It's well known by now that the contract of WWE superstar AJ Styles expires soon, and with All Elite Wrestling trying to pry away some major talents, folks are watching closely to see if The Phenomenal One will jump ship.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Styles and the WWE " been in discussions for some time," and the promotion "has made a strong play" in re-signing the former WWE Champion. Johnson did note that there could be "strong interest" from AEW if Styles decides to leave, given his history with The Young Bucks.
But so far, there aren't any indicators that Styles wants to leave WWE, amid rumors that many other talents are on their way out. The Usos, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Gallows & Anderson also have contracts running up shortly, and it's anybody's guess if these superstars end up re-signing with WWE or going elsewhere.
It's also been reported that Rusev, Lana, Mike and Maria Kanellis and The Revival are unhappy with their roles, and all could opt to leave soon. WrestleVotes also reported that AEW is making a strong push for one of the WWE's top stars, though they didn't disclose the name.
Throw in Dean Ambrose's upcoming departure, and there surely has to be some worry inside the WWE about losing top talents. Thus, it becomes more vital to try and retain Styles - one of the biggest and most marketed superstars in the wrestling world today.
Since joining the WWE in 2016, Styles has experienced plenty of championship success, and perhaps no superstar has garnered more popularity over the last three years. WWE has made him the main face of SmackDown Live, so it'd be a huge loss if The Phenomenal One decided to leave.
What This Means
The situation with Styles will bear close watching, and we should find out before long if here-signs or not. In the meantime, it'll be interesting to see what happens with the other superstars who are rumored to depart when their deals expire.
