Police Seeking Arrest Warrant For Jon Jones

It's been a tumultuous year, outside of the octagon for UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and now may be his worst moment yet. Jones is wanted by Albuquerque police in connection with a hit-and-run and was still at large as of Monday morning, officials said.

The champion is wanted for questioning by police in Albuquerque regarding a hit-and-run incident which left a pregnant woman hospitalized Sunday morning.

“We’re just trying to get in touch with him to ask him some questions,” an Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson told the Guardian. “For whatever reason he hasn’t made contact with us. We’re not really sure where it’s going to go from here.”

The pregnant woman suffered minor injuries in the incident while she was driving another vehicle.

The UFC has issued a statement regarding the incident saying, "“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”

This isn't merely a blip on his record. Jon Jones has a checkered history. He tested positive for cocaine a month before his title defense earlier this year against Daniel Cormier. Jones was checked into rehab, but reportedly left after just one night. Jones has also plead guilty to a misdemeanor DWI in 2012 when he crashed his car into a telephone pole in upstate New York.

Jones is scheduled to defend his title on May 23 at UFC 187 against Anthony Johnson. The UFC has yet to announce any changes to the card, but that could soon be up in the air.

Albuquerque police are seeking an arrest warrant from a judge, as Jones is now facing a felony, as the victim was found to have a broken arm. A conviction for a felony hit-and-run carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and fines.

Jones was originally wanted for questioning when multiple witnesses, including an off-duty officer, saw a man presumed to be Jones, fleeing the scene of the accident, but not before the man turned back to grab some cash before leaving the scene. Police also found a marijuana pipe with marijuana inside it upon searching a silver Buick SUV that Jones was alleged to be driving.
