We’ve published our fair share of “hottest WAGs” lists here at TheSportster, and we can confidently say that of all the athletes, football players have the hottest wives and girlfriends (coming in a distant last place are professional bowlers). We’re talking gorgeous celebrities, smoking hot supermodels, and beauty pageant queens (in fact, there are three former Miss America contestants on this list).
Unsurprisingly, the quarterback is the most well-represented position on this list, making up nearly two-thirds of the total entries. Sports Illustrated recently wrote an article about this phenomena entitled, “Handsome Is As Handsome Does: Are QBs really the best-looking players?” The short answer? No. There is no evidence to suggest that playcallers are more physically attractive than other position players, and in fact, according to a study conducted by SI, on average wide receivers and linebackers were considered more attractive than QBs. But physical appeal only accounts for part of it. The other part of the reason why quarterbacks are often viewed as the most attractive players in football, and therefore get the most beautiful women, has to do with the status and glamor associated with the position, which has the potential to turn an average Joe into a Broadway Joe. As SI writes, “[S]ocially, we’ve been trained to think that the quarterback is the most beautiful person on the team.”
So there you have it. If you want to be considered better looking and land a beautiful woman, all you have to do is learn to throw a pigskin 70 yards and thread the needle while 250-pound linebackers are charging toward you.
15 Samantha Ponder
Samantha Steele married 49ers backup QB (then-Minnesota Vikings starting QB) in 2012 after only dating for a short period. He actually received a lot criticism for his relationship with Steele, because some felt that it was an unnecessary distraction from football, especially considering how he was struggling to adapt to the NFL after a highly successful college career. Former Super Bowl coach, and current Fox Sports analyst, even went so far as to say, “Maybe his wife can teach him how to throw.” Ouch.
But can you really blame Ponder? I mean, who wouldn’t be distracted by her? I’m guessing there are more than a few men out there who would gladly give up a few interceptions to be with her.
On top of being the wife of an NFL quarterback, Samantha is an ESPN sideline reporter who covers college football and basketball.
14 Aly Raisman
To call Aly Raisman an official “WAG” might be a bit of a stretch, considering it’s unclear as to whether or not she’s even met free agent tight end Colton Underwood in real life, but, at the very least, she did agree to go on a date with him after he asked her out via video during an interview with Yahoo! Sports.
Raisman, who recently took home the all-around silver for gymnastics at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, was apparently made aware of Underwood, who was a member of the Oakland Raiders up until last month before he was released released, through fellow former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson, who is married to Raiders long snapper Andrew East.
After watching the date proposal video, Raisman gave her approval of Underwood, saying, “He’s very cute. I would go on a date with him.” And I’m sure many men around the world are saying the same about her.
13 Camille Kostek
Rob Gronkowski was unable to play in the opening game of the 2016 NFL season due to a nagging hamstring injury that he suffered in preseason, but if there’s any consolation, it’s the fact that he gets to limp back home to his current girlfriend, former New England cheerleader Camille Kostek.
Gronkowski and Kostek have been linked together (on and off) for over a year, with the Patriots tight end never appearing to take the relationship too seriously, but recent pictures of them out and about on the town suggest that they’re more serious than ever, and the blonde bombshell may have actually managed to tame the wild party animal that is Gronk.
Hey, if you’re going to give up your hard-partying ways for anyone, Camille’s that person.
12 Ariel Meredith
What does it take to get a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model for a girlfriend? Apparently back-to-back seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards and a Super Bowl win. Or at least that’s what worked for Hakeem Nicks, who’s not only great at nabbing catches but also at nabbing women, because he’s attached to one of the hottest models in the world, Ariel Meredith, who appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue five times, each appearance hotter than the last.
The current status of Nicks and Meredith’s relationship is somewhat unclear, but as of last year they were reportedly engaged and she was pregnant with their first child.
After spending five seasons with the Giants, Nicks signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, only to return to New York the following season. He then signed with the New Orleans Saints, but they waived him just before the season began, which means he’s currently a free agent. On the plus side, now he gets to spend more time with his smoking hot swimsuit model of a girlfriend.
