The Baltimore Ravens have released running back Bernard Pierce, after the 24-year-old was arrested on a DUI early Wednesday morning. Pierce was initially stopped for speeding and after asking a few questions, police suspected he was intoxicated. Pierce was asked to step out of the vehicle, and failed a field sobriety test. Pierce was taken into custody and later released.
TMZ Sports reported that Pierce told the cops the Ravens were going to cut him, reportedly saying, "Do you know what happened the last time a Ravens player got a DUI? I'm getting cut tomorrow, not like you care."
The NFL offseason is perhaps the biggest soap opera in all of sports. Year after year, players can't seem to stay out of trouble, whether it's a domestic abuse issue, recreational drugs, or driving under the influence.
Last offseason, a total of five Ravens were arrested and just six weeks after the Super Bowl, three more Ravens players have been arrested; Pierce, Victor Hampton and Terrence Cody. And of course last year included the Ray Rice fiasco. At least the Ravens organization took swift action with Pierce.
