Dominion is NJPW's second-biggest show of the year behind only Wrestle Kingdom. This year, the headlining match for Dominion was Jay White challenging Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Going into the match, Jay White had 3 wins over Okada and just one loss to the Rainmaker. Now, he has 4 wins over his rival and a brand new championship to go with it.

In fact, he has a bit of a knack for doing so. His first major upset win was against Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Championship in 2018. His second was over Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship back in 2019. Now, in 2022, Jay White has shocked the world again by defeating one of the greatest champions NJPW has ever seen.

The Switchblade Era

With this victory, Jay White has become the fifth IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. He is also the first wrestler to have held the NEVER Openweight Championship, the IWGP US Championship, the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, and now the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Jay White's accolades are even more impressive when accompanied by the reminder that he isn't even 30 years old yet. At such a young age and at the head of NJPW's most powerful faction, the Bullet Club, the world is truly this new champion's oyster.

What This Means For Forbidden Door

Hangman Page called out Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Now that Okada has dropped the belt, their match is up in the air. After his match, Jay White mocked the former AEW World Champion and told him he's welcome to fight Okada, seeing as there's no longer a title opportunity there.

It's unclear what AEW's next move will be. Most likely, it seems that Hangman will either still face Okada in a non-title match, or he will become Jay White's first challenger at Forbidden Door.
