UFC star Conor McGregor tweeted today, the 19th, that he has "decided to retire young".
This comes one week after Joao Carvalho died from injuries sustained in a fight earlier this month for which McGregor was in attendance.
The 27-year-old Featherweight Champion is scheduled to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 200 in a rematch of their fight from UFC 196 where Diaz upset McGregor.
McGregor posted the following to his Facebook account last week following Carvalho's death.
"To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking."
Could this be a reason why he'd want to step away from the sport in his prime?
McGregor has yet to clarify his tweet. He could mean that he is simply going to retire by 30 years old, but UFC fans everywhere are holding their breath, hoping they haven't seen the last of Conor McGregor in the octagon.
