Lio Rush has taken to social media to reveal he will be a free agent next month, and it appears he is keen on leaving AEW.

The 27-year-old disclosed that his contract with AEW will expire on February 14, also leaving an email address for persons wishing to book him. “On February 22, my contract will expire with AEW and I will become a free agent,” he tweeted on Saturday morning.

Rush hasn’t wrestled for AEW since December 8, when he participated in a Dynamite Diamond Battle Royal. He featured in one of the bigger stories alongside Dante Martin, feuding with Team Taz, but it appears the gig has been dropped, and he hasn’t appeared anywhere for AEW recently.

There had been questions over his standing with the company since he lashed out at Tony Khan, demanding an apology from the promotion’s president over the situation involving Big Swole. The latter criticized AEW’s handling of black talent, noting she didn’t see any execs who look like her while she was there.

“What happens is, you have this wonderful company that treats people like family, but there is nobody that looks like me that is represented at the top and in the room with them. They are not helping to necessarily influence decisions, but to explain why certain slang and certain word shouldn’t be said. There is no one else who can explain our culture and experience except for us,” she said on her “Swole World” podcast.

Khan fired back after the comments on Twitter, prompting Rush to have a go at him.

Rush subsequently claimed that the row had smoothed over, but he has been left out of company programming nonetheless. It is unknown whether the controversy has anything to do with his impending departure.

The wrestler, who is also under contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling, is set to take part in the Brass Ring Ladder Match during Sunday’s The WRLD on GCW at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
