Mickie James is a legend of women’s wrestling. She made waves within the last year, winning her fourth Impact Wrestling Knockouts Championship at Bound For Glory, and went on to cross “the forbidden door” and make a WWE Royal Rumble appearance with that title in tow, and her Impact entrance music. However, if her Twitter is to be believed, James may have actually hung up her wrestling boots for good at this time.

Mickie James Seems To Say She’s Retired

Mickie James Royal Rumble 2022

Monday afternoon, before the announcement of the bracket for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament, a Twitter user asked James if she would be Asuka’s partner to compete for the vacant title. James responded, “No. I feel I’m done in wrestling.”

In a business that has made a spectacle out of events like Ric Flair’s Last Match and other retirement angles, this is a conspicuously quiet way for James to finish her career. Just the same, after she tacked on a noteworthy Royal Rumble guest appearance after her lackluster previous run with WWE, and after she was heavily featured in Impact Wrestling, it may make sense enough for the star, who turns 43 later this month, to call it a career.

What Is The Legacy Of Mickie James In Wrestling

Mickie James Vs. Trish Stratus

If Mickie James is done in professional wrestling, she leaves behind a career chock-full of accomplishments and memorable performances. Long-time fans will always remember her provocative introductory program in WWE opposite Trish Stratus that culminated in quite arguably the greatest pre-Revolution women’s WrestleMania match of all time. That’s not to mention noteworthy rivalries with the likes of Lita, Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix, Melina, and others. From there, she went on what many would call an even better run in Impact Wrestling, working ahead-of-their-time programs with Tara, Madison Rayne, and a host of other talents.

As a capstone of sorts, James served as an executive producer for NWA Empowerrr, a well-received all-women’s event.

While it’s a shame for fans not to know they were seeing Mickie James work her farewell tour or last match, it may well be for the best that she’s opted to, instead, make a quiet, graceful exit. With six title wins in WWE, four in Impact Wrestling, and a host of strong matches at a time before women’s wrestling was as celebrated as it is today, James is a bona fide legend who should certainly rank among the top women’s inductees in the WWE Hall of Fame one day.
