AEW continues to pile on big announcements when it comes to their first tv episode on TNT. They just announced a new Women's Champion will be crowned.

According to a report by Sports Illustrated. AEW will crown the first-ever AEW Women's Champion during the AEW on TNT premiere episode slated for October 2, 2019. Already announced for the show are matches featuring Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, an appearance by Jon Moxley and two surprise mystery partners for Chris Jericho. Adding a Women's title match means the episode will be jammed-packed with action.

AEW has not mentioned or explained how they will crown this first-ever AEW Women's Champion but AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes has already mentioned the belt will be presented at All Out on August 31st and Rhodes told SI that more details on the title, and the wrestlers who will first compete for it, will be revealed during a "Road to All Out" episode on YouTube next Wednesday.

Brandi said of the new title, "For many female wrestlers, the opportunity to fight for the title represents the crowning achievement of their careers." It remains to be seen if Rhodes will include herself in that group. What she did say was that "The AEW women's championship will be the cornerstone of the women's division."

What This Means

It's only natural that AEW should have a Women's Championship considering how much of an emphasis they've placed on women's wrestling to date. What might be interesting is what kind of backlash, if any, Rhodes gets for presenting and promoting the title but also making herself part of the title picture. She already has taken a bit of criticism for having a featured match on an AEW pay-per-view and that match not being up to the level of many of the other AEW competitors.
