Lucha Underground took the wrestling world by storm in 2014. The wrestling promotion perfectly blended the cinematic feel of a television show and Lucha libre. The company was able to find success because they embraced the dramatics of being a cinematic wrestling show with wrestlers having powers, pre-taped dramatic segments that furthered storylines that could not be done live, and they had a rabid fanbase that created a unique atmosphere.

Fenix wrestled in all four seasons of the show and joined AEW when the company discontinued. In AEW, his brother Pentagon and himself won the AEW Tag Team Championship in a classic match against The Young Bucks.

Isaiah "Swerve" Scott was one of the biggest highlights of NXT in 2021. Scott was part of the NXT group, Hit Row, which was beloved by fans over for their authenticity and path to stardom. Scott was the best wrestler out of the group, winning the NXT North American Championship, and looked to be a megastar for WWE for years to come until the company released the group (B-Fab a week earlier) right after calling them up to SmackDown. However, in Lucha Underground, he helped build his name up under the name "Killshot," a military vet turned wrestler.
