At this point, Seth Rollins has enjoyed nearly a decade-long career in WWE, where he debuted on the main roster as a heel and tag team specialist in The Shield, broke out as a top singles heel, turned babyface and heel again, and enjoyed four World Title reigns in the process. On top of that, he had about six years on the indie scene to start with, including a run as a top champion in Ring of Honor as Tyler Black.

As a result of all that, Seth Rollins has a ton of matches to his name, some of which fans may not remember. Let’s take a look at some notable but forgotten matches from The Architect’s career.

10 Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre (NXT, 8/1/2012)

Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre (NXT, 8/1/2012)

With the relaunch of NXT into a developmental promotion came the creation of the NXT Championship, the first holder of which would be determined in a “Gold Rush Tournament.” Seth Rollins would ultimately win the Tournament, but had a pretty notable first round opponent in Drew McIntyre, just before Drew was relegated to the comedy jobber tag team 3MB. It would prove to be one of the first really good matches in NXT history, and one that gained historical value as both became top stars on the WWE main roster.

9 Tyler Black & Bryan Danielson vs. The American Wolves (ROH on HDNet, 6/27/2009)

Tyler Black (aka Seth Rollins) & Bryan Danielson

Over the course of his time with Ring of Honor, Tyler Black would take on some of the best wrestlers to come through that promotion, including future WWE opponent Bryan Danielson. The two would clash a couple of times in Ring of Honor, with no conclusive finish thanks to a Time Limit Draw and Double Countout, after which they would team up to come after Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, and their ROH Tag Team Championship. Unfortunately, the makeshift duo couldn’t put away The American Wolves in their 19 minute TV match.

8 Tyler Black vs. Awesome Kong (NWA Midwest, 9/22/2007)

Tyler Black vs. Awesome Kong (NWA Midwest, 9/22/2007)

One cool thing about guys who started on the indies is that so many of them end up having random seeming matchups in their CV. Tyler Black is no exception, having once taken on women’s wrestling legend and two-time Impact Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong in 2007.

By this point, Black was already beginning to make waves in Ring of Honor and the indies, and ended up losing to Kong in seven minutes after a sit-out powerbomb.

7 Seth Rollins vs. Heath Slater (WWE Raw, 8/4/2014)

Seth Rollins vs. Heath Slater (WWE Raw, 8/4/2014)

Originally scheduled to be a “Beat The Clock Challenge” against Rob Van Dam, The Authority changed Rollins’ matchup at the last minute, replacing RVD with Heath Slater. Of course, Rollins was expecting an easy win here, but Dean Ambrose ended up interfering at ringside by goofing around with Seth’s recently acquired Money in the Bank Briefcase. This was enough to trip up Seth Rollins and earn Slater a roll-up victory. It’s the kind of match that does nothing for the winner, but does contribute to the loser’s storyline.

6 Tyler Black & Jeff Luxon vs. LAX (Impact Wrestling, 10/5/2006)

Tyler Black & Jeff Luxon vs. LAX (Impact Wrestling, 10/5/2006)

Like many of his contemporaries, including future Shield partner Jon Moxley, Tyler Black wrestled a one-off bout for Impact Wrestling. Unlike many of his contemporaries, however, Black’s match was actually televised as he teamed with Illinois-based wrestler Jeff Luxon to take on the duo of Homicide and Hernandez. Black’s 40-second loss would end up being his first-ever major TV match, happening mere months before his debut on Wrestling Society X and two years before his Ring of Honor run.

5 Seth Rollins vs. Big E Langston (NXT, 1/9/2013)

Seth Rollins vs. Big E Langston (NXT, 1/9/2013)

Seth Rollins’ NXT Title reign lasted 133 days, with Seth randomly turning heel at the end thanks to his debut on the main roster as part of The Shield. By the end of 2012, he had a challenger in future New Day member Big E Langston. This title match would be one of four singles matches they would have over the course of a decade — a No DQ match involving Shield interference, the entire locker room spilling out to thwart them, and Big E standing victorious as the new NXT Champion.

4 Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE Battleground, 7/19/2015)

Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE Battleground, 7/19/2015)

It’s wild that a PPV match between Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar could be deemed forgotten, but this is it. Following his “Heist of the Century” at WrestleMania 31 wherein he “stole” the WWE Championship from Brock thanks to a Money in the Bank briefcase cash-in, Lesnar got a rematch at Battleground.

This main event title bout lasted about nine minutes before The Undertaker made a surprise appearance, drawing a No Contest finish because both Rollins and the referee magically disappeared.

3 DIFH vs. Team Dragon Gate (WSX Xtra, 2/27/2007)

DIFH vs. Team Dragon Gate (WSX Xtra, 2/27/2007)

In 2006, MTV debuted Wrestling Society X, a pro wrestling show with special effects, musical guests, and proto-Lucha Underground vibes. But the show also had a number of future stars, including Tyler Black, who tagged with Jimmy Jacobs as Do It For Her (DIFH), with Black as the aggressive punk and Jacobs as the pacifist emo. One of the more surprising matchups from this run had DIFH taking on Dragon Gate stars Masato Yoshino and Genki Horiguchi, a fun matchup that does a great job of showing the pretty funny Black/Jacobs dynamic.

2 Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler (Extreme Rules, 7/15/2018)

Seth Rollins vs. Dolph Ziggler (Extreme Rules, 7/15/2018)

Brock Lesnar’s Universal Championship title reign — during which he rarely showed up with the belt — had a weird effect on the WWE product, as evidenced by Extreme Rules 2018 where the Intercontinental Title main evented in an Iron Man match between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins. While that sounds like a smark’s dream, the circumstances weren’t great, as the unruly crowd sought to ruin a solid match by loudly counting down every single minute from 10 seconds, Royal Rumble style. At one point it was so bad that even the wrestlers could be heard on camera commenting on it.

1 Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose (FCW TV, 6/24/2012)

Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose (FCW TV, 6/24/2012)

Even before The Shield formed, there were several awesome matches between Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in their FCW days. Fans may know about the proto-Shield triple threat between all three members in developmental, or the epic Ambrose/Rollins feud for the Jack Brisco 15 Title, but there was also this mid-2012 match between the two. Ambrose challenged for the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship, and the result was a 23-minute affair that just might be a forgotten classic.
