The word “ridiculous” can have different meanings, particularly when discussing celebrities such as professional athletes. In some instances, a superstar player who makes millions upon millions of dollars a year is said to have skills that are ridiculous. Other athletes are deemed to be ridiculous because of things that they have said during press conferences and via social media websites such as Twitter and Instagram in the past. Other athletes are deemed by reporters, analysts and fans to be ridiculous because of how they spend money or because of who they spend time with when they are not working.

However the word applies per the athlete who is showcased in this piece, there is no question that there is a definite market out there for reality television shows that feature members of the sports world as stars of those programs. Former National Football League wide receivers Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson/Ochocinco were both awarded with reality shows in the past. Hard Knocks is a reality show that revolves around a different NFL team each summer as that club prepares for preseason games and an upcoming regular season.

The reasons for why sports fans and also other members of society would happily welcome athletes being given reality shows are many. Athletes are recognized when they go out for nights on the town, they have plenty of money to spend on all kinds of entertaining adventures, and they also have famous friends who could make guest appearances on such programs. It is no coincidence that some who are considered to be the best athletes in their sports would make for fascinating subjects of reality shows. After all, we would not care all that much about those individuals if they were not so good as what they do.

20 Ronda Rousey

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The life of Ronday Rousey has probably become ridiculous to even her over the past couple of years. An unknown mixed martial arts specialist as recently as 2012, Rousey has become a Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar who has received roles in multiple movies and who is arguably the face of that company and of MMA. There is already a movie on her life in the works, so a reality show would be the next step. The beautiful and ultra-talented Rousey has probably gotten used to cameras following her wherever she goes, and any reality show about her would likely do well in the ratings.

19 J.R. Smith

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Odds are that even casual National Basketball Association fans know at least some background information about how J.R. Smith has allegedly conducted himself off of the court during seasons. It was, in fact, speculated that one of the reasons that Smith linked up with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second half of the 2014-15 NBA campaign was because Smith would not be able to spend weeknights inside of clubs. Imagine the unintentional comedy that would come with having to watch Smith try to entertain himself in downtown Cleveland on a random Tuesday night. Re-sign with the Cavs, J.R., and give fans this show.

18 Stephen Ireland

via caughtoffside.com

The midfielder who currently plays for Premier League side Stoke City was linked with a move to Major League Soccer several years ago. Boy, did MLS drop the ball in not signing up the eccentric player when that chance arose. Look up some of the ways that Stephen Ireland has spent his money on in the past, and you will find: A ridiculous fish tank, multiple vehicles that cost more than some homes, and a pool table with his name on it. A reality show would put even more money in the bank account of Ireland, and that would mean even more cash for him to spend.

17 Alex Ovechkin

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Open up a Web browser, make the journey to the search engine of your preference, and search for “Alex Ovechkin” and “party.” You will locate all of the reasons for why Ovechkin should have a reality show that you could need. Along with sharing some celebratory drinks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ovechkin was allegedly inebriated at the 2015 National Hockey League All-Star Fantasy Draft. He is one of the faces of the NHL, he is a talent who is in the prime of his career, and Ovechkin is a personality who would entertain even non-fans during a reality show.

16 Richie Incognito

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

The offensive lineman who currently features for the Buffalo Bills was accused of doing some downright terrible things to a teammate while he was with the Miami Dolphins. Richie Incognito has also been known to enjoy partying with females who may or may not have received money and free drinks for their time. Incognito is now attempting to resurrect his NFL career with one of the rivals of the Dolphins and the eyes of reporters and fans are going to be on him. When life is one big reality show anyway, somebody such as Incognito should just jump in the deep end and get wet.

15 Brent Burns

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The name of the NHL defenseman may not, on its own, ring a bell for those of you who do not follow hockey outside of when the Stanley Cup Playoffs are on prime time television. All you really need to know about Brent Burns is that he has what has been referred to as a “zoo” of animals. While Burns had to leave some of his snakes behind after he joined up with the San Jose Sharks several years ago, that has not stopped him from pursuing other animals such as giraffes and even a tiger. Give this man all of the animals, somebody, and let the fun begin.

14 Brian Wilson

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Former San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brian Wilson is friends with controversial actor Charlie Sheen. What more could you possibly want to know about why Wilson should have a reality show? Some may believe that Wilson, largely known for his long and thick beard and also for his personality, may never again pitch in the Major Leagues. Remember, everybody, that Wilson is just 33-years old. A comeback story is the type of subject that makes for great reality. The same can be said about Wilson having a catch with Sheen while the two discuss political matters.

13 Brett Favre

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Producers, writers and camera crews should have begun making their way to the home of Brett Favre the second that the to-be Hall-of-Fame quarterback said in the summer of 2015 that he could probably still spin it in the NFL on Sundays. The ridiculous way that Favre retired, came back, retired, came back and then retired for good made him an enemy in the eyes of some football fans. That does not eliminate the fact that Favre getting into shape and tossing a football with some high school kids would draw the eyes of fans even if he ultimately chose to not attempt one final comeback.

12 Mario Balotelli

Don Wright-USA TODAY Sports

The life of Mario Balotelli is essentially already a reality show due to the paparazzi that follow him whenever he dines with an attractive model or an ex-/current girlfriend. The guy should be compensated for his time and his troubles. Balotelli has happily displayed the water fountain at his home that features his initials and his number (45). He has gotten himself in hot water due to failing to safely handle fireworks. The striker is also only 24-years old, meaning that he has likely only begun to get himself in ridiculous and potentially-dangerous situations.

