When you're a pro football player, you have it all. You have fame, fortune, millions of adoring fans around the world – even if some of them are a bit psycho – and your choice of women who are throwing themselves at you 24/7/365.
Sounds like quite the life, doesn't it?
Of course, some of these pro ball players seem to think they want the “normal” life that consists of a wife and kids. But given that some informal polls estimate that up to 80% of players cheat on their wives, it makes you wonder why they even bother getting married to begin with.
Yeah, they may get away with it for a while, but eventually, it comes out. It always does. Whether it by by a scorned mistress, by some enterprising member of the paparazzi snapping a picture of a player and his girlfriend at an inopportune time, one of their buddies opening their mouths to the wrong person at the wrong time, or just a bizarre set of circumstances that exposes their extracurricular activities – or in some cases, the house they own specifically for said extracurricular activities – it always seems to come out eventually.
Given the amount of money some of these guys pay out in alimony and child support each and every month, you just have sometimes have the desire to ask them if that side action was all worth it. By our complex calculations, because of their monthly payments, some of these ballplayers will not be able to quit playing football. Ever.
While some athletes keep things relatively discrete, there are always whispers, and in cases of extramarital affairs in the lives of pro athletes, where there is smoke, very often there is fire. As said above, everything comes out eventually. But until it does in a concrete way, sometimes all we have are the whispered accusations.
With that in mind, here are 20 -- ahem -- allegedly unfaithful NFL players...
20 Peyton Manning
Manning's infidelities are simply a matter of rumors at this point. A lot of rumors. But then, so were Tiger Woods' many infidelities for quite a while. Like Woods, Manning's image and reputation are one of a squeaky clean, all American kinda guy. He's the sort of guy mothers across the country want their daughters to bring on home for family dinner. That's the image and the reputation that Manning banks on.
But image and reality are often two different things entirely.
According to the many rumors floating around, the most persistent one is of his relationship with an Indianapolis area television meteorologist named Angela Buchman. It's rumored that Manning and Buchman carried on a relationship between 2009-2011.
There are a number of other crazy, completely dubious rumors about Manning swirling around on the internet such as he was seen receiving sexual favors in a car outside of the Superdome in Louisiana, to the rumor that he delayed a team flight in Atlanta because he was busy – ahem – “entertaining” two of the Falcons' cheerleaders.
But the Buchman rumor is the one that is most persistent, and the fact that she's been photographed with Manning and his wife at numerous events has only added fuel to the fire. Whether it's true or not, we can't say for sure. But oftentimes, where there is smoke, there is fire – and sometimes, where there's fire, there's a golf club upside the head. Just ask Tiger Woods.
19 Chad Johnson
Unlike the story about Manning, former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco/Johnson's infidelities are pretty well grounded.
While Johnson's fiancee, Evelyn Lozado, was working on wedding arrangements, Johnson was carrying on a several months long relationship with Beverly Shiner, a woman he first met on Twitter.
Johnson's relationship with Shiner was uncovered when Lozano, returning home from dinner with her new husband, found a receipt for a box of condoms in the car, according to RadarOnline.com. The confrontation turned physical and ended with Johnson headbutting his wife – for which, he was arrested.
After being married in July 2012, Johnson and Lozado's divorce was finalized in September 2012, and he has spent time in and out of court – and jail – for failing to comply with the terms of his probation stemming from his arrest after the headbutting incident.
18 Golden Tate
You can chalk this one up to another one of those “maybe it happened” stories that make the rounds. Rumor leaked out of Seattle that Tate, one of the Seahawks' better receivers at the time, had an affair with superstar QB and media darling Russell Wilson's wife at the time, Ashton Meem Wilson, according to the NY Post.
It didn't take long for Tate to jump on Twitter, and on a couple of media outlets to deny the allegations. According to Tate, his girlfriend Elise Pollard and the now former Mrs. Wilson are still “best friends” and the stories are ridiculous. Methinks he doth protest too much?
There is a lot of circumstantial evidence floating around that the affair actually did happen – the key piece, in some people's minds, that Russell Wilson filed for divorce from Meem. Some also point to the alleged black eye that Tate somehow got during Super Bowl week from fellow wideout Percy Harvin, according to CBS Sports. Tate says that never happened and that any and all photos of him sporting a shiner were photoshopped – which is about as credible as somebody claiming their Twitter account was “hijacked” anymore.
It is interesting to note though, that there was definitely some tension when the Seahawks visited the White House after winning the Super Bowl, and that Tate elected to sign with the Detroit Lions rather than re-upping with Seattle.
