They're on, then they're off. They're apparently back on again and then we're told that's not true. The story that is John Cena and Nikki Bella being a couple or being single has become quite the circus and it's hard to know what to believe.

Both said they were taking a break which resulted in Cena and Bella making public statements about how sad they both are but then Bella was rumored to be staying at their new home while Cena was pouring his heart out on the Today Show, saying he wants her back, wants a family and kids with her and that he's struggling to live life without her. All of it was timed to lead perfectly into their show Total Bellas, which unfortunately didn't see a ratings spike because of the soap opera-like drama.

All of this has gotten people wondering, what if this is all a work? A "work" in wrestling is a storyline meant to appear real but isn't. It's the show WWE puts on. It's the written drama that the actors play. Could this be one of those situations? If so, what does that mean?

Cena Is Great Actor

John Cena is transitioning from a WWE career to a Hollywood one and he's doing quite well for himself, landing big role after big role, the latest being the lead in Dwayne Johnson's new project The Janson Directive. But, to date, he's not been given a ton of credit for his acting chops.

Known as a great mic worker in WWE and owning a surprisingly strong sense of humor, if this is all fake, this might be Cena's best work yet. He was convincing on the Today Show pouring his heart out to Nikki, he seems legitimately heartbroken and he's doing a much better job than Nikki Bella who seems almost frustrated by the entire ordeal.

If Cena is putting on a show, he should be up for an award and fans can rest assured, his acting career will be a huge success.

Nikki Bella Is All About Ratings

It's a given that Cena understands promotion and is happy to help get ratings for Total Bellas by being a part of the show and going along with this rouse in an effort to get ratings. But Nikki Bella seems to be milking this attention a bit and that could be out of a desire to have her show's ratings increase and take some of the attention from Cena's budding acting career.

This is not to suggest Nikki is a bad person but if this is fake, for years she wanted nothing but Cena to want to be married, want to have kids and want to show his commitment. After he does, she leaves saying she's worried this will all be too much. It sounds like something staged and perhaps it sounds like it could be her idea. She's constantly defending this story being true and often times, the people who constantly defend have something to hide.

It Didn't Work

Again, if this is all true, it didn't work. The season debut of Total Bellas did not see a huge spike in ratings, even after all the press that came out of the break-up news. This means that either people don't care or saw enough of what they needed to see, thus they didn't tune in.

That's not a good sign. This is an episode that was going to show the entire break-up on camera. It should have meant bigger numbers. Since it didn't, everyone will need to go back to the drawing board or you'll notice how quickly the couple gives up on the charade.

WWE Is In On This

This all seemed like something that was happening independently of WWE. Cena and Nikk's personal life ending isn't good for the company because it greatly affects the show Total Bellas if Cena isn't on it. WWE wouldn't have wanted this.

So, if this is all a work, WWE might have a major say in what's going on here. That it was all filmed, that WWE is talking about it and that the Bellas might be working towards an in-ring comeback makes all of this logical. Perhaps this was a way to give the couple more time to plan their wedding? Perhaps WWE wants things to slow down for Cena and he's around more often before going full-steam ahead. There could be lots of reasons WWE wanted to slow this wedding down a touch.
