Ronda Rousey is an all-round fighting machine, plain and simple. She’s a skilled judoka, rose to fame because of her exploits at the 2008 Olympic games, and then rose to superstardom as a mixed martial artist. She’s regarded to be one of the best fighters around – was once one of the most dominant female athletes full stop – and made women’s MMA a huge business; Ronda can be credited for bringing a hell of a lot to the sport. Put her acting into the mix and add in her other ventures and interests outside of the octagon, and she’s a celebrity in her own right – she’s achieved a status that very few women in the world of MMA - very few guys as well – have managed to achieve.

Ronda’s totally committed to MMA and leads that whole lifestyle of a top pro athlete. But she’s a colorful figure, and gets up to all sorts in her life outside of the octagon. She’s also very open when it comes to interviews, divulging information about herself, and expressing views on certain matters. It means she’s always in the news for something or other – she’s brought a great deal of entertainment to the sport.

There have been highs and there have been lows in Ronda’s life, and these are some pictures that depict some of these moments; 8 pictures she wants you to see, and 7 she wishes could be eradicated from all corners of the world wide web.

15 15. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Living The Dream

When she was growing up, Ronda never laid in bed at night dreaming about dominating the world of women’s MMA. She started getting into judo, became a decorated judoka, then basically got into MMA because after retiring from judo, she didn’t want to work a conventional job.

But growing up, she did have one fantasy, a fantasy that was fulfilled and became a reality in 2015. That fantasy was to be involved in the world of professional wrestling. She’s always been a huge wrestling fan; in fact her nickname, Rowdy, is from one of her favorite wrestlers, the late great Rowdy Roddy Piper. She actually asked his permission to use the name.

She was involved in an entertaining segment with The Rock at WrestleMania 31, and has since hinted at a return to the ring. Fans would love to see that, and because her MMA career’s in limbo at the moment, we could see more and more of Ronda in WWE in the future.

14 14. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: The Weigh-In Brawl

In addition to all of Ronda’s exploits in the octagon, she’s brought a lot of attention and a whole new fan base to women’s MMA, due to her trash talking in the run-up to her fights. She’s said she runs her mouth in an effort to gain more publicity, but it must also have something to do with wanting to rile up her opponents, and on occasions, it’s worked.

Ronda suffered her first loss at the hands of Holly Holm in 2015. But the cracks had already begun to appear before they stepped into the octagon. At the pre-fight weigh-in, Ronda charged at Holly with her fists and attempted to tackle her to the ground. Dana White was on hand to simmer things down, and although it was probably all for the hype, all for publicity, it wasn’t professional conduct befitting the champion at the time.

13 13. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Sizzling Hot Pics

Today, plenty of people go about trying to shame their exes by posting pics of themselves online. It’s an abhorrent thing to do, and Ronda almost suffered that fate too, but chose to do something about it before anything got posted.

Ronda entertains the fans and media, but one thing she likes to keep under wraps, as much as possible, is her private life. So, when she caught her boyfriend at the time sneakily taking nude pics of her, she wasn’t best pleased and you wouldn’t be if someone was taking nude pictures of you without your knowledge. But her second thought was that he was going to post them online. So what did she do? She decided that the only nude pics of her on the web would be the ones she wanted to post; beautiful and classy pics she wanted people to see. So she posed nude for the ESPN Body Issue addition, and looked absolutely stunning.

12 12. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: Disastrous Holly Holm Defeat

Before November 2015, people thought Ronda was unstoppable. She’d risen to the top with ease, decimating her opponents, and many people tipped her to do the same when she came up against Holly Holm in Melbourne. But it didn’t go according to plan, and Ronda left Australia with her tail between her legs, utterly shocked, not only because she had suffered her first defeat in the pro ranks, but because of the manner of the defeat.

Ronda just didn’t have an answer to Holly’s striking, which was superior from the get go, and was knocked out in the second round as a result of a high kick and a flurry of punches to the face. She was in such a bad state after the defeat, she was even medically suspended by UFC, and took a year to recover – mentally – before returning at UFC 207.

