How is CM Punk Progressing as an MMA Fighter?

It seems that CM Punk's progression as an MMA fighter isn't going smoothly. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that CM Punk is not progressing well as a fighter despite his intensive training. Punk has participated in sparring sessions and there have been rumors that he has not fared well in those sessions.

In addition to his progress as a fighter, staying healthy has been an issue for Punk, as we knew. UFC was hoping for Punk to debut last fall, but injuries caused a delay. The plan was then for Punk to debut at UFC 199 on June 4th in Los Angeles, but back surgery put the brakes on that one.

The Observer also mentioned that the consensus is Punk will be no match for his first scheduled opponent, Mickey Gall. The UFC has kept quiet and Punk has kept a low profile. It's well known that a rookie fighter like Punk was signed for media attention and one has to wonder on Punk's MMA future if a fight doesn't happen soon.
