The ATP Tour might not appeal to those seeking the most glamorous of lifestyles, but take one look at the wives and girlfriends of elite tennis players and you’ll think twice.
Whether it’s Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray or Rafael Nadal, traveling every corner of the globe to hit a tennis ball for a living comes with its advantages.
During the lulls in Grand Slam tournaments, the paparazzi love nothing more than to glimpse towards the VIP section of the arena to speculate who is dating who on the tour.
Any sport is spiced up by its sex appeal, and tennis ticks that box on and off the court.
But don’t be fooled, these stunningly beautiful women are savvy about their image they portray to the public and know how to flaunt it. A cartel of models, actresses, film and television stars will light up the grandstands in Flushing Meadows come September.
Tennis WAGs have had their moments in the spotlight. Who could forget the big serving Russian star Marat Safin inviting an entourage of four models to cheer him on during the 2002 Australian Open?
If Sam Querrey’s appearance on this year’s run of Millionaire Matchmaker is a guide, pro tennis players aren’t shy to play the field. The only hard part is keeping up on the latest gossip.
Every now and again the WAGs will easily outshine their male partners. Take Grigor Dimitrov, an up and coming player and tour who has hooked up with Grand Slam champion and female cover girl Maria Sharapova no less!
While the tennis aficionados calculate the odds of Federer returning to the glory days of old and Nadal’s chances of staging a brilliant comeback from injury, here at The Sportster we’ll take you through the Top 20 Sexiest Tennis WAGs prior to the 2015 US Open.
20. Danielle Knudson
Small in stature, but not in the beauty stakes. Danielle Knudson gives her hubby Milos Raonic a 6-inch head start with the couple dating for over a year. The 5-foot-9 blonde bombshell appears under the Sutherland Models label, spending most of her professional life strutting down the runway for various designers. She burst onto the scene when Justin Bieber posted a photo of her Guess Model cover shoot via Instagram. Knudson’s other half also happens to be hot property. 24-year-old Raonic stands at 10 on the current ATP rankings, with semifinal runs at the Australian Open and Wimbledon to boot.
19. Madison McKinley
World Number 13 John Isner has outdone himself off the court, partnering up with the gorgeous Madison McKinley. The 6-foot-10 serve-volley American is the locals’ best hope in the men’s single this Autumn, but if he falls short of expectations he shouldn’t be too disappointed. McKinley is no bandwagon fan, as the two have been spotted together for the majority of his pro life. The 31-year-old is a jewelry designer by trade and has seen Isner rack up nine titles to date.
18. Flavia Pennetta
Not all WAGs sit passively on the sidelines watching with baited breath; some of them get out there and show them how it’s done! Take Flavia Pennetta, the 33-year-old Italian who has formed quite the doubles act with compatriot Fabio Fognini. The pair set tongues wagging when they posted a loving picture of themselves through Twitter. Speaking with the Italian press, Pennetta said their long friendship took a romantic twist during a training session in Barcelona. Pennetta is not only the superior cook of the two, but at 26th in the world she beats out Fognini who sits at a more modest 32.
17. Lena Alberti
To many observers German player Philipp Kohlschreiber hasn’t pulled up any tress during his tennis career, but then you haven’t taken into account his longtime partner Lena Alberti. The 29th ranked Kohlschreiber has been on the circuit for over a decade striving to stay with the elite, but his life changed a couple of years ago when he moved to Munich before meeting Alberti via a mutual friend. The German’s appetite for success is yet to wane since the couple hooked up, so some might consider Alberti a good luck charm, and quite the good looking charm at that!
16. Stephanie Tuccitto
Young Belgian prodigy David Goffin is on the rise in the tennis world and the beautiful brunette Stephanie Tuccitto might accept some credit for his form. Goffin recently took a set off world number 1 Novak Djokovic at the Western & Southern Open’s 3rd round in preparation for the Open, with the baby-faced assassin coming to prominence with a 4th round defeat to eventual champion Roger Federer at the 2012 French Open. Tuccitto appears to have hung up the racket herself, last fronting up at the junior tour events in Goffin’s native Belgium in 2008.
