Ty Montgomery made the risky decision to return a kickoff with two minutes left in regulation on Sunday, and it wound up costing his Green Bay Packers big time.

Rather than give Aaron Rodgers - the game's best quarterback - a chance to win the game, Montgomery fumbled and the Los Angeles Rams recovered. Green Bay only had one timeout left at that point, so the Rams easily ran out the clock to win the game and move to 8-0.

According to NFL.com's Mike Silver, an anonymous Packer coaches and players revealed that Rodgers was fuming angry at his teammate for botching the opportunity to win the game.

"Aaron was hot. And he had a right to be," one coach said. "He yelled, 'Take a (expletive) knee!' He was very, very mad."

One Packers player claimed that Montgomery "slammed his helmet and threw a fit" when he was taken out of a play. Montgomery was instructed to take a knee on the return, but those demands were completely ignored.

"You know what that was? That was him saying, 'I'm gonna do me.' It's a (expletive) joke," the unnamed player said. "I mean, what the (expletive) are you doing? We've got Aaron Rodgers, the best I've ever seen, and you're gonna take that risk? I mean, it's '12'! All you gotta do is give him the ball, and you know what's gonna happen."

The Packers were this close to handing the Rams their first loss of the season. And seeing how money Rodgers has always been in these situations, logic suggests he would have gone down the field and won this game.

Had Montgomery taken the knee, he would have given Rodgers two minutes to win the game, starting from their own 25-yard line. Big kick returns are rare in today's NFL, so Montgomery had no reason to try and get fancy in that situation.

Whether Rodgers had to start at midfield, the Rams' 30, his own 30 or own 10-yard line, he had more than enough time to get the Packers into field goal range. Rodgers has worked magic like this time and time again, and the football world just wanted to see him get one opportunity to win it.

This Rams-Packers contest was arguably the best of the regular season thus far, with the league's top team playing against the game's best quarterback. It didn't have the Hollywood drama we wanted, unfortunately.

But there's a good chance we'll see these teams play again in January. We're sure Montgomery will take a knee if they meet again.
