In the world of professional sports leagues, there are players in each league who have cheated on their wives and girlfriends, commonly known as WAGs, but there's just something about American football that has its players unsatisfied with their WAGs. We don't have a crystal clear answer why cheating occurs, but we know it has something to do with having tons of money and living the life.
In a four-part Sports Illustrated series examining the intricacies of being an NFL wife, Rachel Terrill (wife of former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Craig Terrill) wrote: "One NFL wife was out to dinner one night at a club when the manager said they were closing early for an NFL team party. She was surprised, “My husband plays for that team,” she told the manager. He let her stay. She sat in the corner of the room and watched nearly a dozen of her husband’s married teammates enter the club without their wives. Scantily clad women, none of whom the woman recognized, followed the players. Over the next hour, she watched married players kiss and dance with women who were not their wives."
Of course, not all NFL players are infamously known as cheaters, but there are a lot of stories of infidelity that go around fairly quickly, especially in the digital age. We're pretty sure you'll recognize some of these names as you scroll through this football-orientated list.
And now, without more ado, here are 15 NFL players who constantly cheated on their partners.
15 Chad Johnson
Chad Johnson invited his then-wife Evelyn Lozada (Basketball Wives star) on an all-expenses paid trip to the wedding after she lost her husband the previous month. The couple married on July 4, 2012. Everything was looking up, right? Wrong.
Just days before the couple's wedding, Lozada found a box of condoms in Johnson's car as the pair returned home from dinner. She claimed that he cheated on her with a woman named Beverly Shiner that he first met on Twitter. She confronted him about Shiner and that led to an argument that got so violent that he allegedly headbutted her. Other reported side chicks were Amber Priddy and Bianca Zuluaga.
Just three days later, Lozada filed for divorce, citing that her marriage was irretrievably broken. The divorce was finalized on September 19, 2012. She might be a money-grabber, but she simply seemed like she couldn't put up with Johnson's infidelity anymore.
14 Reggie Bush
Reggie Bush once dated Kim Kardashian and allegedly cheated on the reality star with a woman named January Gessert (Basketball Wives: LA star). While some might cut him some slack for cheating on a Kardashian, he apparently hasn't learned from his mistakes.
Bush has been married to wife, Lilit Avagyan, since 2014. The couple have three kids together. But their marriage hasn't always been smooth sailing. In 2017, he allegedly cheated on his wife with a Miami-based nightclub waitress named Monique, who claimed he was the father of her unborn child. He was indeed the father of the love child, and it seems like the baby scandal was brushed off. His wife seems to have let him slide, as they're still together with three children.
13 Brett Favre
Brett Favre was a tremendous quarterback who spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers. He was also considered as one of the most annoying quarterbacks due to his on-again, off-again retirement announcements. Favre was known as quite the partier earlier in his career and would often pull all-nighters with his teammates, which raised red flags that he was being unfaithful to his wife.
Back in 2008, Favre was in hot water after a New York Jets' game day host, Jenn Sterger, claimed that the then-Jets quarterback sent her photos of his junk as well as racy texts. After Sterger's claim was made public, two massage therapists came forward with similar claims on unwanted texts.
This all happened when Favre's wife, Deanna, was dealing with breast cancer. Stay classy.
12 Brandon Marshall
Brandon Marshall currently plays for the New York Giants as a wide receiver. He's been married to his wife, Michi Nogami, since 2010, but he hasn't been squeaky clean during the marriage either. Earlier in his career, Marshall was often seen at nightclubs with teammates and it seemed his fun didn't end when he got married.
Marshall and former NFL running back Chris Johnson reportedly owned a "side house" for their groupies, jump offs and mistresses that was linked to the shooting of a 15-year-old-girl the previous year. The pair's "fun house" was nothing new, but it proved that some NFL players partied and had slept with other women after their games. At least they had fun while it lasted, right?
11 Tom Brady
Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback with five Super Bowl rings, and a stunning wife, Gisele Bundchen (Brazilian model of German descent); but his personal life has always been kind of checkered.
You see, Brady left his ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan (actress) for Bundchen. Moynahan is now happily married to her husband, Andrew Frankel (businessman), but at the time, she was lost and confused.
Brady has been married to Bundchen since 2009. The superstar couple have two kids together. However, his wife was rumored to have threatened divorce a few times like when he let Ben Affleck's young nanny, Christine Ouzounian, ride on his private jet and try on his SB rings, and he allegedly had a relationship with President Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka, according to former communications director Anthony Scaramucci.
Whatever the extramarital problems were, it seems that the couple has managed to work them out each and every time.
10 Joe Horn
Joe Horn is an assistant coach at Northeast Mississippi Community College and a former wide receiver who spent the majority of his career with the New Orleans Saints from 2000 to 2006.
The Saints took a nose dive following a promising 10-6 campaign where head coach Jim Haslett was named Coach of the Year. While Horn wasn't completely the one to blame for the Saints' mishaps, there was an alleged belief that he knocked up the wife of Hall of Fame tackle Willie Roaf. This story certainly raised eyebrows to those belonging to the Saints' organization, and although the belief has been denied by all parties, Horn is indeed married, but has seven children from an unknown amount of women and likely cheated on at least one of those women.
9 Peyton Manning
This may come as a surprise to you, but even successful quarterbacks like Peyton Manning has been the center of infidelity rumors ranging from having a discreet, long-term relationship with an Indianapolis-based meteorologist named Angela Buchman to entertaining two Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders. Manning has faced numerous allegations in the past, and people have always speculated that he's just a little too squeaky clean to be true.
