The Washington Redskins will be posting perennial Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson for a visit this week, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

The 33-year-old Peterson is nearing the end of a career that will surely get him into the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday. A torn meniscus limited him to just three games in 2016, and he'd appear in only 10 last year, split with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals.

Peterson signed a two-year contract worth $7 million with the Saints in 2017, but he totaled a woeful 81 yards in four game appearances. After voicing his displeasure over the lack of carries and playing time, Peterson was dealt to the Cardinals, who lost star running back David Johnson for the season.

There, Peterson showed a few more flashes and totaled 448 rushing yards on 129 carries, while adding nine receptions for 66 yards. If the Redskins give Peterson a contract, one can expect it to be his last in the NFL, however.

The Redskins don't have a bonafide No. 1 running back on the roster, so Peterson would have a chance to earn the most reps if he signs with them. Right now, Chris Thompson, Rob Kelley, Byron Marshall, Kappri Bibbs and injured rookie Samaje Perine are the running backs on the roster.

Peterson is a seven-time Pro Bowler and took home the 2012 MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards. He's totaled 12,276 rushing yards and 99 touchdowns throughout his career, and has been by far the best running back of the past decade.

It's very rare for running backs to perform at a high level in their 30s, and Peterson is 33. He isn't a Pro Bowler anymore, but perhaps AP can split the carries with another running back.

But first, he has to show the Redskins he has some football left in him, then they'll decide if it's worth giving Peterson a contract or not.
