The Packers quarterback is putting the interest of the team before his own. After months of failed discussion to renegotiate his contract, the two-time time MVP declared that he has no intentions to screw over the Packers in order to get a big paycheck.

Rodgers five-year, $110 million extension is about to end in two seasons. However, the wish of the Cheeseheads to keep one of the greatest QBs of all times leading their offense for many years and the desire of A-Rod to play for the rest of his professional career with the same team has prompted both parties to look for an extension of his current contract.

Currently, he ranks 10th in the NFL in average money per year, behind quarterbacks like Mathew Stafford, Alex Smith and Andre Luck among others, who are great players but none of them can be compared to Aaron Rodgers. So, he deserves way more money than what he is making. The number twelve should be getting paid more than any other player of the league, but still, he says that the success of his team comes first.

Rodgers said on ESPN Wisconsin's Wilde and Tausch that getting a big contract is not his first goal.

"Obviously, I'd love to finish my career here. But I'm busy right now. I'm being a leader on this team. I'm focused on being the leader of the team. And if nothing gets done, it won't change anything. Because all I'm worried about right now is playing ball."

Moreover, Rodgers declared that he has no intentions to put his financial ambitions before the franchise’s success and he is happy with the amount of money he is making.

"I'm not trying to screw them, you know. This is a partnership. That's the only way this is going to work, and the best way things work in this situation is that we're in this thing together. And if they make that financial commitment, that's what they're saying, and also there's an expectation that you're going to play well. And then that's my side of the bargain."

"They paid me a lot of money, and they never had a major salary-cap year (…) So in both our opinions, we've been able to still add guys to the mix and have a competitive team. And from my standpoint, they paid me a ton of money. And I'm super extremely financially blessed and very happy."

The Super Bowl MVP seems to be happy with his current contract. However, this does not explain why they haven't reached an agreement after months of discussions. Rodgers is arguably the best player of the league, Tom Brady is the only guy who could compete for this title, but still, the Patriots quarterback is in the twilight his career, whereas the Green Bay player is in his prime. If you hold the title of best player in any professional league, you deserve to be making more money than most of the other guys out there, and Rodgers knows that. So, this might explain why he has not signed an extension, despite his wishes to not “screw” his team.
