On the ice NHL players create their own claim to fame. They are a big deal because it’s their world. A toothless smile and a bushy beard is the name of the game and you can find countless rinks full of women on the sidelines cheering them on. Off the ice players tend to live a more reserved lifestyle and remain quiet about their personal lives. However, much like most professional athletes, they have the ability for women to flock to them so they never really have to work for it. Then, as natural order would have it, fame tends to attract more fame to form one really famous power couple. Out the window goes the secrecy and in comes the red carpet. The WAGs (wives and girlfriends), generally get that exclusive label when they join forces with a high profile athlete. Just this past year, 2015 debuted two different shows solemnly dedicated to these women. ‘WAGS’ on E!, with a variety of different sports the women were married in to, but most importantly ‘Hockey Wives’ on W Network, giving you that inside look of the somewhat glamorous lifestyle.

Despite this, not every WAGs claim to fame is whom they married, but what they have done on their own. These ladies have made a name for themselves in their fields of work ranging from actresses, to models, to singers and more. In some cases they are even more famous than their hockey-playing husbands (gasp). With that, here are the Top 15 NHL WAGs (Past or Present) Who Were More Famous Then Their Partners.

15 Janet Jones (Wayne Gretzky)

Janet Jones is an American actress who made her earliest appearance on Merv Griffin’s TV show Dance Fever back in 1979. From there she continued to act in movies such as Annie, A Chorus Line, and A League of Their Own, with Geena Davis and Madonna. She has also graced the cover and modeled for Playboy magazine. In 1984 Jones met Canadian hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky on the set of Dance Fever when we was acting as a guest judge. To say the rest is history would be an understatement as the couple share a 18,000 square foot home and five children, and to top it all off Janet’s recently been crowned the ‘hottest grandma’. Gretzky may have passed his wife now in terms of popularity but it wasn't always the case, at least south of the border.

14 Willa Ford (Mike Modano)

Willa Ford is a jack of all trades best known for singing, but also a songwriter, dancer, model, television personality and film actress. Her debut album was released in 2001, but she has also posed for Playboy, and been in movies such as ‘Friday the 13th’, and then in 2007 portrayed Anna Nicole Smith in The Anna Nicole Smith Story. She was a celebrity dancer on Dancing with the Stars, and hosted The Ultimate Fighter to name a few. In 2007 the blonde beauty married Mike Modano, the long time face of the Dallas Stars, in a private ceremony in Texas.

Unfortunately they divorced five years later, and she is now expecting her first child with former NFL linebacker Ryan Nece.

13 Keshia Chanté (Ray Emery)

Keshia Chanté is a Canadian singer, who is looking to become more versatile, shifting towards the entertainment industry as a whole. She signed her first record label at the age of 14. In the near decade following she received many awards including the Juno Award for “R&B/Soul Recording of the Year”, Gold record for her debut release, has debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. She has opened up shows for the likes of Destiny’s Child, Alicia Keys, and Kanye West, as well as collaborations with Drake and Ne-Yo.

Back in 2010, she met then Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ray Emery, who won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. Chanté will joining the hierarchy and be on the upcoming season of Hockey Wives.

12 Maripier Morin (Brandon Prust)

Montreal born and bred, Maripier Morin aka MP, is somewhat of a French-Canadian icon. She is a TV host and commentator, newly headlining a popular French morning show. She is one of the original (and most stylish) ladies on Hockey Wives, who faced a long time struggle with girlfriend status before Brandon Prust popped the question after five years last June. Prust and MP met during his stint with the New York Rangers before he signed as a free agent with the Montreal Canadiens (coincidence?).

11 Elisha Cuthbert (Dion Phaneuf)

Miss Elisha Cuthbert is best known for her signature role as America’s sweetheart in The Girl Next Door, despite the face she is Canadian. Cuthbert is a successful actress who was in 2005’s remake of House of Wax, and has also starred in: Love Actually, Old School, and will be in the upcoming sequel to Goon. In 2013 she was named Maxim magazine's “most beautiful woman on TV”. Cuthbert is quite known for her attraction to the boys on ice and dated NHL player Sean Avery for almost two years before she started seeing and later married, Dion Phaneuf, who is currently with the Ottawa Senators. The two quietly spend their summers on Prince Edward Island.

10 Kristi Yamaguchi (Bret Hedican)

Krisit Yamaguchi is arguably one of the most famous faces of women's figure skating ever. She is an Olympic Champion, Two-time World Champion, U.S. Champion and Dancing with the Stars Champion. Yamaguchi toured with Stars on ice for ten years, and during that time was inducted into the World Skating Hall of Fame and the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame.

