Mauro Ranallo has been announced as the play-by-play commentator for the upcoming super-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
The boxing and MMA worlds will collide when Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor meet in the squared circle on August 26th, so Showtime have called upon a man with experience calling both sports to give a voice to the action. As reported by both MMA Junkie and sportingnews.com, play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo will do the honors of calling the match later this summer.
Wrestling fans will know Mauro from his time as lead announcer on SmackDown Live, but his brief foray into wrestling is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Ranallo's career. Before he was hired by WWE and since he left, Mauro has called a multitude of fights, both in the ring and the octagon. Considering his experience with both competitors' backgrounds coupled with his instantly recognizable voice he was seemingly the number one candidate for the job.
MMA Junkie also listed the rest of the announce team that will join Mauro on August 26th. Brian Custer, Al Bernstein, Paul Maglianaggi, Jim Gray, and Steve Farhood will all be joining Mauro in some way, shape or form on the night, as well as some guest commentators who will reportedly be present to share some MMA analysis.
As previously mentioned Mauro was under the employ of WWE up until recently and was very popular among fans, especially after his controversial departure from the company. The play by play expert was allegedly subjected to bullying from fellow announcer John Bradshaw Layfield and that coupled with his mental health issues led to him having to part ways with the company. His addition to the broadcast of Mayweather versus McGregor will only bring more eyeballs than are already promised to the fight with wrestling fans tuning in for his analysis.
Floyd Mayweather confirmed that the long awaited fight between himself and Conor McGregor was finally on earlier this week when he posted an image advertising the bout on his social media. While McGregor is an MMA star, the match will be contested under boxing rules. It will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26th and for even more information on what is being billed as the fight of the century then head here.