11 Kelly Hall
Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and his beautiful wife, Kelly Hall, met while they were attending the University of Georgia. It’s the modern version of Romeo and Juliet (you know, minus the poisoning): he was a star football player and she was the hot cheerleader.
Hall’s made headlines a few times for her hard-partying ways, such as the time she posted videos from her seemingly wild bachelorette party in Las Vegas, where she could be seen crowd surfing and double fisting drinks (sounds like a fun girl). Oh, and of course, there were plenty of bikini pics.
She should have plenty to cheer about this season, as her husband looks to improve upon a stellar 2015 season that saw him pass for over 4,000 yards for the 5th time in his career with a QB rating of 97.0. Now if only she would come out of retirement and join the Lions cheerleading staff.
10 Jessie James
With over a million more followers on Instagram than her husband, it feels a little unfair to call her the wife of Eric Decker. Instead, we should be calling him the husband of Jessie James Decker.
Eric and Jessie married in 2013, and shortly after they became the stars of their own reality television series: Eric & Jessie: Game On, which followed their everyday goings-on as they balanced their careers with their personal lives.
Jessie is a country singer, with three studio albums to her credit and a fourth one on the way, while Eric is entering his 7th season in the NFL and his fourth with the New York Jets, coming off one of his best seasons yet, where he made 80 receptions for over 1,000 yards and 12 TDs.
9 Lauren Tannehill
Ryan Tannehill is known perhaps just as much for his football career as he is for his hot wife (okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but he should be—I mean, just look at her). Lauren and Ryan met in 2009 during the most romantic time of the year: spring break.
Drafted 8th overall out of Texas A&M by the Miami Dolphins, the Tannehills featured prominently in the HBO reality show Hard Knocks, and it was at that time that Lauren caught the eye of millions of Americans with her stunning good looks.
There’s no shortage of hot pictures of her online, not just from her modeling career but also from her various social media accounts. And hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the near future, as her husband enters his fifth season as the starting QB of the Dolphins. We’re not necessarily Miami fans, but we’ll gladly root for them to go deep into the playoffs if it means we have a greater chance of catching a glimpse of her on the sidelines.
8 Kristin Cavallari
Many a man has wondered what Kristin Cavallari sees in Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler. She’s gorgeous and famous, having starred in the popular reality television show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, while he’s, you know, Jay Cutler, who looks like he’s constantly waking up from the worst bender of his life. Maybe it’s all those Super Bowls that he’s won… oh, wait. Whatever the reason, Cutler should count himself lucky, because he has one of the hottest wives in football. And really, who needs Super Bowl rings when you’ve got that to go home to every night.
Cavallari is beautiful inside and out, as on top of her acting career, she is heavily involved in several charitable organizations, such as PETA, AIDS and HIV awareness, and One Kid One World, a non-profit organization that seeks to provide better education for children in Kenya and El Savador.
7 Katherine Webb
With less than 1,000 passing yards in the NFL, Cincinnati Bengals backup QB AJ McCarron might not be the most elite player on this list, but his wife sure is an elite hottie. A former beauty queen (she was named Miss Alabama in 2012 and finished in the top 10 of the Miss USA pageant that same year), Webb became internet famous in 2013 when she was spotted in the crowd at the BCS National Championship game rooting on her then-boyfriend McCarron and his Alabama Crimson Tide, who would beat Notre Dame 42-14 thanks to AJ’s four touchdown passes. It marked the first time that a quarterback had won the BCS Championship two years in a row. But, still, his greatest accomplishment to date has to be landing Katherine Webb for a wife. Even ESPN announcer Brent Musburger couldn’t contain his lustful feelings for Webb, focusing much of his attention on her during the broadcast of the college championship game.
6 Marissa Powell
AJ McCarron isn’t the only football player with a beauty pageant winner for a wife. Detroit Lions outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy proposed to former Miss Utah Marissa Powell back in 2013 when he was still playing college football at BYU.
Powell made headlines that same year when she struggled with a question during the Miss USA pageant. When asked about income inequality in the United States, she awkwardly stumbled over her words before regrettably blurting out: “[W]e need to see how to create education better.” Van Noy, the loyal boyfriend that he is, defended her by saying that she’s one of the smartest people he knows.
