Paige will announce AJ Styles' SummerSlam opponent next week on SmackDown Live, and it is rumored that man will be Samoa Joe.

AJ Styles is currently racking up quite the number of days when it comes to his current WWE Title reign. The Phenomenal One defeated Jinder Mahal for the championship prior to Survivor Series 2017 and, at the time of typing this, has held it for 254 days. In fact, when you combine both of Styles' title reigns he is already 14th overall and just two days away from equaling Shawn Michaels 396 days.

The next time Styles has to defend the WWE Championship will probably be at SummerSlam, and right now we don't know who his opponent will be. We don't have to wait much longer though. SmackDown Live General Manager, Paige has revealed that she will announce The Phenomenal One's opponent this coming Tuesday night.

There are a few names on SmackDown Live that fit the bill right now, but according to Cageside Seats, Styles' next suitor will be Samoa Joe. Daniel Bryan looks like he will be battling with The Miz so that takes those two out of the equation, Rusev's chance has been and gone, the next man in line for a title shot has to be Joe. However, early reports are also suggesting that Styles will still be champion after SummerSlam.

While the match obviously hasn't been confirmed quite yet, if you had told either Joe or Styles a few years ago that they would be wrestling for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam they would have probably laughed in your face. Two guys who helped build TNA/Impact Wrestling in one of WWE's biggest matches of the year. Hopefully the rumors are true because if it happens, it will likely be match of the night.

SummerSlam is currently shaping up to be quite the event, even though we know very little about it right now. We could see Brock Lesnar lose the Universal Title, Miz and Bryan are probably finally going to clash in a televised match, and Ronda Rousey will be getting another shot at the Raw Women's Title. SummerSlam is supposed to be almost as big as WrestleMania, and right now the card is shaping up to have that feel about it.
