"Overrated" and "over-pushed" are perhaps two terms that Roman Reigns' haters often use, as Reigns is one of the winning-est wrestlers of his generation. As a babyface, Roman won many matches and held several titles, and now as a heel, The Tribal Chief is more dominant than he has ever been.

On PPV, Roman Reigns has won 37 singles matches, while only losing 16 matches, and as if that wasn't impressive enough, those losses came against only 10 men. So, without further ado, let's take a look at every wrestler who defeated Roman Reigns in a singles PPV match.

UPDATE: 2023/03/08 7:30 EST BY ANDREW KELLY

Roman Reigns is one of the most dominant wrestlers in WWE, and he has truly cemented himself as one of the greatest champions of all time due to his 900-day plus reign as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He has defeated all oncomers, not getting pinned for well over three years. When looking at Reigns and singles matches, he is someone who hasn’t lost too often on PPV, with it being quite a big deal for him to suffer from a defeat. In fact, the number of those who have defeated him is short enough to make a list out of it. It is interesting to not only look at who defeated him, but at what event and how the loss went down, in addition to other matches he had against those specific competitors too, as Reigns often got his wins back.

10 Bray Wyatt

Bray Wyatt vs Roman Reigns

At Battleground 2015, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt delivered a very good match, with good storytelling and good character work from both characters. The fans were invested in the match from start to finish, and the bout never felt boring, even though the pace was a bit slow for 22 minutes.

Both wrestlers looked strong, but in the end, it was Bray Wyatt who took the win. However, Roman Reigns won the rematch at Hell In A Cell 2015, which was an even better match.

As noted, this was a decent back and forth match between Wyatt and Reigns, but as often is the case with Wyatt’s big victories and Reigns’ big losses, this wasn’t a clean result. Luke Harper surprisingly appeared during this match, realigning with Wyatt for the first time since 2014 when the Wyatt Family went their separate ways. Harper nailed Reigns with a superkick, leading to a Wyatt victory. However, after a few tag team back and forths at SummerSlam and Night of Champions, Reigns ended the feud when he defeated Wyatt inside of a Hell in a Cell match.

9 Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley vs Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley have only faced each other once in singles competition on PPV, at Extreme Rules 2018. It was a good match, though nothing memorable. These two powerhouse wrestlers worked slowly, but executed some good spots.

Fans thought this would be another win for The Big Dog, but it was Bobby Lashley who won cleanly, which was unexpected. It would be amazing to see Bobby Lashley face Roman Reigns again, now that they are both two of the biggest superstars in the world.

Initially, it seemed as though this would be the match that propelled Lashley up the card for a dream match against Brock Lesnar. However, this win proved to be quite pointless as Reigns would win a rematch which took place on Monday Night Raw, this time with a shot at the Universal Championship on the line for SummerSlam 2018. Even though Lashley won clean, it didn’t mean much in the long run.

8 Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon Vs Roman Reigns

Super ShowDown 2019 was one of the worst PPVs in WWE history, and Roman Reigns and Shane McMahon contributed to that embarrassing cause. They went one on one, well, Drew McIntyre was at ringside and ended up being a determining factor in the match by hitting a Claymore on Reigns.

Either way, this match was terrible, absolutely boring, and Shane McMahon pinning Roman Reigns was shocking and one of the worst booking decisions WWE made that year.

As per most of Reigns’ losses, he was on the receiving end of the numbers game in this match, as an interfering Drew McIntyre ensured that he lost the match. Reigns and McIntyre had wrestled several times throughout the year, but Reigns came out on top every time. However, when it came to McMahon, he had Reigns’ number. Reigns did manage to get one back over McMahon, as he teamed up with The Undertaker at Extreme Rules to defeat McMahon and McIntyre.

7 Erick Rowan

Erick Rowan vs Roman Reigns

Believe it or not, Erick Rowan managed to defeat Roman Reigns in a singles PPV match. They faced each other only once, at Clash Of Champions 2019, it was a No Disqualification match.

Obviously, Erick Rowan didn't win cleanly, as Luke Harper showed up to give him a hand, still, Rowan dominated most of the match, while Reigns made some good comebacks. Overall, it was a good brawl, quite violent, with an unexpected ending.

Luke Harper seemed to be a recurring thorn in the side of Reigns, as his interference once again saw him suffer a defeat. Reigns was outnumbered and overpowered, making it hard for him to win. However, as usual, Reigns managed to get a win back. At the following PPV, Reigns teamed up with Daniel Bryan to defeat Rowan and Harper, putting an end to the feud.

6 King Corbin

King Corbin v Roman Reigns TLC 2019 Cropped

King Corbin was the last wrestler who managed to cover Roman Reigns, and that was almost three years ago, at Tables, Ladders And Chairs 2019. It was a TLC match, although unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations and ended up being a mediocre match.

Roman Reigns had to deal with Corbin, Dolph Ziggler and The Revival, no matter how hard Roman tried, in the end he couldn't beat the odds. The bout ended when everyone performed their signature moves on Reigns, ending with Corbin's End of Days into a steel chair.

