Santana and Ortiz have been regulars on AEW TV ever since their stunning debut at All Out on August 31, 2019. Owing to their prominence in prior promotions, many fans thought that the Latin duo would become one of the first few tag champions in the fledgling company.

However, while things have not gone to plan for the popular duo, they have certainly picked up speed via their feud with former Inner Circle leader Chris Jericho and his new cohorts. While the ultimate aim for the two will be tag team gold, here's a refresher for AEW fans who may not know much about the former Impact Wrestling tag team champs.

10 Decade-Long Association

Santana and Ortiz, sometimes called Proud & Powerful, first got together in 2011. Then going by the names Mike Draztik and Angel Ortiz, respectively, the two got busy making a name for themselves in the independent scene.

During their decade-long association, the duo has won numerous championships worldwide. Some of the titles they claimed during their initial years include the AAW Tag Team Championship, CZW World Tag Team Championship, and the HOG Tag Team Championship.

9 EYFBO

The now-AEW stalwarts adopted quite the interesting name when they first got together. Santana and Ortiz formed a team known as EYFBO (Entertain Your F**king Balls Off or Entertain Your Freakin Butt Off), causing quite the flutter in the community.

The two made a name for themselves as one of the best tag teams in the North American wrestling scene, and a call-up to a more prominent promotion was only a matter of time for the American duo.

8 First Tag Team Titles

As a fast-rising tag team, Santana & Ortiz were bound to find themselves covered in gold sooner or later. And that moment finally arrived three years after first teaming up.

Having turned up for various promotions in their initial years without any tangible rewards, the duo won their maiden titles in the summer of 2014. They won the Warriors of Wrestling (WOW) Tag Team titles, defeating three other teams in a Four Way bout at WOW Under The Lights 3.

7 LAX

Impact Wrestling's LAX stable

Perhaps the name that Santana & Ortiz were most well-known for before joining AEW, LAX was a major faction in Impact Wrestling, starting with its TNA days. The two debuted for this stable in Impact Wrestling during a March 16, 2017, episode.

The original gimmick of LAX revolved around its members being Hispanic and denouncing any perceived repression of ethnic minorities in the business. Once they debuted, Santana & Ortiz became a significant part of Impact Wrestling TV thanks to their association with the renegade group.

6 Impact Tag Team Cornerstones

Not many fans may know, but Santana & Ortiz won the Impact World Tag Team Championship two weeks after debuting with the promotion. They defeated Decay, Laredo Kid and Garza Jr., and Reno Scum to claim the titles.

With this win, they solidified themselves as main event players and stalwarts of the company's tag team scene. The duo would enjoy three more successes with the belts before their departure.

5 Invasion storyline

Interestingly, Santana & Ortiz debuted during the Global Force Wrestling (GFW) invasion angle in Impact Wrestling. It saw the former come into the house of their most established opponents and try to leave a mark.

This is where LAX quickly became Tag Team Champions to unite it with their newly claimed Impact World Tag Team titles. Talk about making an instant mark!

4 Initial Fan Mistrust

Debuting during the above invasion storyline also had a negative effect on Santana & Ortiz. The TNA faithful were not sold on the two when they arrived, as this was a new version of their beloved LAX, and the two were replacing popular names like Homicide & Hernandez.

However, the duo quickly won these fans over with their in-ring work and impressive title reigns.

They held the record for the longest reign with the Impact team gold at 261 days and still are holders of the record for most combined days as tag champions, with 662 days. Talk about earning fans' respect.

3 World View

proud and powerful celebrating

Having become such a popular tandem, Santana & Ortiz were soon getting bookings the world over. As a result, they traveled the globe, honing their craft and gaining experience by fighting different styles of opponents.

At this point, the pair also wrestled for The Crash Lucha (Mexico), the West Coast with Bar Wrestling, Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) in Germany, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), and DEFY Wrestling. They even turned out for Ring of Honor, facing the Young Bucks in a sort of dream match.

2 Eddie Kingston Connection

Impact Wrestling's The OGz: Eddie Kingston, Hernandez, and Homicide

Santana, Ortiz, and Eddie Kingston may have banded together to take on Chris Jericho's dastardly Jericho Appreciation Society in AEW, but this is not the first time they have worked together. In Impact Wrestling, during a Civil War kind of plot within LAX, Kingston, then called King, became the newest member of the faction.

At that time, group leader Konnan was attacked, while cornerstones Homicide and Diamante went missing in action, and it was King who assumed the leader's mantle and helped Santana and Ortiz reclaim the tag team titles. Soon after, it was revealed that King had orchestrated the attack on Konnan to grab the leadership position.

1 Double Turn

A now famous and much-hyped topic, the double turn seemingly never goes out of fashion or love. Santana & Ortiz, too, were part of such a turn when in Impact Wrestling.

During an Impact World Tag Team Championship match at Bound for Glory, Sami Callihan interfered on behalf of opponents and champions Ohio Versus Everything (OVE), leading to Santana and Ortiz losing. This ensured LAX became faces, while OVE and Callihan came out as heels after the showdown.