11 John Daly

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

If only the height of John Daly's professional golfing career would have occurred at a time when reality shows were the next big thing of television. Daly may not be the golfer or person of old, but just the ridiculous stories that the man could tell about his life would provide at least two-to-three solid seasons of a program. Drinking. Smoking. Gambling. More Gambling. MORE gambling. Divorces. That awesome country music record. Daly is a sports treasure and a personality who was, in different aspects of entertainment, well ahead of his time.

10 Patrick Kane

Jon Durr-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps the best description for Patrick Kane that one could find out there is that he is just a “bro.” Kane is unquestionably one of the best overall players in the NHL. He is also known to enjoy himself out on the town when he is not on the ice. Sure, there was that ugly incident involving a cab driver all those years ago. Anybody can get into a misunderstanding every now and again, and Kane has since kept his nose relatively clean in the eyes of the law... up until this week. The only thing that would sink a potential reality show in this instance is if the wilder sides of Kane has been tamed.

9 Nick and Nate Diaz

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Those who are in the pro wrestling world and also fans of that form of entertainment refer to what Nick and Nate Diaz do with their personal lives as “living the gimmick” in that they are going to do whatever they want to do regardless of what organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship want to see from the fighters. Fight fans have, on multiple occasions, become annoyed that both Nick and Nate have done things that have prevented them from being eligible to enter the cage. It is that ridiculous nature they share that make them potential reality show stars.

8 Kris Humphries

via BigStockPhoto

Just because we have already been down this road in the past does not mean that a repeat journey would not be even more entertaining. Kris Humphries has already shown that he is ridiculous enough to get involved with a reality show in which he was a background character behind Kim Kardashian. Why not have another go of it, this time with Humphries being the main character? He has the experience, he should still have a ton of money left in the bank, and Humphries has even shown an ability to have a laugh at himself.

7 Hope Solo

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It was not all that long ago that United States Women's National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo could have possibly been given a reality show for only positive reasons. Her marriage to football player and bad boy Jerramy Stevens, who allegedly assaulted Solo, set into motion a wild chain of events that included Solo being arrested and charged with assaulting her half-sister and her cousin. The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup may now be in the rear view mirror, but cameras following Solo around and covering her personal life and her preparations for the 2016 Summer Olympics would attract interest.

6 Zlatan Ibrahimovic

via BigStockPhoto

Remember when it was reported that a supposed live grenade had been found at the home of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic? The story barely registered a blip on the radar, in part because it was not all that ridiculous a notion that Ibra would have a live grenade somewhere on his property because, well, he's Ibra. A social media campaign that was birthed from the beautiful tallies that he has notched during games, “Dare to Zlatan” has, for fans of the front man, became a doctrine and a way of life. Cameras and reality shows were made for characters such as Ibrahimovic.

5 Ric Flair/Hulk Hogan

via thebiglead.com

It does not matter that the “Nature Boy” is no longer styling and profiling as he used to do in the 1980s, 1990s and even parts of the 2000s. It doesn't matter that the "Hulkster" hasn't performed in the ring for ages. The perception remains that Ric Flair is still the Ric Flair of old as much as he can be at his age when out on the town, while Hogan has been in the new for all the wrong reasons recently. Is it possible, maybe even likely, that a reality show revolving around Flair and Hogan in 2015 would be more sad than fun? Maybe, but that is a chance that fans from all over the world would be willing to take to see them in all of their ridiculousness.

4 Rob Gronkowski

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots tight end is one of several athletes mentioned in this piece who are ridiculous because they are just damn fun to follow. Rob Gronkowski puts in the necessary work in practice sessions and on NFL Sundays, but he also lives his life to the fullest when he has some off time. Whether he is partying it up with adult film stars or having his favorite adult beverage and getting down inside of a club, the life of Gronk and a reality show would make for a tremendous pairing. Somebody get on this idea as soon as possible.

3 Floyd Mayweather

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has become a polarizing figure in society because of the domestic violence incidents that have gotten him mentioned in headlines and on shows such as SportsCenter. Mayweather is a free man, a world champion, he routinely spends money like it is going out of style, he flaunts his wealth and his many purchases on social media websites, he hangs with celebrities such as Justin Bieber, and he bets more money on sporting events than many who will read this sentence will make in years. Mayweather is seemingly an ideal reality show subject even if he is hated by many.

2 Alex Rodriguez

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Raise your hand if you would not be interested in watching a reality show about Alex Rodriguez. You can all lower your hands now, you liars. You've read about the stories of A-Rod having portraits dedicated to his favorite subject; himself. You have heard him deny any wrongdoing as it pertains to using performance-enhancing drugs. Detractors and even some fans of the New York Yankees can't stand him, while others have embraced that Rodriguez is playing well in the 2015 regular season. Much of the public has been following A-Rod's life from afar throughout his career. We would do so while watching him on television.

1 Cristiano Ronaldo

via BigSTockPhoto

What seems to be an endless amount of money that trickles in on a yearly basis. A lovely home in one of the most-beautiful countries on the planet. Supermodel girlfriends who are dumped in favor of other supermodel girlfriends. Model good looks, the types of vacations fans can only dream of taking, and the kind of talent that makes for a once-in-a-generation talent. Everything about the personal and professional lives had by Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo would make for an appealing reality show. Maybe Ronaldo could even be convinced to be filmed going out in public in disguise as he has done in the past.