17 Deion Sanders
Prime Time had a larger than life personality, and often believed he was bulletproof. And for the most part, over the course of his distinguished career, he pretty well was. People loved Deion, the man with the 1000-watt smile and personality that lit up the room.
Of course, oftentimes when people believe they're bulletproof, they do silly things and eventually find out that they're not. Such is the case with Sanders being busted for cheating on his then-wife, Pilar – with a 19-year old model named Aleea Lee, according to Black Sports Online.
As the story goes, Sanders had his buddy, Bengals DB Pacman Jones, hook him up with Lee – because when you're one of the most famous athletes of all time, you still need a buddy to go talk to a girl for you, we guess?
16 Lance Johnstone
In 2005, as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, the former defensive end found himself caught up in one of the NFL's most notorious sex scandals.
During a 1-3 start to their 2005 season, several members of the Vikings thought it would be a good idea to charter a couple of boats and have a floating sex party. The party apparently got a little out of hand, and an appalled boat cleaning crew reported to finding, “... used condoms, K-Y Jelly, Handi Wipes, wrappers for sex toys...” and that some of the players involved, performed sex acts with hired prostitutes in front of them.
Authorities caught wind of it when a group of revelers pulled over a party bus that was shuttling them from the boat so that they could urinate on somebody's lawn – so they naturally called the cops. A group of Vikings' players were found to have been involved in it, and several even faced criminal prosecution for the incident.
A few years later, Lance's wife Jerika co-founded a business aimed at helping athletes and their significant others foster a loving relationship – as well as to keep them from cheating. “Off the Market” was aimed at setting up invite-only social gatherings to help keep athletes who are on the road, from straying.
15 Delanie Walker
It's bad enough when your wife or girlfriend catches you stepping out on them and you're forced to confront their wrath entirely on your own. It's quite something else when said wife or girlfriend learns of your infidelities, hacks your social media accounts, and proceeds to let the world know what a cheating, lying, unfaithful dog you are.
Such is the case of Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker. His fiance – errrr – ex-fiance, who went by the name of “Racine” hacked into Walker's Instagram account and left one blisteringly epic “screw you” to the cheating Walker – and in the process, letting all of his followers see him for the dog he is, which you can see here.
Oh, and she also took the opportunity to share the news that she was four months pregnant. Talk about a double whammy.
14 Russell Wilson
Apparently, Russell Wilson's wife wasn't the only one alleged to have been checking to see if the grass is actually greener on the other side of the fence.
Detroit Lions tight end Joseph Fauria very publicly called out Seattle golden boy Russell Wilson for having “relations” – while he was still married to Meem – with his girlfriend at the time, WWE NXT Diva Erika Hammond. Fauria put Wilson on blast over Twitter when he sent out a message that read:
The reference to Brennan Clay is yet another cheating “scandal” that will be covered a bit later.
Fauria later deleted the Tweet, but as they say, the internet never forgets. Screen caps of that Tweet made the rounds, and it suddenly seemed that Wilson's squeaky clean image took something of a hit.
13 Eugene Robinson
Over the years, thousands and thousands of football players have played the game for the opportunity to get a chance to play for a title. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them never get that chance. And then you have the case of former Falcons' safety Eugene Robinson and you just want to beat your head against the wall.
On the night before the Super Bowl XXXIII, the biggest game of his career, Robinson clearly needed to relieve some of his tension and solicited an undercover detective who was posing as a prostitute, for sex. It was shocking to the football world, as Robinson was widely viewed as one of the “good guys” in the game. In fact, hours before his arrest, Robinson received the Bart Starr award, an honor voted on by NFL players, and given to the one who best exemplifies high moral character. In case you were wondering, he had a wife and kids at the time.
Oh, and as a sidenote, Robinson's Falcons were blown out by the Denver Broncos 34-19.
12 Dezmon Briscoe
If you're going to cheat, one of the cardinal rules is – don't leave a paper trail. Or in the case of former Tampa Bay receiver Dezmon Briscoe, don't leave an electronic paper trail – learn to delete, delete, delete!
It seems that for Briscoe, his relationship with Basketball Wives star (she's Dwight Howard's baby mama) Royce Reed just wasn't enough. He apparently needed something a little familiar to keep him fulfilled. And by familiar, we mean the mother of his baby.
Turns out that Briscoe had been engaging in some hot and heavy sexting conversations with his baby mama and Royce found out about it. She blew them both up on Twitter, posting portions of those heated text messages and put them both on blast in a very public way.
