The WWE Championship bout between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34 didn't disappoint, with the Phenomenal One ultimately holding on to retain his title.

This back-and-forth bout saw the reigning WWE Champion hit Nakamura with a Styles Clash, picking up the pinfall victory. The two men embraced after the match, with Nakamura willingly presenting him the championship while kneeling down for Styles.

But Nakamura shocked the WWE Universe by delivering a low blow to Styles, then proceeded to brutally attack the champion - turning heel while receiving noisy boos from the stunned crowd in New Orleans.

Nakamura was the ultimate babyface during his time in NXT and received some of the loudest cheers ever since he was called up to the SmackDown Live roster last week. However, WWE opted to take a major risk and turned the long-time fan favorite into a heel, and we should learn more from wrestling insiders over the next couple of days.

This is easily one of the most shocking moments in recent WrestleMania history. For one, it was somewhat surprising to see Nakamura lose - considering most Royal Rumble winners go on to win the championship match on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Both Styles and Nakamura portrayed babyface characters, but it makes sense to maintain their rivalry - considering both are among the most decorated all-around performers in the WWE.

One of them ultimately had to turn bad guy, and WWE chose to roll with Nakamura. He'll certainly get more opportunities to win the WWE Championship, and we'll look forward to seeing how this rivalry continues to unfold.
