Dana White made a surprise announcement on last night's edition of SportsCenter on ESPN. The UFC president announced that the Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm fight - which had been scheduled to headline UFC 195 on January 2nd - will now be the main event on November 15th in Melbourne, Australia at UFC 193.
"Ronda Rousey was huge for us in Brazil," said White. "She was well received there and it was just a phenomenal event. It did very well on Pay-Per-View here in the United States, and she's obviously a huge superstar for us. Australia's an important market for us, so we're gonna bring her out there in our first real big stadium show, and we know she'll break the record out there."
If we are being honest, I was pretty surprised when the announcement was originally made that Rousey vs. Holm wouldn't be a part of UFC 193. I didn't quite understand how the first big stadium show for the UFC could not feature the biggest star in MMA. So, this does make sense to me.
However, for those of you getting excited for a Rousey/Holm and Lawler/Condit card at UFC 193, I'm going to have to burst your bubble on that one. You see, the reason this is happening is because Robbie Lawler has injured his thumb and has been pulled from the card.
