Dwayne Johnson, more popularly known as The Rock, might just be the single biggest star produced by wrestling. The Rock was a mainstay in the discussion of the greatest wrestling star during his wrestling years but in 2021, thanks to the massive success he has achieved in Hollywood, Rocky is easily the most well-known professional wrestler on planet earth.

His electrifying stint in the WWE opened the doors to Hollywood and while professional wrestlers dabbled in movies before him, Johnson was the first pro wrestler to truly cross over, and currently, he is one of the highest-paid actors in the world.

At age 23, The Rock was financially destitute and in a haze of depression. But fast forward a few years later, The Rock was laying the 'smack down' on people and making millions, all the while he was swaggering around in some ridiculously expensive shades and shirts to the thunderous applause of the fans watching and hanging on to his every word.

Johnson’s story is truly a classic example of rags to riches and given how much people adore the guy, a television series chronicling his journey, from childhood to the present was certain to make a big splash. Enter, Young Rock.

Young Rock premiered in February of 2021 and ran for a total of 11 episodes on NBC, amassing millions of views and garnering positive reviews from critics and fans alike. The series was popular enough to warrant an additional season and while we wait for that; here is everything that you need to know about Young Rock.

What Is Young Rock About?

The basic premise of the series is as follows. The year is 2032 and The Rock is running for president of the United States of America because, well, he’s The Rock and he can. The presidential candidate of 2032 has to go through a series of interviews and each one triggers a flashback to different points of his life.

The sitcom goes through four different time periods in the life of Dwayne Johnson, starting with his childhood when he was 10 years old. The next one shows Rocky as a teenager in high school in Pennsylvania, and then as a freshman at the University of Miami in the year 1990. Finally, the last timeline is set in 2032 where he is running for president.

The first season ended on a cliffhanger. The last episode hinted that Rocky had won the presidential election but did not explicitly confirm so. Season 2 will likely detail the aftermath of the election and give a conclusive answer as to whether Johnson’s aspirations came true or not, but that is not all that it has to offer.

According to reports, the season will feature a number of old-school WWF personalities such as Jerry Lawler, Bam Bam Bigelow, Gene Okerlund, and Freddie Blassie. The other time periods will likely be expanded upon as well, including a possible look back to the Rock when he was cut from the Canadian Football League and the misery that followed.

The first season, while humorous for the most part, did delve into some sensitive topics, particularly during Rock’s time as a college student and the struggles that come with shouldering gigantic dreams and aspirations. In one episode, during a practice match, the Rock tore the ligaments in his shoulder and was then benched for an entire year, and he struggled with depression during the recovery.

Season 2 will most definitely include a few more depressing scenes because, as admitted by the man himself, Dwayne Johnson had to go through a lot before becoming the man he is today.

Aside from the return of the original cast and crew, season two will likely feature a few new faces, especially from the wrestling world and football. If the storyline of the election is expanded upon further, expect a few political figures to show up as well.

When Does The Second Season Come Out?
