Throughout Impact's history, one of the promotion's biggest calling cards is how impressive its tag team division has been over the years. With the likes of Beer Money, Team 3D, and LAX, the company has seen some all-time great teams make an impact, pun intended, over the last 20 years, but the Motor City Machine Guns are arguably the greatest tag team of them all. And if they aren't, they will be when it's all said and done.

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are one of the most innovative tag teams in the history of the business, and the work they have done together in TNA and various independent promotions revolutionized tag team wrestling. Their work changed the way a lot of modern fans viewed tag team wrestling, and it's largely responsible for the resurgence it has seen in recent years.

With numerous incredible moments, matches, and accolades in Impact, MCMG is easily one of the best tandems the promotion has ever seen, and with their recent reunion, the pair continue building their legendary legacy. As Sabin and Shelley once again show Impact fans how great they are together, and earn new accolades, there will soon be no doubt that they are the great team in Impact history.

They Changed Tag Team Wrestling

When The Motor City Machine Guns were first formed in 2007, tag team wrestling had long been an afterthought in professional wrestling. While there were some great partnerships in the industry, tag team wrestling just wasn't as highly valued as it could have been. The Guns played a huge role in changing that, though.

From day one, the pair were hugely popular with fans. Their innovative offense and fast-paced style instantly got over, and it helped make tag team wrestling feel like must watch to audiences. There hadn't been too many teams who worked as well together as Shelley and Sabin did. Their double-team moves had never been seen before.

Since their debut, tag team wrestling has gone from strength to strength, and you can see the influence the pair have had on wrestlers in the business. The Young Bucks, Dante Martin, and Ricochet are just some of the names that credit Shelley and Sabin as huge influences on their careers.

The pair also made wearing matching ring attire cool again, something not many teams had achieved in quite some time, so there's that.

They Had Incredible Matches With Just About Everybody

Throughout their time in Impact, one thing was certain, The Motor City Machine Guns would always deliver inside the ring. The pair had great matches with just about every other team they faced.

Their matches with the likes of Beer Money, Team 3D, and The Young Bucks are some of the best in Impact history, as well as some of the best tag team matches in the entire wrestling industry, period.

Motor City Machine Guns Vs Beer Money

The pair had a style that just meshed with absolutely everybody they faced off with. They always managed to put on classic bouts, and it played a large role in tag team wrestling rising to the levels of prominence that it has done in recent years. Their matches with Beer Money in particular really helped raise Impact's tag team division to heights no other tag team division in the world could reach at that point in time.

They Managed To Remain One Of The Best Teams In The Company Despite Winning Their Lack Of Accolades

When looking at their body of work, it's actually quite criminal that The Motor City Machine Guns were only tag team champions in Impact twice. Sure, they've won titles in other promotions such as Ring of Honor and New Japan, but despite spending the majority of their time as a team in Impact, they've only been crowned champions twice in the company.

Their lack of title success just makes it even more impressive that they've managed to stay relevant, though. Despite having very little title success, the pair have remained one of the most popular and highly regarded teams in the promotion. A true testament to just how great they are.

What sets the pair apart from the other great teams in Impact's history is the fact they're still active. While Team 3D and Beer Money cemented legendary legacies in Impact, The Guns aren't finished writing theirs yet and who knows, maybe when all is said and done, they'll have a couple more championship reigns under their belt, cementing their place as the greatest tag team in Impact History.
