playboy magazine in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The famed reporter also has sports ties through her husband, NHL player Jarrett Stoll. She is also the subject of a wicked double photobomb in this particular instance.

It’s hard to decide who deserves more credit for this photobomb, the man with dreads or the guy staring at the camera like he’s in a trance. On second thought, it’s pretty clear the guy with the beard is the MVP of this photobomb. Perhaps they are just so excited to be standing next to Erin Andrews, that this is their natural response.
