This list is compiled of some of the most depressed and losing cities in the United States, related to professional sports. Some of the teams in this list have not won a championship for a long time, if at all, to the dismay of most fans who live in those citites.

From the East coast to the West coast, the cities I list are not fun cities to live in if your a sports fanatic. While it could reason that the fans in these cities are loyal, they in know way compare to the fandom found in cities where their team has rings/cups/or trophies.  It could be argued that cities in this list are not boring for lack of wins, but everyone has an opinion.

Sports fans live and die on game winning shots, game winning field goals, and spectacular plays, it's just natural. People get excited over the biggest plays in the game because they matter the most. This may be factual, but the most boring sports markets, do actually lose population to bigger sports markets.

In other words, the crappy sports markets of America lose population to bigger markets. And the truth is, bigger business markets in general, are where the most popular sports teams reside. Sports and business works hand in hand, which is no coincidence. If there is a correlation between business success and sports popularity, then there must be a correlation between bad sports markets, and not the best business success in the state.

This article details the 15 worst cities in the United States to be a sports fan. I looked at the cities that have professional sports franchises and the quality of those teams. Only the four major team sports (football, baseball, basketball and hockey) will be taken into consideration because team sports are when city pride is a factor.

To kick it off at #15.....

15 15. Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis is known for corn, that is basically it. Oh yeah, and the Colts, and the Pacers... and Butler I guess. Indianapolis wouldn't be on this list, if Peyton Manning was still there, or if he would have stayed in the city, but ever since he left, so did the city's popularity. The Pacers are an average team at best, and yes, it could be argued that they are getting better, but I don't see them going anywhere too fast. Their respective divisions are just too stacked to provide any real run at a title in the foreseeable future.

The city hasn't been too lucky in terms of winning success, minus the Super Bowl in 2006, and an NBA Finals appearance in 2000.

14 14. Tampa Bay, Florida

Tampa Bay has the Buccaneers, the Rays and the Lighting, representing football, baseball, and hockey respectively. The last victory that Tampa Bay has to its name is a Super Bowl, nearly a decade and a half ago. Being a fan in a city that hasn't won a championship for quite awhile must be hard. There is little hope for the city, but I guess the fact that the Lighting are real contenders is helpful to their egos. Despite having a playoff hockey team, Tampa Bay isn't exactly turning fans away, as the Rays rarely have a full house.

13 13. Phoenix, Arizona

Arizona hasn't won a championship in nearly 15 years, with the last being brought to the state by the Diamondbacks in 2001. The Cardinals were close to doing so in the Super Bowl in 2009, but failed by the skin of their teeth. They seemed to be on their way this year, before getting blown out by the Panthers in the NFC Championship.

The Suns have't been good for a while, and finished with a disappointing 23-59 record.

Oh yeah, and there's a hockey team there called the Coyotes, but nobody in the city really notices.

If I was the biggest sports fan in the world, this would NOT be on my list of places to move, or anywhere near it, as it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel for any of these teams.

12 12. Atlanta, Georgia

Remember that thing in the NFL, about the team who created fake sound, because their fans were too silent to make their own noise? Yeah that happened here, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Falcons don't attract a big crowd to games regularly, which causes home field advantage to be more of an idea, than a reality. The three franchises; the Falcons, Hawks, and Braves haven't been the most productive. The Braves last won in 1995, the Falcons never have won, and the Hawks' last NBA Title was won in 1958.

The city's hockey team lasted just 12 years in the NHL before relocating to Winnipeg. When your team leaves for Winnipeg, you know it's rough.

Even worse, these teams are always in the first few rounds of the playoffs, so it's just enough to tease fans, then snatch their hearts out.

11 11. Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. is home to one of the worst cities to be a fan because of percentage by season. The Redskins are God awful, and the Wizards are well, the Wizards, I mean even Michael Jordan couldn't make them good. In hockey, the Washington Capitals have never taken home a Stanley Cup. This looks like it could be their year, but they have to prove that they won't choke in the playoffs.

The Nationals are actually a good team, and I respect that in the sports world of D.C., but are one of two teams who have never played in the World Series.

10 10. Cincinnati, Ohio

The City of Cincinnati hasn't won a championship in 25 years and counting. The two teams home to Cincy are the Bengals and the Reds. As the city struggles with loss after loss, or average season after average season, the fans must be patient. Can you imagine living in Ohio?

I can't.

The only good thing about Ohio, is Ohio State, and that's a university, not professional sports. And chili, who doesn't like some good beef chili from good ol' Ohio? I miss Chad Ochocinco, at least he brought a little life to the city.

