Arizona Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith has made some incredible saves and has also been involved in some rather bizarre goals (remember the puck-in-the-pants goal?). Well, Against Pittsburgh last night it was not an incredible save that made all the highlight reels.
From a very early age hockey players are taught not to clear the puck up the middle of the ice and to always try and go up the sides and along the boards. Because when you go up the middle there is more of a chance that bad things will happen. And the above video is exhibit A.
Smith stops the puck behind his net and in an attempt to clear it out of the zone he decides to go up the middle of the ice. Unfortunately for him that is exactly where Penguin forward Brandon Sutter is. Sutter turns around to shield himself from the puck/block it and it goes right off his back and into the empty net.