This match had an obscene amount of interference. In fact, it was hard to watch due to how many people were helping Corbin beat down Reigns. Corbin may make constant reference to this win on WWE TV, but it wasn’t something to brag about, especially since Reigns beat him the following month in a Last Man Standing match at the Royal Rumble PPV.

5 Sheamus

Sheamus and Roman Reigns faced each other in two singles matches, and Sheamus prevailed on both occasions. The first match was at Survivor Series 2015, when Sheamus cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to defeat Reigns in 34 seconds and win the World Heavyweight Championship, which Reigns had just won after defeating his former partner Dean Ambrose.

Then in the main event of TLC 2015, Sheamus successfully defended the title against Roman Reigns in a hard-hitting match that was a lot of fun to watch.

A beaten down and distracted Reigns fell to Sheamus at Survivor Series, and the interference from the League of Nations and Triple H ensured that Reigns had essentially no chance the following month at TLC, allowing Sheamus to pick up two victories over Reigns on PPV. His success was short-lived though, as Reigns defeated Sheamus on Raw to win the WWE World Title, even with the distraction of Vince McMahon.

4 Braun Strowman

Roman Reigns Braun Strowman Ambulance

Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman have faced each other four times in singles action on PPV. Their first meeting was at Fastlane 2017, where Roman Reigns emerged victorious, then they faced each other at Payback 2017, and that time Strowman was the winner.

At Great Balls Of Fire 2017, Reigns and Strowman clashed in an Ambulance match, in which Strowman prevailed again, and finally they faced each other at Hell In A Cell 2018, a match that ended in no contest due to Brock Lesnar annihilating them both.

Strowman is a rare case of somebody who has two clean PPV wins over Roman Reigns, the first coming after a dominant showcase at Payback. He got a little lucky in their Ambulance rematch, as Reigns essentially speared thin air and flew into the ambulance, but it was a clean-ish win nonetheless. Unfortunately for this second result, Reigns was the one who stood tall as Reigns attacked Strowman and crashed the ambulance with him inside after the match.

3 Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar F5s Roman Reigns

Speaking of Brock Lesnar, obviously he has also defeated Roman Reigns in a singles PPV match. The Tribal Chief won the last three matches, at SummerSlam 2018, Crown Jewel 2021 and WrestleMania 38, but the first two matches were won by the Beast Incarnate. First it was at WrestleMania 34, and then at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Lesnar’s victory at WrestleMania over Reigns was a brutal one, as he bloodied up Reigns and pretty much destroyed him in what was a slog of a match. Not long later, Reigns had the upper hand, and looked on his way winning their Steel Cage match at the Greatest Royal Rumble. Reigns speared Lesnar through the cage, but Lesnar managed to escape with the win due to his feet touching the floor first. Lesnar and Reigns would battle numerous times over the years, with Reigns gaining more wins in recent years, firmly going over Lesnar in 2023.

2 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens v Roman Reigns Royal Rumble 2017 Cropped

Kevin Owens has been one of Roman Reigns' best opponents, they have a lot of chemistry and have delivered four amazing PPV matches. At Roadblock: End Of The Line 2016, Kevin Owens defeated Roman Reigns by disqualification, then at Royal Rumble 2017, KO retained the Universal Title after an outstanding No Disqualification match, although that KO victory was thanks to Braun Strowman's interference.

Nearly four years later, Owens and Reigns delivered tremendous matches at TLC 2020, Royal Rumble 2021, and Royal Rumble 2023, and this time it was Reigns who retained the Universal Title.

Owens’ win at Roadblock was a farce, as he and Chris Jericho orchestrated a disqualification win, which was very cheap for a PPV main event. Reigns managed to overcome Jericho’s interference at the Royal Rumble, but he wasn’t able to overcome Braun Strowman’s appearance, as he laid out Reigns with a brutal assault, allowing Owens to win. Reigns didn’t actually get his payback in this feud at the time, and would have to wait several years to beat Owens in PPV one-on-one matches.

1 Seth Rollins

Roman Reigns v Seth Rollins Royal Rumble 2022 Cropped

Roman Reigns is winless on PPV against his former partner Seth Rollins, three matches, three wins for Rollins. They were scheduled to have a match at Night Of Champions 2014, but Roman Reigns could not compete due to a surgery, but Seth went to the ring anyway and the referee counted out Reigns.

Then at Money In The Bank 2016, they had an actual match, a superb match, in which Rollins defeated Reigns to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Their most recent match at Royal Rumble 2022, a terrific bout with brilliant character work from both competitors, and Rollins ended up winning by disqualification.

Rollins’ win in 2014 wasn’t really a “win” as such, and in 2022 it was Reigns who got himself disqualified, technically giving Rollins the victory. However, at Money in the Bank 2016, Rollins won clean as a whistle. This has allowed a thread to occur of Rolllins having Reigns’ number in big matches, though it must be stated that Reigns defeated Rollins on WWE’s weekly TV shows.
