There was a brief point at the start of 2021 in which AEW teased a huge, Hall of Fame worthy debut at their Revolution PPV. Some fans pondered the idea that free agent at the time, Brock Lesnar, could have potentially been the name that AEW were bringing in. Given their recent, big-money names such as Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Sting all coming into the company over the last couple years, it was within the realm of possibility to some that Tony Khan would splash out on Lesnar.Kofi v Lesnar Smackdown 2019 Cropped The question about “how” Lesnar would work in AEW could immediately be stamped out by saying that he “wouldn’t” work in any other company other than WWE (and his time in NJPW could be clear evidence of that too). However, it’s always fun for the question to be posed and wonder how, in a fantasy booking realm, Lesnar would work in AEW.

Lesnar Would Undoubtedly Be A Part-Timer

With the likely money that Brock Lesnar earns by just his limited schedule in WWE, Lesnar would remain a part-timer. Whilst AEW’s stars have a conveyor belt system of working dates, with several talents taking a few weeks off here and there, many are still regularly featured on television, whether that be in post-match antics or interviews. Lesnar, on the other hand, wouldn’t be a Sting-esque talent where, despite having his matches spaced out over periods of time, he would appear on TV most weeks. It would simply be too expensive.

The best course of action for AEW would be to keep Lesnar for a year or two but squashing as many appearances as they can afford into a tighter timespan. In past years, Lesnar has actually competed more than some may think. In 2017, for instance, he ran multiple house-show circuits as Universal Champion, often competing on B-show PPVs. Therefore, it would be reasonable to suggest that Lesnar could appear quite a few times within a calendar year.

Kenny Omega And Brock Lesnar Is A Match Made In Heaven

There have been suggestions that AEW have been told to not give away surprises, due to not capitalizing on big viewership. Lesnar’s first appearance shouldn’t be announced and appearing as a surprise on an episode of Dynamite would be best. There is simply one name that Lesnar should face first when entering AEW, and that’s Kenny Omega. Whilst some may argue that it would be blowing the biggest match possible immediately, it would be the best way to build interest and bring in viewers.

Brock Lesnar AEW Kenny Omega

Omega is no longer AEW World Champion after losing to Hangman Page, so he would not suffer from a loss, and the belt wouldn’t be put on Lesnar. That would be a pivotal point to having Lesnar in the company – he can by no means win the AEW World Championship. Looking at the damage part-time champions have had on the active WWE roster, and the damage to the prestige of several belts, AEW’s integrity would be severely damaged by having a part-time champ.

Lesnar and Omega would work wonderfully together, as Lesnar’s recent history with hard-hitting, smaller guys such as Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, and Finn Balor is clear proof that the pairing with Omega would be magic. Despite Omega being arguably AEW’s biggest star, Lesnar should win and keep winning until the point where someone new should be put over.

There Are Many Dream Matches In AEW For Lesnar

Without having Paul Heyman by his side, Lesnar would hugely benefit from being able to express his personality – something he’s been afforded in a recent storyline with Roman Reigns, to great effect, and it would work in many different storylines.

After Omega, Jon Moxley should be someone to face off with The Beast on the next PPV, building off their past feud, in which Moxley wasn’t happy with the way their match turned out. With proper planning and discussion, Moxley and Lesnar could produce a hard-hitting affair, with this no longer being the WWE’s ‘Dean Ambrose’. Lesnar should once again prevail. A positive with Lesnar is his ability to switch from heel to face by simply just being himself, and his opponent being who they are, so it wouldn’t particularly matter which side of the fence the likes of Moxley or Omega are on.

There are an infinite amount of dream matches when it comes to Lesnar and the AEW roster, but if he were there, working with smaller guys to get the best out of how he works, would be beneficial. Working yet losing with Lesnar would be of huge benefit to the likes of Jungle Boy, Sammy Guevara, or Darby Allin.

Lesnar Should Put Someone Over, And Then Leave

Lesnar would no doubt bring in a lot of publicity and money to the company, but if he were there, it shouldn’t be for long. The longer he stays, the more likely it would be for him to eventually challenge for the world title, especially if he procured several wins. Therefore, having him finally lose, to never be seen again, would be a huge rub to a new, young star – and who should that be? A name that immediately comes to mind is Wardlow. He is a ticking time bomb on propelling up the card at some point, as either a monster heel or bad-ass babyface, so being the man to finally defeat Lesnar, with him leaving the company for good, would make him an instant star.

Not having Lesnar outstay his welcome would allow the rest of AEW’s talent to keep their spots, benefit from working with someone like him, and the company would be even more legitimised. Even if he went back to WWE or elsewhere following this, people would still talk about AEW. In a fantasy world, it would be great if handled well, and he would certainly work if used with caution, but now that he is back in WWE, the mixture of Lesnar and AEW will likely forever be a fantasy.
