During the first few press conferences for UFC 196 following Nate Diaz stepping in, McGregor kept on poking fun at Diaz's shape. Repeatedly poking fun and saying he had a "skinny fat" body. The shape of Diaz's body may have been partially due to him taking the fight while on vacation.

Despite UFC President promoting Diaz in the buildup to the bout saying that Diaz had been training for a triathlon, according to Diaz, he was actually on a boat in Cabo, Mexico, with his teammate Gilbert Melendez when he got the call to fight McGregor.

Pancrase is one of MMA's oldest promotions. Having been started in 1993, the Japan-based promotion has been home to many well-known fighters over the years. However, none was bigger than young Nate Diaz in 2005.

20-year-old Nate Diaz made the trip over to Tokyo to fight Koji Oishi in Pancrase for his sophomore outing in MMA. Unfortunately for Diaz, he would lose via unanimous decision. It wound up being the only fight for Diaz in the Japan MMA scene.

Following the bout, Riggs and Nick got into a scuffle in the ambulance on the way, as well as at the hospital itself. It's one of MMA's most insane stories.

However, what is commonly forgotten about the story is that then a 20-year-old Nate Diaz also got into a scuffle with Riggs at the hospital, where they had to be separated.

Diaz went on to defeat Juarez in the first round via knockout, as he fought on the undercard of Frank Shamrock vs Cesar Gracie. In a weird twist of fate, three years later, Nate's brother Nick would go on to retire the aforementioned Shamrock in a passing-of-the-torch fight.

Nate Diaz, throughout his entire career, has always displayed and put up a front of being a gangster, who seemingly spends all of his time outside of UFC smoking weed and occasionally doing jiu-jitsu. While all of that may be true, he apparently has a bit of a sweet side to him as well.

In 2018, Diaz's longtime girlfriend Misty Brown gave birth to a baby girl.

Diaz went 3-1 in the promotion, with wins over Alejandro Garcia, Gilbert Rael, and Joe Hurley. However, unfortunately unlike his brother Nick, he would not capture WEC gold, as he lost his last fight in the promotion to Hermes Franca for the WEC lightweight strap.

Nate Diaz has come a long way.

Coming up from a poor neighborhood to being one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet, Diaz has had quite the come-up story. However, the reason that Diaz began training is largely related to the fact that he was simply hungry.

According to Diaz, the main reason he went training along with his brother Nick to jiu-jitsu classes is that some of the older members of the gym would buy them burritos after class. While he may have gone for the burritos, Diaz ended up being pretty good at that whole jiu-jitsu thing after time.