11 11. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Her Acting Career

In today’s day and age, if you’re an athlete at the top of your game, have a huge fan following, have something about you personality wise, and are adept at bringing a touch of razzmatazz to your sport and events, there’re plenty of opportunities to be had pursuing other ventures.

Ronda has the whole package, and because of this, plenty of opportunities in the movie industry have come her way – some have been developed just for Ronda. She’ll be mightily proud about what she’s managed to achieve in Hollywood, but also because she’s shared the screen with some massive names. She’s appeared in the film, Furious 7, and also managed to get an acting gig in The Expendables 3 2014 movie, during which she shared screen time with Hollywood megastar, Sylvester Stallone, and gave quite a decent performance too.

10 10. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: High School Pic

When people come into the limelight and become world famous celebs, it’s the media’s job to go snooping around, trying to get pics of that person in uncompromising positions, or of that person’s past, from their younger days. It’s not uncommon for a school day pic to surface, and that’s what happened in Ronda’s case. It’s not that it’s a really bad pic, it’s just that it’s probably embarrassing for Ronda – as all school pics tend to be – hence she wouldn’t want you to see it. Those school days also couldn’t have been the easiest time for Ronda, as she had apraxia during childhood and needed to visit a speech therapist growing up. So, times couldn’t have been easy, hence she wouldn’t want people to know about and remind her of those younger days.

9 9. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Body Transformation

After her shock defeat to Holly Holm, a number of things happened to Ronda which resulted in her being out of action for a year. She needed a long time away from the sport in order to get her head together and evaluate her future. Understandably around this low point in her career, training, diet and looking fab weren’t things on her priority list. So, she put on quite a bit of weight and really didn’t look great, but when the date was set and negotiations had been completed for her to take on Nunes, she began her preparations for fight night. Sure, she’s a pro athlete, but even so, from where she was, that body transformation was remarkable.

She once again became the mean fighting machine we all know and love – although her awesome physical shape didn’t help her on the night itself, she must look at those pics and be proud of the transformation.

8 8. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: Pre-Fight Antics

Wow! The media must have had a field day when she came out with this one, but it’s also why we love her and the sport needs a character like Ronda. When most athletes are asked to divulge info of their pre-fight preparation, most just say the standard things – train hard, eat right, blah blah blah. Of course, Ronda does those things too, but there’s something else she does in the leadup to a fight, and that’s having lots and lots of sex. Most athletes, especially fighters, whether it be boxers or MMA competitors, actually refrain from having sex before fights, because it means they can be more aggressive, that they’re full of tension on fight night, and can unload all of that on their opponents.

But Ronda goes the other way. For women, having sex raises testosterone levels – albeit a small amount – so Ronda has plenty before a fight. She’s been quite open about it, although I’m sure she wouldn’t actually want you to see picks of her playfully implying that with a friend.

7 7. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Building Women's Division

Not too long ago, UFC comprised of all-male athletes. UFC president, Dana White, wasn’t really into women in the UFC, but thanks to Ronda, his views have changed.

Ronda was actually the first female fighter to get a contract with the UFC, which happened back in 2012. She was also given the Women's Bantamweight title, which she's proudly holding in this picture. Since then, more and more fighters have followed suit, and Ronda can be credited for that change. She can also be credited for bringing a whole new fan base, a new level of popularity to women’s MMA and the sport in general; she’s a sex symbol, a media personality, and is a fighting machine - who wouldn’t want to watch Ronda do what she does best?

Dana once vowed never to promote female fighters in the UFC, but Ronda being, ‘the biggest star they’ve had’, has changed his viewpoint.

6 6. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: Second Defeat

There was so much hype going into Ronda’s latest fight with the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion, Amanda Nunes. With Amanda being the champion, and Ronda being a megastar in UFC and having been out of action for over a year, plenty billed it to be a great clash. Amanda was looking to make her first title defence, and Ronda was looking to put those dark days that followed in the aftermath of her defeat to Holly Holm well and truly behind her and get back to her winning ways. But it didn’t go according to plan for Ronda. A flurry of punches just 48 seconds into the first round meant she lost via TKO; the woman previously deemed to be an unstoppable force had succumbed to her second successive defeat, and it’s left her contemplating her future in the sport.