15. Charlotte Deon
Who can resist the Hollywood charm and striking looks of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga? Certainly not Charlotte Deon. The former Australian Open finalist has a huge amount of local support at the French Open, but it’s away at venues like Flushing Meadows where he’ll rely on the love and backing of partner Deon and mother-in-law Evelyne to cheer him over the line. Tsonga’s ranking has slipped to 19 and although the pair were rumored to have split because of Deon’s non-showing at Wimbledon, the enigmatic French star quashed the talk while keeping the couples relationship away from media attention.
14. Alize Lim
Everyone loves a sexy star with a cheeky sense of humor. Meet Alize Lim, the better half of Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. Lim may only have a career-high ranking of 135 in the world, but is proud of her partner’s achievements in the game if nothing else. In 2013 Lim replied to a Maria Sharapova tweet during the French Open, “Yesterday, had no clue who Paire was, today Chardy?” Without hesitating, Lim captured a screenshot of Chardy’s ranking above Sharapova’s hubby Dimitriov, saying bluntly, “and yet looks like you should…” Well played Alize.
13. Marta Tornel
A lot of WAGs have to wait their time before their partner gets on a hot-streak, or hopes they catch the attention of a regular on the tour who plays consistently well. This is very much the case for Marta Tornel, whose other half David Ferrer is one of the most respected male tennis stars on the planet. The pair met through the wife of Ferrer’s coach Javier Piles, who happened to already be close friends with Marta. The Spanish brunette won’t attract the glitz and glamour like other personalities, but like Ferrer she will be there rain, hail or shine.
12. Donna Vekic
Without doubt the most topical female tennis personality at the moment is Donna Vekic, but not for anything she has done to draw attention to herself. The 19-year-old blonde Croatian and partner of Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka came into the spotlight when Aussie bad boy Nick Kyrgios made a shockingly tasteless comment to Wawrinka during the Roger Cup in Montreal, saying, “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend.” Vekic didn’t let the slur slip, telling reporters “I think the way he behaves on court he has big problems.” With maturity beyond her years, Vekic has a bright future in front of her on and off the court with Wawrinka by her side and vice versa.
11. Kelsey O’Neal-Anderson
While it’s taken the tennis world a few years to get up to speed with the talents of South African Kevin Anderson, partner Kelsey jumped on board long before any other suitors had the opportunity. Now happily married, the couple tied the knot in Illinois where they first met during College. Sport clearly runs in Kelsey’s blood, with her father a PGA Master Pro at North Shore Country Club, although she proudly lists that she is a “full-time tour wife” on her Twitter bio. At 15 in the rankings, Anderson will give himself a fighter’s chance in New York.
10. Masha Fokina
If Alexandr Dolgopolov couldn’t play tennis, there is no other scenario whereby he could date women this stunning. The man they call “Dolgo” for short moved on from ex-girlfriend Victoria Szasz to hook up with the equally-beautiful Masha Fokina. Both of these two might be non-entities in the USA, but they are virtually Ukrainian royalty where they come from. Dolgopolov is the son of former tennis pro and gymnast Oleksandr while Fokina’s grandfather happens to be former Prime Minister Witold Fokin. Following “Dolgo” is one of her many passions, including an ability to take a sexy selfie.
9. Ester Satorova
#Repost @zuhairmuradofficial with @repostapp. ・・・ Tennis ace #TomášBerdych and his fiancée @esterberdychsatorova said "I do" a few weeks ago at #LeMéridien Beach Plaza in #MonteCarlo. All eyes were on the Czech beauty where she flaunted her statuesque figure in a sheer floral #zuhairmurad lace gown, which drew attention to her flawless legs and slender frame. Tennis WAGs who date the top end of town can afford to marry in style at Monaco. That’s exactly what Ester Satorova and Tomas Berdych did last month with over 700 guests in attendance. The slender Czech model sported a floral lace gown that flaunted her incredible figure. If Berdych could finally fulfill his potential and win a Grand Slam, then the world number 6 would have no complaints about life.