So remember boys and girls, if you're going to cheat, learn to delete.
11 Chris Johnson
The man formerly known as CJ2K hasn't looked like himself in recent seasons. For a while there, you really thought he had a shot of beating Eric Dickerson's single season rushing yardage record. Especially back in 2009 when he topped 2,000 yards for the year.
But being slick and smooth on the field isn't all that CJ2K is known for anymore. He's also known for having a house in Florida that was used only for having a place to take women – whom you weren't involved with – for some spanky-time, according to The Orlando Sentinel. The anonymous house was used so that people like Johnson could step out on their significant others in a very non-public way, and so that the media would not catch wind of it.
The only reason Johnson's house came to light was because there was a burglary at that house, and one of the gang members doing the burgling fired a gun. The bullet happened to hit a 15-year old girl who was passing by in a car with her parents in the head. She survived but is severely brain damaged now.
Though Johnson had nothing to do with the robbery or the shooting, it exposed his love nest all the same.
10 Brandon Marshall
Brandon Marshall makes this list simply because he was partners in the “House of Hoes” scheme with Chris Johnson. Though Marshall and Johnson aren't the only pro athletes to use the house, they are among the more high profile ones.
The sex house that Marshall and Johnson set up isn't anything new or particularly groundbreaking. If you remember those Dallas Cowboys teams of the 1990s, they were flying high. And not just because they were winning Super Bowls. The infamous “Whiet House” some of the Cowboys' players owned was a house where they partied, drank, did drugs, and had sex with women other their wives..
9 Steve McNair
The story of McNair's infidelity is one that had a very tragic ending and should serve as a cautionary tale. Sadly though, most disregard it.
In the months prior to McNair's death, he began an extramarital relationship with 20-year old Sahel Kazemi. For McNair, it was likely just another fling. For Kazemi, it was apparently something much deeper. She was reportedly stressed out by her own financial problems – something McNair had been helping with – and desperate to have McNair all to herself, according to CBS News. McNair obviously cared for her in his own way, but he did not appear to care for her enough to end his own marriage for her.
Perhaps finally coming to that realization, Kazemi enticed McNair to a condo he rented in downtown Nashville – a place they would often get together. It was there that she shot McNair twice in the body and twice in the head before turning the gun on herself. Their bodies were discovered a pair of McNair's friends.
It's a tragic story and one that shocked the world of football.
8 Reggie Bush
Fans of USC football probably weren't too surprised that Reggie Bush found himself in hot water for cheating. After all, it was his breaking the rules while in college that forced USC to suffer through several years of sanctions and penalties.
But when it comes to matters of the heart, Bush is apparently no more ethical than he was while in college. Not that it's surprising. Of course, given that he cheated on reality show star Kim Kardashian, some folks might be willing to cut Bush a little slack.
According to the report, Bush met a blonde beauty named January Gessert, who was a waitress at a club called Red Rock. Apparently, table service means something completely different to Gessert who was seen leaving Bush's home around seven the next morning. Bush and Kardashian broke up shortly after that little nugget of news broke.
All we can say is that Bush dodged a huge bullet in not getting entangled with that group of people.
7 Antonio Cromartie
Infidelity isn't funny, of course. But when it comes to Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, you almost have to laugh. You laugh mainly because Cromartie has absolutely no clue how many kids he even has.
Cromartie has been incredibly busy spreading his seed and making sure his family line never dies out. In fact, he has twelve children in all – though on an episode of HBO's Hard Knocks, he struggled to name them all. And that was when he only had ten!
Cromartie has four children with his wife, Terricka Cason and eight others by seven other women, according to Heavy.com. And given that some of those kids are just about the same age, it's pretty obvious there was some extracurricular activity going on.
It's a good thing he's a pro football player and is earning a lot of money. With that many kids, he's going to need it. Of course, Cromartie can't play forever...
6 Frank Gifford
Gifford's philandering can almost be a punchline. As is his affinity for flight attendants. But that trust with the stewie wasn't the only case of cheating that his longtime wife Kathy Lee had to endure over the course of her nearly thirty year marriage to former NFL great Frank Gifford.
Perhaps the most famous case of adultery in Gifford's playbook came in 1970 with the wife of television icon Johnny Carson. In a tell all book, Carson's longtime attorney, Henry Bushkin, wrote that he accompanied a private investigator and Carson to an apartment that his wife, Joanne, had rented in secret. They broke into the apartment in the middle of the night and found that Carson's wife had indeed been using it as a love nest, and that her paramour was none other than Frank Gifford.