After struggling to make much of an impression in the NFL due to injuries, with just 16 career tackles, Van Noy, who was taken in the second round of the 2014 draft after being rated one of the top linebackers in his class, will look to break out in a big way this season, and it should help that he has Marissa by his side, whom he described as a “very big influence” in his life.
5 Candice Crawford
You could make a small beauty pageant with all the former Miss America contestants from this list. Representing the state of Missouri and giving Katherine Webb and Marissa Powell a run for their money would be Candice Crawford, wife of (oft-injured) Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo.
After his highly publicized relationships with singers Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson, Romo finally settled down with the beautiful Crawford, who, on top of being a former beauty queen, is a TV reporter, covering high school sports in the Dallas area.
Candice’s older brother is Hollywood actor Chace Crawford, who starred in the popular CW series Gossip Girl. According to Chace, Romo’s bachelor party wasn’t your typical Las Vegas blowout. Instead, he said they went to West Virginia, where they fished, rode ATVs, and watched golf. Not exactly exciting, but then again who needs an exciting bachelor party when you’re marrying one of the hottest women in America?
We have a theory that the reason Romo keeps getting injured is so he can spend more time with his beautiful wife. And who can blame him?
4 Adriana Lima
Not to be outdone by his teammate Tom Brady, Julian Edelman went out and got a Victoria’s Secret model of his own: Adriana Lima. According to TMZ, the pair met in July and were spotted together hand-in-hand later that month in Nantucket. And if there’s any truth to that old Nantucket limerick, then chances are they had one hell of a time together.
Unfortunately for Edelman and us football fans (but mostly Edelman), Lima appears to have moved on to another man, as she’s now reportedly dating former American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. Nevertheless, her brief time with the Patriots’ wide receiver earned her a spot on this list as one of the hottest NFL WAGs of 2016.
Edelman’s relationship with the superhot supermodel didn’t appear to pose a distraction to his football career, as he opened up the 2016 season with a stellar performance in game one despite not having Tom Brady at the helm of the offense.
Making his case for being the next Tom Brady—that is, highly successful and married to one of the most beautiful celebrities in the world—Russell Wilson married singer Ciara on July 6, 2016. Wilson, who describes himself as a devout Christian, claimed that he and Ciara were practicing abstinence until their marriage, so we’re assuming that the wedding was a rushed affair.
Perhaps best known for her second album, Ciara: The Revolution, the Texas-born songstress, who was born Ciara Princess Harris, has been nominated for several Grammy Awards and has sold over 23 million records. Together, she and Wilson are raising her son Future, whom she had with her previous boyfriend, rapper Future.
2 Olivia Munn
Former Attack of the Show! host Olivia Munn broke the hearts of nerds everywhere in 2014 when she revealed that she was dating Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Together they form one of the biggest celebrity powerhouse couples in the league, next only to that guy from New England who married that Victoria’s Secret model. Munn is an actress, having appeared in films like Date Night, Iron Man 2, Magic Mike, and X-Men Apocalypse, while Rodgers is one of the best QBs currently in the league, having won the MVP in 2011 and 2014 after he passed for 4,643 yards with a QB rating of 122.5 and 4,381 yards with a rating of 112.2, respectively.
On top of his two MVPs, he has won a Super Bowl, been named a Super Bowl MVP, and has one of the hottest girlfriends in all of football—hell, all of the world. Now all he has to do is win the lottery and he can officially be considered the luckiest man in the world.
1 Gisele Bundchen
Although come to think of it, maybe there is one guy who’s luckier than Aaron Rodgers. I’m talking about Tom Brady of course, whose life, if it were made into a movie, would seem almost too good to be true.
Considered by many to be the greatest quarterback of all time, he has won just about every accolade possible in the NFL, and usually more than once. He’s got three Super Bowls, three Super Bowl MVPs, and two MVPs, not to mention the hottest wife in the NFL in former Victoria’s Secret model Gisele Bundchen. Not only is she the sexiest WAG in all of football, but she’s also been called the sexiest woman in the world.
It’s not enough that Brady married a supermodel; he had to marry the supermodel. Combined, she and Tom have an estimated net worth of somewhere north of half a billion dollars, so we’re guessing he’s not too upset about having to sit out the first four games of the season due to suspension.
