Ring Of Honor's Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view kicked off with Claudio Castagnoli defeating Jonathan Gresham for the Ring of Honor World Championship. The result surprised some, who had expected Gresham's ROH title reign to last a bit longer ... seems like Gresham himself is one of those people.

According to Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp, Gresham had an argument with ROH owner Tony Khan prior to the event. Per Fightful, Gresham felt like he had been disrespected and was upset at the amount of time allocated for his match with Castagnoli. Gresham reportedly asked to be released from his contract during this meeting, although whether his request was granted remains unclear.

Gresham allegedly left the venue after his match and word from his camp is that he'll be taking a break from the business of professional wrestling for the foreseeable future. After his match last night, Gresham shut down his Twitter profile.

Gresham's reign as ROH champ began when he defeated Jay Lethal last December at Final Battle, which was the promotion's last pay-per-view before it went on a hiatus. During the hiatus, All Elite Wrestling president Tony Khan purchased ROH (and its coveted tape library). Back in April, Fightful reported that Gresham had signed a contract with AEW.

Tony Khan ROH

As we covered, Tony Khan announced his acquisition of ROH in the opening segment of the March 2 edition of AEW Dynamite on TBS. During the post-AEW Revolution media scrum on Sunday, March 6, Khan confirmed that he will be booking Ring Of Honor moving forward.

Death Before Dishonor -- the second ROH pay-per-view of the Tony Khan era -- went down at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusets on Saturday, July 23.