9 9. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Subtract 2008 from the Philadelphia Phillies, and you have a city that hasn't won a title since 1983 (the 76ers brought that one home). In fact the Eagles have never even won a Super Bowl, remaining the only team in the NFC East to not capture that elusive ring. Philly fans probably bring this misery upon themselves, as they talk so much trash, this may be karma's way of punishing them for eternity.

Recently, Flyers fans threw their Ed Snider tribute bracelets on the ice during a playoff game against the Capitals. That's not exactly a great way to pay tribute to a man who brought them the team they're cheering on.

8 8. New York City, New York (Jets/Mets/Islanders)

I know what you are thinking... NEW YORK... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Well no, if you have met anyone from New York, you will know that there are Yankees fans and Mets fans. The same goes for the Giants and Jets, as well as the Islanders and Rangers. You can usually tell the difference by the colors, with the winning teams featuring mostly blue. Honestly could you imagine having never won a title and having to share the same city as someone who has one a ton; especially when they are Yankee fans? Yuck.

7 7. Nashville, Tennessee

Neither of the two teams in this city have ever won a championship, of course referring to the Tennessee Titans and the Nashville Predators. The city known for arts and music hasn't had much success in sports. Though the Predators are a solid hockey team, they haven't won a Stanley Cup, despite making the playoffs in nine of the last 12 seasons.

The Titans have been outright miserable since the Steve McNair/Eddie George era of the early 2000s. They haven't made the playoffs since the 2008 season and their recent trade of their no.1 pick is as exciting as things have gotten for the franchise in a decade.

6 6. Milwaukee, Wisconsin

I hear Wisconsin is the most boring state in the United States, highlighted by their achievements in sports. In the past the Brewers were a great team led by Hank Aaron but recently, the Brewers have been in a pure drought. The Bucks on the other hand are and always have been a boring and crappy team. Okay, not crappy, but seriously boring. The Bucks have never been interesting to watch in my opinion, ever.

They have been pretty mediocre for a long time, and probably won't get better. The fan base isn't awful, but I'm sure being a fan here is difficult. I couldn't imagine it being fun watching your teams lose.

The one successful team Milwaukee does cheer on, plays two hours north in Green Bay.

5 5. Charlotte, North Carolina

Not one professional championship in Charlotte ever. I am a Panthers fan, and this sucks to write about. Carolina lost to the Broncos this past year in the Super Bowl, just in case you lived under a rock. They had an amazing season but just choked in the final game. The Charlotte Hornets have also never won a NBA Championship, and was so bad the team was moved to New Orleans. The city got another franchise in the form of the Bobcats, but to stir more interest, returned to the Hornets name once New Orleans renamed themselves the Pelicans.

Charlotte is a fun city, and being a fan there is interesting considering the Panthers' new found success. Until they win a championship, this city will remain at #5 on this list.

4 4. Jacksonville, Florida

The Jags play in their stadium on football Sunday, like every other team. Only difference?Their seats are basically empty due to their crappy play, season after season. The Jaguars are the only pro team in this beautiful city, and they make an awful impression. Fans are constantly shamed into not going to games.

This city is in a total drought, and maybe even a relocation out of Florida would do the organization some good.

3 3. Cleveland, Ohio

The last championship in this city was 51 years ago. Maybe this will change with LeBron James back in town, but the Warriors appear to have the upper hand on the Cavs at this point. The Browns look awful as usual, and the Cleveland Indians are an average team at best. More importantly, being a fan here cannot be fun. I mean yeah, LeBron is awesome too watch, but it's a little market, and if LeBron leaves, their economy literally crashes.

The Cavs hope to end the brutish drought for this city, but the fact that two cities in Ohio are on this list is saddening. Both cities are in tough phases right now.

2 2. San Diego, California

The longest sports drought of all time belongs to this sunny city, San Diego, where Ron Burgundy lives. The Chargers fail year after year, and cannot culminate a real successful season, as playoff appearances do not equal Super Bowl championships. The Chargers were close to moving cities this season, and still may in the near future. In baseball, the Padres have never won a World Series, with their last run at the title being nearly 20 years ago.

It's gotta be tough being a San Diego sports fan, but they have nice beaches and women, so we can't feel too much remorse.

1 1. Buffalo, New York

Buffalo is by far the unluckiest city relating to sports ever.

Why?

They fail miserably to win in big games, time after time. Remember Scott Norwood? The Bills didn't just lose one Super Bowl, they lost four in a row. The Buffalo Braves even moved out of Buffalo, despite being a solid basketball team in the 70s. The Buffalo Sabres have only appeared in two Stanley Cup Finals, with the most recent being in the 1999.

The city of Buffalo aches, and is pained with a tough history. But as the difficulty, and struggle goes on, it unites Buffalo fans. Hey at least that is a positive...right?