8. Josipa Dragun
These tennis players have absolutely no shame in approaching women they find desirable. Gael Monfils’ ranking has slipped since making the 2008 French Open semifinal, but not long after reaching those heights he ran into a hostess at the Croatia Open in Umag, Josipa Dragun. Although Monfils has a long list of failed relationships behind him, at the time of writing we do believe the Frenchman is dating the lovely brunette from South East Europe.
7. Alba Carrillo
Wedding bells have been in the air this summer. Taking a leaf from court compatriot Tomas Berdych, one of the best looking men in tennis Feliciano Lopez decided to take himself off the market and make an honest woman out of the beautiful Alba Carrillo. The couple tied the knot in Lopez’s hometown of Toledo, Spain where a host of local tennis celebrities were guests of honor including Fernando Verdasco and David Ferrer. Sitting at 19 in the world, Lopez won’t feel too disappointed if he misses out on another Grand Slam with the gorgeous blonde now by his side.
6. Kristina Milkovic
The story of Marin Cilic is arguably the most fascinating in modern tennis. The man from Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina rose to prominence during last year’s US Open where he came from nowhere at 100-1 odds to win the whole tournament! What’s even more remarkable is making that achievement on the back of a 4-month drug ban, completely turning around his fortune from cast off to champion. A lot of that credit he gives to his better half, girlfriend Kristina Milkovic. Her background in psychology helped the 6-foot-6 giant overcome his inner demons and conquer the tennis world. Now for the hard part, to go back-to-back.
5. Maria Francisca Perello
Recently the tennis world has not been kind to Rafael Nadal. Facing an injury crisis that threatens to cripple the bookend of his career, the love of support of partner Mari Francisca Perello would be invaluable at times like these. The thin brunette cannot be separated from her man under any circumstances. The paparazzi love these two, snapping them together at the beach, red carpet events, the grandstand after a match or just a walk in the park.
4. Bec Hewitt
To Australian tennis fans, Bec Hewitt needs no introduction. The loving partner of former world number 1 Lleyton Hewitt, Bec’s own rise to fame came when she played Hayley on the hit television show Home and Away in the early 2000s. Then performing as her original name Bec Cartwright, she ventured out into the world of pop and released an album in 2002, although it was critically slammed across the board. The 2001 US Open champion Lleyton has been granted a wildcard entry, but judging by his sharp decline in the rankings it will almost certainly be his last time to Flushing Meadows on the court.
3. Kim Sears
It’s official – Kim Sears is a magician. For a long time Andy Murray was a boorish Scotsman who had the personality of a wet blanket, but with the help of the stunning Kim Sears the British tennis superpower has come out of his shell and not taken himself too seriously as a result. While the tabloids are having a field day as rumors persist that the couple are expecting their first child, Sears is one of the brightest attractions on tour. Expect a lot of cutaways of the 27-year-old this tournament.
2. Jelena Djokovic
You know you have a keeper when your partner is not only drop dead gorgeous, but also has a heart of gold. Novak Djokovic’s wife Jelena is reportedly pursuing a PhD during her downtime as Executive Director of the Novak Djokovic Foundation and raising son Stefan. Taking all of this off the shoulders of Novak has allowed him to relentlessly push for excellence, accruing $80 million in prize money and eight Grand Slams to boot. With Jelena in the stands cheering him on, there is no stopping the Serbian superstar.
1. Jarah Mariano
You want a sexy tennis WAG? How about Fernando Verdasco’s outlandish beauty Jarah Mariano, a brunette dripping with sex appeal from head to toe. The 28-year-old of Hawaiian and Korean descent is a multicultural billboard for everything that is fashion, and she pulls it off every time. Mariano has headlined some of the biggest modeling labels of them all, including Sports Illustrated and Victoria Secret. Her representatives IMG picked her up at the tender age of 15, subsequently traveling the world before meeting a left-handed Spaniard who is handy with a racket. Verdasco tennis career is admirable, but his personal life is off the charts.
