Top 20 Least Consistent Finishers in the UFC Rankings

For a fight fan, seeing a great finish in a fight is like seeing a great home run or an awesome touchdown pass. It just adds that little something extra to the viewing experience. Yet there are those who prefer to grind out a victory using strong wrestling skills or clench work. Sometimes the fighter has back and forth battles with his opponent leading to him having numerous decision victories. These fighters may get a finish every once in a while, but fans do not really expect it of them. These are the fighters that even Jon Fitch would say “damn you’re boring.” With that in mind, here is a list ranking the least consistent finishers from the current UFC rankings as of October 30th.

Guidelines for how the rankings were compiled:

A fighter must have five wins in the UFC (Wins in WEC do not count for this list)

The ranking is done by percentage of wins that come from a finish (12 finishes out of 20 wins equals a finish percentage of 60%, for example)

In the case of a tie the person with fewer finishes receives higher placing in the rankings

If it is still a tie, then it will be marked as a tie between the fighters.

Out of 135 possible fighters from nine divisions who could make the list, only 81 met the minimum qualifications of five UFC wins. Most notably, since the division is fairly new, no fighters in the Women’s Bantamweight division made the cut, though a few were close like Rhonda Rousey. The Women’s Strawweight division was not considered as there is no official ranking for it yet. The division with the most eligible fighters was the Featherweight division with 14 fighters, followed by the Heavyweight division with 13, while the Flyweight division had only five.

Was this any surprise? Since coming to the UFC after its acquisition of WEC, Ben Henderson has been the epitome of a point fighter. With decisions over Frankie Edgar, Gilbert Melendez, and Clay Guida, he has proven time and time again that while his style works, it leaves much to be desired. What makes it slightly worse is that many of his fights end up being close enough to be controversial. Fans constantly debate whether or not he really did enough to win the fight, especially his title fights against Edgar and Melendez.
