Fans hoping to see boxing legend Floyd Mayweather jump in the octagon of UFC will be disappointed to hear his comments on the matter.

“I never said I was going to fight in the UFC. I didn’t say that,” Mayweather said via a hit on MMA Weekly). “I said if I wanted to and what I could do. I’m not going to do it though.”

With one quick sentence, Floyd Mayweather shot down any rumors of him shocking the MMA world and joining UFC for a reportedly record-breaking multi-fight contract. It was originally reported by UFC commentator, Joe Rogan that Mayweather was looking for a UFC deal. Rogan explained that he text UFC President Dana White and asked if the rumors were true, to which White responded, “Yeah, I told him he’s fu*&ing crazy, but he wants to do it anyways.”

With that, things were off and running.

After the word started to spread and MMA fans started to envision what a Mayweather fight might look like in the UFC, Mayweather swiftly disappointed fans. The reality is, Floyd Mayweather is never coming to UFC. The recently retired boxing legend is going to stay retired and understands he has a lot to lose should he try his hand in an industry he’s the considerable underdog.

Mayweather used the interview with FightHype to set the record straight. He explained, “That’s not what I said. Exactly what I said is this, if I made a billion dollars before, I could do it again. If I chose to get in the UFC and fight three fights or fight four fights and then fight Conor McGregor, I could make a million dollars, which I can. I can do it in three fights or even four fights, I could make a billion dollars if I choose to get into the Octagon and fight.”

Mayweather doesn’t know what the future holds for his professional fight career. He could do absolutely nothing and have a hard time spending the money he’s made to date. Wisely, Mayweather realizes that he’s got enough cash not to risk his legacy in an MMA fight he would certainly lose.

McGregor wasn’t a fan of the news calling him a “p*ssy”.
