152016 - Carson Wentz
Original Pick: QB Jared Goff, 1st Overall
The Rams had a franchise-altering opportunity with the first overall pick last year. Having drafted powerful running back Todd Gurley with the tenth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Rams acquired the first overall pick in 2016 from the Tennessee Titans. They
were set to move from St. Louis to Los Angeles and had the opportunity to select a franchise quarterback to usher in a new generation of fans.
It was assumed the team would select either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff, the top available quarterbacks. As we know, the Rams took Goff, the owner of the worst college win-loss record (14-23) of any number one drafted quarterback, but also the NCAA leader in passing yards in 2015 with 4,714. It's early, but Goff was forced to sit and watch Case Keenum do his best attempt at impersonating an NFL quarterback, while Wentz has captured national attention for his veteran-like poise.
