William Regal has posted an x-ray of his neck for all to see on Twitter in hope that it will act as a warning to those wrestling today.

Want to insult a professional wrestling fan? Ask any of us that one, very annoying question we have been asked countless times during our fandom. "You know it's fake, right?" Firstly, wrestling is not fake. It is staged, pre-determined, whatever you want to call it and yes, to answer your question, we are very aware of that.

The only people who are more offended than fans when wrestling is accused of being fake are the wrestlers themselves. The men and women of WWE, New Japan, Ring Of Honor, Impact, and countless other promotions travel the world, putting their bodies through hell almost every night. The retired competitors who can hardly walk today or the ones still competing having surgeries on their necks and knees would likely argue with anyone referring to their profession as fake.

Take William Regal, for example. While the NXT commissioner doesn't compete in the ring any longer, he did so for 30 years. Regal recently posted a photo of an x-ray that shows the damage three decades in the ring did to his neck. You can check it out for yourselves below.

As you can see, there is an awful lot of hardware in the legendary Brit's neck. According to Regal, what you're looking at above is four fused disks. He explained to the wrestlers of today that he went through all of that despite training his neck correctly every single day. The commissioner signed off with a warning, "It WILL happen if you keep this up and you don’t want to go through it!"

There is no question that today's style of wrestling has changed dramatically since Regal was at his peak. Today's competitors are performing even crazier moves and often pushing the envelope as often as they possibly can. Since Regal works with a lot of that young talent, it's likely that those are the ones his x-ray tweet is directly aimed at. Even if you avoid serious injuries for your whole career, by the end of it, you will have still done a fair bit of damage to your body.
