I’m an unrepentant fan of women’s sports for more than one reason. The first of these is that sports are sports. There’s competition, skill and emotion, and if an event has these things, whether it is the Super Bowl or an event on the LPGA, it’s better than watching most of the rest of the troubling garbage that is on TV. My second reason is that female sporting events often see competitors that have different methods of play than their male counterparts. By this I mean that overall, the tactics of female teams and individual sports often progress differently than the men. Take the women’s divisions in the UFC. Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafson is a scrap I can watch over and over, but watching any one of Ronda Rousey’s matches, she fights a different game than any of the male champions. Looking to another example, while I do wish there was hitting in women’s hockey, it’s still hockey, and those lasses can still rifle a shot better than I can.
The third and final reason that I love women’s sports is a very superficial one, sue me. I’m a heterosexual male and many women who play professional sports are gorgeous. They are fit and take great care of themselves, and if that’s not enough, every now and again, a fight breaks out. Even if the match or game is a dud, that makes it all worth it. Here is a list of the 25 sexiest female athletes competing today. This is a subjective list, so I welcome you all to question my sanity, sexuality and sobriety in the comments section, while adding your own suggestions. Before anyone shouts “sexism” at this article, I would gladly write an article about the hottest male athletes, but as a heterosexual male, my judgment of such a topic would be subpar.
25 Alex Morgan: Soccer
One of the most accomplished American soccer players of all time, Alex Morgan starts our list off at number 25. She is the only American woman other than Mia Hamm to have scored 20 goals and 20 assists in one calendar year. Outside of soccer, Morgan has had tons of endorsement deals, from Chapstick to Bridgestone tires, has appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition (body paint), and is a published novelist, whose books are focused on young women’s soccer.
24 Tessa Virtue: Figure Skating
Canadian ice-dancing duo Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir achieved silver in Sochi and gold back in 2010 on home turf. The two have also won several World Cup medals and have won the Canadian Championship, except for 2011, every year since 2008. Virtue is a great looking gal and seeing as she’s only 25, it isn’t implausible that she may be around for the next Olympics.
23 Alyson Dudek: Speed Skating
This gorgeous Wisconsin girl has been on the US short track speed skating squad in the past two Olympics. She and the team won the 2010 bronze medal in the 3000 meter relay, but came up unsuccessful in 2014. If speed skating doesn't work out in the future, she can definitely fall back on being undeniably cute.
22 Maria Kirilenko: Tennis
In Soviet Russia, racquet swings you! All stupid jokes aside, Maria Kirilenko is a Russian tennis player who used to be top ten in the world, but has since dropped significantly after a knee injury. She was also engaged to Alexander Ovechkin, but they broke up recently. It probably had something to do with his plus/minus, but I doubt she recognizes that there are a lot of variables working against Ovie in terms of that stat.
21 Anna Sidorova: Curling
There was a great deal of attention paid to the great looking female curlers at the 2014 games in Sochi. Sidorova was one of the main reasons for this. The Russian women’s team did poorly in that tournament (finishing 9th) but there is no denying that Sidorova made up for this by looking fantastic.
20 Ashley Wagner: Figure Skating
One of the best looking ladies to medal at Sochi, Wagner took bronze in the team event. Yet again, a beautiful blonde from California stole not only a medal, but also our hearts. She is also known well for a meme that followed her performance, in which she received a bad score for a routine, and a picture was snapped of her making an outraged face.
19 Ana Ivanovic: Tennis
The former world number one comes in at number 19 on this list. She has won numerous titles and awards, and is currently ranked as #11 in the world. Apart from her accolades on the tennis court, she has appeared in multiple magazines across Europe, in Mexico and Australia. Finally, she was the UNICEF ambassador for Serbia back in 2007 and 2008. These are some amazing credentials on the resume of a 26-year-old.
18 Kim Glass: Volleyball
At 6’3, Kim glass is tall and has legs until next week. On the volleyball court, she is no slouch and apart from winning the silver in Beijing, she has won gold in a couple of smaller tournaments. She is one of the most successful college volleyball players of all time having played for the Arizona Wildcats. She tried out for America’s Next Top Model multiple times back in college. While being on this list may not be as prestigious as winning that show, at least she didn't have to get yelled at by Tyra Banks.
17 Alana Blanchard: Surfing
Surfing has to be one of the greatest activities out there. Between the ocean, sun and the beach, what else could one ask for? Women who are as beautiful as Alana Blanchard are one reason that surfing is…just, so great. Blonde with great eyes and a perfect body, is a flawless resume in our books. Along with those attributes and her obvious athleticism, she’s kind of a hero. She and her family were instrumental in rescuing Bethany Hamilton after her infamous shark attack.
16 Sydney Leroux: Soccer
Another great looking member of the US women’s national soccer team is the Canadian-born Sydney Leroux. This 24 year old beauty played for the UCLA Bruins and was a member of the United States’ under-20 women’s team until 2011. In 2011, she won the gold medal with the US national team.
15 Jamie Anderson: Snowboarding
Even if you aren't a fan of winter sports, snowboarding women are generally gorgeous, especially at the elite level. Jamie Anderson is no exception. She is one of the most successful in the sport, with four X-games gold medals and the gold medal for the slope-style event at Sochi earlier this year.