Obviously, rumors are just rumors, but the rumors surrounding Manning were fairly persistent and most likely perplexed his wife, Ashley, and perhaps even their two sons. Whether the rumors were true or not, there was still smoke that went up in flames and that's never a good thing. Just ask Tiger Woods.
8 Ray Lewis
Ray Lewis is a self-proclaimed Christian, but he sure hasn't always acted like a "real" Christian.
In case you didn't know, Lewis fathered six children with four different women and was even involved in a murder trial for the stabbing deaths of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar. Lewis was ultimately acquitted for the two deaths, but hasn't seemed to have learned his lesson when it comes to the relationship and love department as he has always been more of a playboy who doesn't want to settle down with just one woman for the rest of his life. One of Lewis's ex partners spoke about his past, and re-affirms despite their differences, the two remain close in raising their three sons:
"We are all ex something's. Ex-drunks. Alcoholics. Womanizers. Whatever it is. He's got a past. So what," said Tatyana McCall.
7 Rob Gronkowski
If you're searching for a true definition of an NFL playboy, look no further...
New England Patriots' tight end Rob Gronkowski seemingly continues to live his life as if he's a college frat boy even though he's 28 years old now. Don't get us wrong, Gronkowski is an extremely talented NFL player, but he doesn't seem like he's going to hold down a long-term relationship anytime soon.
Gronkowski has allegedly had some girlfriends and on-again, off-again romances with various women ranging from Patriots cheerleaders to female DJs. His partying lifestyle has obviously led to many temptations and as a result, Gronk hasn't stayed in a monogamous relationship for long. It's safe to say he can score on and off the field.
6 Willis McGahee
Willis McGahee wasn't a very lovable player when he played in the NFL. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft, where he played for three years before moving onto the Ravens, Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns.
Despite not finding a large amount of success in the NFL, McGahee certainly got busy as he has fathered 10 children with eight different women. He reportedly cheated on at least a couple of these women. Not only has he knocked up several baby mamas, he also has to pay large child support payments. Hopefully, those payments won't empty out his wallet, as keeping up with payments like that becomes a problem when NFL paychecks aren't coming in anymore.
5 Deion Sanders
Deion "Prime Time" Sanders had an illustrious career and a larger than life personality. He pretty much lit up the room as soon as he walked in.
Because of that, he most likely thought that he could do whatever he wanted since he'll get away with things. Right? Wrong.
Prime Time's divorce from his ex wife, Pilar Biggers-Sanders, was extremely messy. The ball that got their divorce rolling was that he got caught cheating with an alleged 19-year-old mistress whose name is Aleea Stanton. Also, Pilar was determined to get a hold of her ex husband's other mistress Tracy Edmonds.
As the ugly divorce unfolded, each moment got uglier by the minute; but the chaos finally came to an end in 2013. Sanders has been dating Edmonds ever since.
4 Delanie Walker
Some men just aren't made for relationships.
Take, for example, Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker, who has played in Music City since 2013. He was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the 175th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
Walker has been named to the Pro Bowl twice in back-to-back years of 2015 and 2016, but his personal life was pretty much a dumpster fire. He had a Valentine's Day to forget in 2015 as his longtime girlfriend, Rachel Lewis, hacked his Instagram account and accused him of frequent cheating while she was five moments pregnant.
The Instagram post has been deleted, but per Uproxx.com, Lewis wrote: "This is my girlfriend/fiancée of 10 years. Her name is Racine. I broke up with her just a few days ago, like I do every February because I have no self control in the off season. I’m a ‘celebrity’ and she no longer looks good enough for my ‘image’ while I’m not playing football. She’s also 5 months pregnant so I figured it was the perfect time to take advantage of her."
3 Eugene Robinson
Eugene Robinson is a former safety who played in the NFL for a lengthy 15 years from 1985 to 2000. He was a Super Bowl XXXI champion, three-time NFC champion, three-time Pro Bowl member, two-time All-Pro and 1993 NFL Interceptions Leader.
Robinson is a Christian, but he didn't always act like one. On the eve of Super Bowl XXXIII, he clearly needed to relieve some of his tension, and ended up soliciting a prostitute (who was actually an undercover detective) and getting arrested on a charge of soliciting a prostitute in Miami, Florida. He was most likely doing the same thing on other occasions.
As if things weren't already bad enough, Robinson received the Bart Starr award, just hours before his arrest. In addition, he had a wife and kids at the time. Ouch.
2 Adrian Peterson
Antonio Cromartie seems to be the NFL player that gets the most attention for the amount of kids with different women he has, but Adrian Peterson has had more than his share too. Peterson has been the best running back of his generation but his off-field issues of infidelity, and being a father to kids he barely knows has continued to surface. Back in 2013, Peterson suffered a tragedy when it was revealed one of his sons, just aged 2, passed away in hospital. The boy's adopted father went on a lengthy social media post to say Peterson barely knew the child and hadn't raised him.
Some reports have Peterson being a father to eight different kids with as many as four baby mammas. There also seemed to be overlap between those relationships. If Peterson is still paying child support for all those kids, retirement may not be too kind to him.
1 Lance Johnstone
Lance Johnstone is a former defensive end who played in the NFL for 10 years from 1996 to 2006. He played college football at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Johnson was also known for taking cheating to a whole new level as he came up with the idea of a floating love party. Yes, a floating love party. But the idea quickly became infamous as a group of Minnesota Vikings players peed on a lawn while being shuttled back from a boat.
Johnson's wife, Jerika, didn't file for divorce, but she co-founded a business called "Off The Market" whose target was to help athletes and their WAGs maintain a loving a relationship and prevent possible urges of cheating on one another. That's certainly a commendable way to go about it.