In 2008, Yamaguchi married retired hockey player Bret Hedican who she had met at the 1992 Winter Olympics when he was playing for Team USA. In 2006 he won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes, before retiring in 2009.

9 Gena Lee Nolin (Cale Hulse)

Blonde bombshell Gena Lee Nolin became one of Bob Barkers beauties in 1994 when she appeared on his game show The Price Is Right. Shortly after, her career on screen took her to the soap opera The Young and the Restless, but above all she starred as Neely Capshaw in Baywatch alongside Pamela Anderson. She has modeled for men’s magazines such as Maxim and Playboy, and in October 2013 published her first book, “Beautiful Inside and Out, Conquering Thyroid Disease with a Happy, Healthy, Thyroid Sexy Life”. Nolin married retired defenseman Cale Hulse back in 2004 in Arizona and the couple has two children together.

Noureen DeWulf is a cast member of W Network's Hockey Wives, but whose day job is on your film and TV screen. Her debut short film she acted in, West Bank Story, turned into a Academy Award winning film. Since then she had appeared in box office hits such as Ocean's Thirteen, The Back-Up Plan and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. She co-starred in Anger Management with Charlie Sheen and in 2009 was listed on the “Top 30 Under 30” for Nylon magazine.

In 2011 she married NHL goalie Ryan Miller who at the time was playing for the Buffalo Sabres, but since then he has moved on to the Vancouver Canucks. They welcomed their first baby together last March.

Cameron met her husband, Russian hockey player Valeri Bure (yes, Pavel’s brother), at a charity hockey game. They married in 1996 and have had three children together.

Hilary Rhoda is a brunette beauty with piercing blue eyes that is the face of the iconic skin care brand Estée Lauder. The 29-year-old model has appeared on the covers of Vogue, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, and Harpers Bazaar. She has been named on Forbes list of The World’s Top Earning Supermodels and appears regularly in the pages of Sports Illustrated. In 2013 the supermodel announced her engagement to former professional hockey player Sean Avery who has also dabbled in fashion, interning at Vogue in the summer of 2008. Avery ended his hockey career with the New York Rangers. The pair married finally in 2015 in an outdoor ceremony.

Hilary Duff is a singer and actress, and one of the few teen Disney actors who never went off the deep end. She starred in the television series Lizzie McGuire for four years and has released multiple albums, which have landed on the Billboard 200. She has appeared in movies such as Cheaper by the Dozen, A Cinderella Story and Agent Cody Banks. Duff is a New York Times bestselling author and involves herself in various philanthropic endeavors.

In the summer of 2007 Duff married Mike Comrie who bounced around between teams including the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders. In 2012 they welcomed their one and only child before announcing their separation in 2014, with the divorce finalizing just this year.

4 Erin Andrews (Jarret Stoll)

Erin Andrews is a sportscaster for Fox Sports, FOX College Football, and Dancing with the Stars. She previously made a name for herself on ESPN over a span of eight years, and has worked as a contributor for Good Morning America. She is the spokesperson of Kraft Foods hunger campaign and most recently was involved in a scary stalker incident in 2009 where a peeping tom filmed her in her hotel room, which then went viral. In March the case was finally settled and Andrews was awarded $55 million in her civil lawsuit. Along side her for support was boyfriend and professional NHLer Jarret Stoll of the Minnesota Wild. Previously he was a member of the Los Angeles Kings organization where he won two Stanley Cups.

3 Barbie Blank (Sheldon Souray)

Barbie Blank is a bikini model turned television personality. However, she is BEST know for her work in the WWE as the Diva Kelly Kelly, in which she impersonated for six years. She was featured on WWE Monday Night Raw, as well as WWE Smackdown. She has been featured on the Maxim Hot 100 list and has been featured on the cover in 2011, and later on the cover of the calendar in 2013.

Blank is currently a cast member of WAGS, and married to the retired Sheldon Souray who most recently was a member of the Anaheim Ducks. Souray was best known for his heavy slap shot.

Julianne Hough is an actress, singer, and dancer. She was a longtime member of the cast of Dancing with the Stars and two-time mirror ball champion. She has been nominated for Emmy’s in Outstanding Choreography and landed the leading role of the Footloose remake in 2011. Hough recently portrayed Sandy on the TV production of Greece, and subsequently has brought home awards at the Academy of Country Music Awards.

In 2014, it was revealed that she had been dating then Washington Capitals center Brooks Laich who is now apart of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The duo announced their engagement last August.

She has sold over 58 million records around the world, including 21 #1 hits, and has taken home over 100 major awards for her work. She was the first female entertainer to be named the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year for two years in a row, and has been declared a certified Platinum artist. Underwood is married to outdoorsman Mike Fisher, of the Nashville Predators. They started dating in 2009, and were married in 2010 with their first son following in 2015.
