Kurt Angle has revealed both he and Miro were trying to make a dream match happen in WWE long before the Hall of Famer had even returned.

Kurt Angle returned to WWE in 2017 so that he could be inducted into the company's Hall of Fame. The gold medalist wanted to wrestle, but WWE appeared reluctant to let that happen, at least at first. Angle would eventually return to the ring for WWE, but his schedule was more limited than he might have wanted it to be.

Kurt Angle vs. Rusev

In fact, Angle recently revealed to Wrestling Inc. that he was lobbying for an in-ring return long before he re-debuted as an honorary member of The Shield. The Hall of Famer explained that both he and Miro, who was still Rusev at the time, were lobbying for a dream match. However, WWE didn't deem Angle healthy enough to return to the ring at the time.

“At the time we wanted it to occur, WWE wasn’t looking at me. They wanted to see if I could stay out of trouble for a couple more years,” Angle explained. “I got one too many DUIs and had a problem with alcohol and painkillers. Fortunately, I got myself through that, and cleaned up my act.”

Too Late In 2017

Angle adds by the time he returned in 2017 and did eventually wrestle, he wasn't in the sort of shape that would have done the match justice. Both he and Miro have left the company since with The Bulgarian setting up shop in AEW. He's the TNT Champion right now and is yet to be beaten in singles competition, similar to the unbeaten run he enjoyed during his debut year on WWE's main roster.

Fans hoping there might be a chance the two of them face off in AEW might want to look away now. Angle recently revealed Tony Khan has made him multiple offers to come and wrestle but the former WWE Champion has turned them all down. It sounds as if even though Angle didn't get the fairytale ending he wanted and deserved in WWE, he is listening to his body and knows even one more run probably isn't worth it at this point.
