Vince McMahon announced on Thursday afternoon that the XFL will return in 2020, and quite a few of his current employees have reacted to the news.

For the past month or so, many of us speculated about what Vince McMahon‘s announcement was going on Jan. 25, 2018. McMahon set up a company completely separate from WWE called Alpha Entertainment and nobody really seemed to know why. Well, Jan. 25, 2018 has now come and gone, of course, and we don’t need to speculate anymore, the announcement was that McMahon is giving the XFL another go.

While the details are few and far between right now, the WWE chairman did give us a little bit of information. The league will begin in 2020, running while the NFL is in its offseason. McMahon was also asked whether this new XFL venture will affect the day to day running of WWE to which he replied absolutely not. The boss also said that there will be no crossover between his two entities like there was with announcers in 2001.

Despite that categorical answer from McMahon, it didn’t stop some of his current WWE Superstars having a little fun on social media with their potential roles in the XFL reboot. Bray Wyatt tweeted asking his boss to put a team in New Orleans so that he can play, Rusev also wants a spot on the gridiron, and Corey Graves jokingly posted “does this mean I have to be on MORE shows?”

Vince McMahon has not been shy about admitting that he made a lot of mistakes when he first launched the XFL back in 2001, and really how could he be? This time around, he has given himself a lot of preparation time, will be bringing in experts to do most of the heavy lifting, and basically trying to avoid any of the pitfalls he fell into last time he tried to make this work. That may very well include using WWE talent.

What’s for certain is that the XFL will be treated as a completely separate entity to WWE. With Vince McMahon at the helm of both companies many will associate one with the other, but as far as the chairman is concerned, at this point, the two worlds will never meet.
