It's starting to feel like Tony Khan has a huge announcement pertaining to AEW's future to make every single week. At least this week, the AEW owner got a little inventive when it came to the reveal. Khan walked out onto the stage, introduced the New Japan president, and at that point, the segment was hijacked by Adam Cole. Due to his connections to Japanese wrestling, Cole deemed it appropriate to announce the upcoming supershow himself.

AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door

On June 26, 2022, AEW and NJPW will team up for a show that has been dubbed Forbidden Door. No matches for the show have been announced just yet, but it's assumed most, if not every match on the card will feature AEW stars versus their New Japan counterparts. That has led to wrestlers on both sides making their proverbial vision boards public in an attempt to get themselves booked on the show.

One of the first wrestlers to try and make something happen is Kenta. The New Japan star, who WWE fans might know as Hideo Itami, is pushing for a match against CM Punk. Almost immediately after the supershow was confirmed, Kenta tweeted “GIVE ME #G2SvsGTS”. The Japanese star then doubled down by posting a photo where CM Punk's head has been pasted over John Wick's and he has guns surrounding him, coupled with the caption “NO WAY OUT”.

The Battle Of The Go To Sleep

This one would really be a dream match, and not just for Kenta. Both Punk and Kenta have used the Go To Sleep as their finisher for the bulk of their careers. Fans have argued who exactly used the move first, but the consensus on that one appears to be largely in favor of Kenta. A back and forth between the two where both are desperate to be the first to hit the move would really be something should this match be allowed to happen.

There are plenty of fascinating match-ups to potentially be made here, depending on who exactly from New Japan will be making the trip. The biggest fish of all is, of course, Kazuchika Okada. There's even the possibility that Okada and Kenny Omega get the chance to continue their series. Those matches are considered to be among the greatest of all time by many wrestling fans. Suffice to say, it's going to be a pretty special show.