5 5. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Book Signing

I’m sure when Ronda wrote her book, she didn’t think it would have the impact and affect people the way it has. It’s touched one person alright, and that person’s Laura Smith, a speech pathologist from Denver, Colorado.

Laura didn’t really know a thing about MMA. But she knew Ronda was a star, and happened to come across an interview she did where she revealed she had a speech impediment as a kid. From the way Ronda was describing what she went through, Laura recognized that she may have had apraxia, something her own five-year-old daughter has. She wanted to reach out to Ronda, so, after failed attempts of getting in touch with her online, she bought a book, got tickets, and went to the star’s book signing in Denver, bringing her daughter along too. Her daughter went up to get her book signed, Ronda asked her her name, but didn’t understand due to the little girl’s speech impediment. Laura stepped in and told Ronda about her daughter’s difficulties, and how Ronda was an inspiration to her and many others like her. She asked the star if she had apraxia, then took out a pamphlet and gave it to her. The bodyguards began to come in, but Ronda motioned to them to stop, and agreed that she’d now talk about her speech impediment as apraxia, in an effort to raise awareness. She posted the pamphlet online later that very day, and Laura and her little girl were very touched – a simple thing like that made a whole heap of difference.

4 4. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: Partying

I’ve mentioned how Ronda likes to have a good time when she's not in her training camp, but this may be an image the former Bantamweight Champion may regret taking. While there's nothing wrong with enjoying some beverages with friends and her buddy appears to be enjoying some hookah, it's not a very flattering image for someone who built herself as a role model and who up until late 2015, looked invincible. This pic took place back in 2011 though, which was a little before Rousey's UFC run really began to pick up steam. She was still in her Strikeforce days here, so perhaps she wasn't as concerned about a picture like this hitting the web. She definitely wasn't the mega star in 2011 that she would be just a few years later.

3 3. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Judo Career

Ronda’s career and training as a martial artist began with judo. But she didn’t just dabble in a bit of judo before making the leap to MMA; she was a highly-decorated judoka before embarking on her MMA career.

Her mom was also a decorated judoka, and it’s her that got Ronda practising the martial art. Just six years after starting her training, she qualified for the 2004 Olympics, and after that, she went on her merry way rising to the top of the rankings and winning gold after gold at various competitions. She won bronze at the next Olympics, and then turned all her attention to MMA, but her time as a judoka is no doubt a period she’ll remember with fondness, and she wouldn’t want others to forget all her achievements during that period either.

2 2. DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE: Crying On The Ellen Show

This just shows that Ronda does have feelings, that she does have a soft side to her personality and that she’s not a machine and has faced difficulties in her private life. She divulged some of these difficulties when she appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show; she told Ellen during the interview about her feelings in the immediate aftermath of the Holly Holm defeat. Apparently when she was brought to the medical room after the fight, she felt she couldn’t go on, that she was nothing if she wasn’t winning UFC fights. She had real suicidal thoughts and was thinking she wanted to end her life, but then she looked up and saw her boyfriend, Travis Browne, and thought she had to stay alive for him.

It seemed during that interview that she probably didn’t want to start crying and tell the world that she had suicidal thoughts, but she just got really emotional, was in the moment, and it came out. Ronda’s a fighter, and she’s certainly fought on since then.

1 1. WANTS YOU TO SEE: Family

Ronda’s a pretty private person when it comes to her relationships and family life, although this may come as a surprise seeing as there’s a ton of pics out there of her with boyfriends and various family members.

Ronda’s incredibly close to her family and has a tight bond with her mom and her two siblings. They share a sisterly bond after growing up together in California and North Dakota, and grew even closer after their dad tragically committed suicide. Ronda’s also close to her half-sister, Julia De Mars, who’s regularly seen accompanying her to various award ceremonies and some of her fights around the globe too. It’s a really strong family dynamic and a strong support network she must have, and one thinks that at the moment, she’ll need their support and love more than ever before.
