New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had a rough Super Bowl weekend, first seeing his team lose in heartbreaking fashion before confessing to reporters that he was going to consider walking away from football this offseason.

Things went from bad to worst for Gronk. According to reporters from CBS Boston, his Foxborough home was broken into it, and police chief William Baker confirmed that some items were stolen. Officials would not detail which items were taken from Gronkowski’s house.

Per CBS Boston, police were called shortly at approximately 6:18 p.m. on Monday evening to come and investigate. Authorities would  also not give any further details about the burglary. Gronkowski’s house is not far from where the team’s home games at Gillette Stadium are played.

Gronkowski was the most productive Patriots’ catcher in Super Bowl 52. He had nine receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Gronk nearly pulled in a last-second Hail Mary that would have given the Patriots an opportunity to run a two-point conversion and force overtime.

After the game, Gronkowski turned heads when he admitted that he’s pondering his future in football to reporters.  “I mean I’m definitely going to look at my future, for sure. I’m going to sit down the next couple of weeks and see where I’m at,” he said, per NFL.com.

Gronkowski has been by far the most dominant tight end in NFL history. But as he approaches his 29th birthday in May, Gronk will have already dealt with a torn ACL, two broken forearms, a herniated disc and a concussion. With the injuries piling up on the two-time Super Bowl champion, Gronkowski may decide the best option is to leave the game for safety risks.

With coordinator Matt Patricia and Josh McDaniels accepting head coaching jobs, the Patriots already have to change up the coaching staff. If Gronkowski opts to retire, the roster will look a whole lot different as well.