Bushkin wrote that later on, after he'd had a good cry about it, he responded as only Carson could. At a bar, several drinks in, Carson joked:
“Gifford plays three positions on the field. I could only get Joanne to go for one or two. I think I’ll use that in tomorrow’s monologue.”
5 Brett Favre
For a time, Brett Favre was one of the most beloved figures in pro football. Then, with his on again-off again retirement announcements, he became one of the most annoying. Favre was a great quarterback with the gunslinger attitude that so many people are drawn to. He played every game with gusto and won quite a few of them. Of course, he also threw a lot of interceptions and lost a lot as well.
But people are so busy dissecting the numbers and debating his worthiness to be inducted in Canton, they tend to forget about the fact that he's also kind of a dog. In fact, he's a pretty big dog, actually.
As the QB for the Jets back in 2008, Favre got himself into quite a bit of trouble by sending off some rather salacious photos to one of the Jets' game day hostesses, Jenn Sterger. Yes, that's right. Brett Favre, though she apparently didn't ask for them, thought it would be a good idea to send Sterger pictures of his junk as well as some racy text messages. When news of this broke, two more massage therapists came forward to say that they too, had received unwanted texts like the ones Sterger received, according to The Daily Mail.
All this while his wife was recovering from her battle with breast cancer. Keep it classy, Brett.
4 Tiki Barber
Tiki Barber was never beloved as a player when he starred for the New York Giants. To many, he always seemed to come across as too smug and too arrogant. Well, his actions post-football career have only furthered that perception, and made even more people think that he's a grade-A scumbag.
Like many pro athletes who need something to do when their playing days are done, Tiki Barber jumped into the media, joining the “Today Show” on NBC as a correspondent and various other projects.
While he was at the “Today Show” though, Barber met a 23-year old NBC intern by the name of Traci Lynn Johnson. Even though his wife of eleven years, Ginny, was at home pregnant with twins, Tiki opted to spike his relationship with her in favor of a relationship with the young, attractive blonde, according to The New York Post. The backlash was swift and merciless – as it should be.
What's ironic is that in his memoir, Barber wrote about the example he wanted to set for his children:
“I want to be an honorable man, because that’s what I want them both to be. My family is everything to me.”
Clearly, he fell way, way, way short in that department. Honorable man, he is not.
3 Hank Baskett
When news broke that Hank Baskett had been found to be cheating on his wife, former Playboy Playmate Kendra Wilkinson, people were shocked. When they found out that he'd cheated on his former Playmate wife with a transsexual model named Ava Sabrina London, according to The National Enquirer, heads exploded around the country – with perhaps the biggest explosion coming from Wilkinson herself.
Baskett has gone to the FBI, claiming that London illegally recorded their interactions and extorted him to keep details about their relationship quiet. Though Baskett still denies anything happened other than him hanging out with London, you can't help but get the feeling there's far more to the story.
As for his relationship with Wilkinson, they appear to be working through it and doing their best to come together as family again – and conveniently enough, we can watch it all play out on their new reality television series.
2 DeMarco Murray
You'd hope that you could trust a good friend, and longtime teammate around your wife or girlfriend. Apparently though, that wasn't the case with running back Brennan Clay and superstar running back DeMarco Murray.
As Clay scraped around the league, trying to catch on somewhere, his wife, Gina D'Agostini was carrying on an affair with his former college and Dallas teammate, Murray, according to Gawker.com. Clay discovered a series of text messages that were – explicit – to say the least, and found that D'Agostini had tried to hide the fact that she was engaging with Murray by labeling him as “Spray Tan” in her phone's contacts list. Nice cover there.
Clay put them both on blast on his own Twitter account, posting screencaps of text conversations in which Murray and D'Agostini were discussing where in her house they'd be doing the deed – spoiler alert, it was DeMarco's apparent dream to nail D'Agostini in the bed she shared with Clay. Because that's not weird or anything.
1 Tom Brady
Apparently, Tom Brady doesn't do all of his cheating on the field. He allegedly does it off the field too. Though, we don't think this cheating scandal had anything to do with underinflated balls.
In 2006, Brady left his pregnant girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan, after more than three years together. Days after he left Moynahan, Brady confirmed his relationship with supermodel Gisele Bundchen and said they'd been dating since “sometime before Christmas,” according to Bleacher Report.
Sounds pretty vague, doesn't it? Sounds about as vague as the Wells Report that Patriots' fans are crying foul about right now, actually. But Touchdown Tommy's cheating in this case, didn't have any impact on the integrity of the game, it only called his own into question.