14 Blair O’Neal: Golf
The first of two golfers on this list, Blair O’Neal is gorgeous, talented and someone I wouldn’t mind helping me fix my slice. That’s not a euphemism, I have a terrible slicing problem with anything bigger than a 7-iron. O’Neal hasn’t had much success in terms of major wins in the LPGA, but has achieved much more success with her modelling work.
13 Mikaela Shiffrin: Skiing
This young lady absolutely had to be on this list. Not only is she one of the most successful young skiers in the sport today, she’s also extremely good looking. At just a couple of months past age 18, she managed to win the gold medal for the United States in slalom at Sochi. Between being one of the best skiers in the world today and having a stunning smile, it’s hard to say anything bad about this girl.
12 Michelle Waterson: MMA
Training out of New Mexico, Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson is a professional mixed martial artist with a record of 11-3. While her most significant training time in her career has been spent on karate, she is also more than proficient at Muay Thai and Jujitsu. She is currently the Invicta FC Atomweight Champion. That’s right, Atomweight, which means under 105 lbs. She’s tiny, but don’t let that fool you, she could probably throw you through a concrete wall.
11 Jessica Gysin: Volleyball
Oh volleyball. If only I was taller, better looking and more athletic, I’d play volleyball too. But enough of that, Jessica Gysin is a 28-year-old beauty who has competed for the USC Trojans. After her time with USC, she turned professional and competes to this day. Apart from her volleyball schedule she is a successful model, and with good reason. It’s like there is a pattern here; gorgeous, blonde, tall, athletic women can be models.
10 Hope Solo: Soccer
The outspoken goalkeeper of the US national soccer team makes number ten on this list. On top of being threateningly good looking, she is a two-time gold medalist and has been competing professionally since 2003. For the NFL fans out there, she is married to former tight end Jerramy Stevens. For those who are fans of gossip, Solo was arrested in June 2014 for allegedly assaulting her sister and nephew. I thought I was the only one who got violent when the FIFA World Cup came on.
9 Natalie Gulbis: Golf
This choice was pretty much a no-brainer. Natalie Gulbis has been competing professionally since 2001. She has achieved some success in golf, winning four tournaments, but she is more noted for being gorgeous than her putting ability. She has posed for many magazines, (most notably the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, wearing body paint) and produced her own calendar back in 2005. The calendar was banned from being sold at events by the United States Golf Association.
8 Gracie Gold: Figure Skating
By far the cutest American figure skater on this list, Gracie Gold won bronze at the Sochi Olympics earlier this year. She also won the gold at the United States Championship this year and the silver in last year’s event.
7 Lindsey Vonn: Skiing
Tiger Woods’ current lady comes in at number seven on this list. Actually it’s hard to figure out whether the two are dating, engaged or broken up, as everyone who wants to make a dollar wants to smear Tiger as much as possible, poor guy. Aside from her choice in men, she has earned multiple World Championship medals and took gold and bronze in Vancouver back in 2010. She missed the Sochi games due to injury.
6 Justine Dufour-Lapointe: Skiing
Oh Canada indeed. This gorgeous French-Canadian girl took the gold in moguls during the 2014 games. Among her competition were her two sisters who, though also attractive, do not quite make the list. Blonde, with gorgeous blue eyes and an obvious ability to use here hips, what more are you looking for? Actually, there might be a language barrier, so brush up on your French, but get more creative than “voulez-vous couches avec moi.” It’s overused.
5 Kiira Korpi: Figure Skating
This absolutely stunning Finnish figure skater is just so unbelievably good looking that I’m not even sure where to start. She’s achieved significant success in smaller contests, but has not placed higher than 9th at the World Championships or Olympic games. That really doesn’t matter, however, because this article is about beauty and Korpi has that in spades.
4 Ronda Rousey: MMA
Ronda Rousey has the highest beauty-to-brutality ratio of anybody on this list. She is a talented mixed martial artist who can finish opponents on the ground, as she did for all of her early fights, or with knockout power which she has used more recently. Beyond that, she is possibly the most aggressive and competitive female athlete since Tonya Harding. The main difference being, Harding conspired to have her competition beaten, Ronda just waits until the octagon and takes care of it herself. It’s anyone’s best guess when Ronda Rousey will finally be beaten.
3 Maria Sharapova: Tennis
The further we get into this list, the more we see women who have absolutely everything going for them. Maria Sharapova is not only beautiful, but is also the second highest earning female tennis player of all time, only behind Serena Williams. To date she has earned just over $30 million. At age 27, don’t be surprised if she is around for quite a few more before she puts away the racquet.
2 Anna Fenninger: Skiing
Sochi’s Super G gold medallist and Giant Slalom silver medallist Anna Fenninger is number two on this list. She has been competing for eight years now and after Sochi, has been ranked number one overall. Apart from her athletic career she is involved with a couple of conservation organisations focussing on the benefit of the world’s cheetah population.
1 Silje Norendal: Snowboarding
The sexiest female athlete on this list and, indeed, in the world is the 2014 Winter X-games Slopestyle winner, the Norwegian 20-year-old Goddess, Silje Norendal. She ended up 11th back in Sochi for the event, but with a smile like that, along with a great body and flowing blonde hair, who cares where she placed? 11th in the finals but number one in our hearts and on this list.
