AEW star Kenny Omega just relinquished the AAA Mega Championship, which means "The Belt Collector" no longer has any belts!

AAA's Dorian Roldan took to social media on Monday, November 22 to announce that Omega was vacating the AAA Mega Championship in order to undergo multiple surgeries on various injuries and ailments.

As we reported, Omega has been wrestling for some time with a shoulder injury and recently revealed that he has been suffering regular bouts of vertigo during his matches since 2018.

Omega's sabbatical means he will no longer be defending the title against El Hijo del Vikingo at AAA TripleMania Regia on December 4. Instead, a replacement will be announced on Tuesday, November 23. Vikingo and Omega's replacement will compete for the vacant championship.

Omega became AAA Mega Champion when he defeated his AEW colleague Rey Fenix on October 19, 2019 at AAA's Heroes Inmortales 13 event in the Coliseo La Concordia in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico. Despite being champ for over two years, Omega only defended the title five times, most recently against Andrade El Idolo TripleMania 29 back in August.

When his match with Andrade at TripleMania went down, Omega held three championships from three separate promotions. As well as the AAA Mega Championship, he also held the Impact World Championship and the AEW World Championship. A few days after successfully defending the AAA Mega Championship against Andrade, Omega lost the Impact title to Christian Cage on the debut episode of AEW Rampage, leaving him with two belts to his name.

In case you missed it, Omega's 346-day reign as AEW World Champion came to an end when he was defeated by his former tag team partner Hangman Page at Full Gear on Saturday, November 13, which put an end to his belt collector gimmick. Omega won the gold from Jon Moxley at Winter Is Coming in December of 2020.
