Liverpool has made a bid for Roma's Alisson and while no fee has been agreed, it is likely going to cost the Premier League side a lot of money.

Even though the World Cup only finished three days ago, time is already ticking on the transfer window as we head toward the new season. Aside from Cristiano Ronaldo's massive move to Juventus, it seems as if some of Europe's top goalkeepers will be stealing the limelight in this window. Something of a merry-go-round is about to begin, it's just a question of who makes the first move.

That move was reportedly made by Liverpool this week. Sky In Italy has reported that the Merseyside club has made an offer for Roma's shot-stopper, Alisson. A fee has not been agreed upon yet, however, there are a couple of numbers being reported. The latest seems to be that Liverpool's bid for the Brazilian is in the region of $81 million but Roma is holding out for closer to $90 million.

Sky Sports initially reported that Liverpool was not interested in making a move for Alisson since Real Madrid had its eye on him, however, the Spanish side's interest in Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois seems to have changed that. Real may still play a part in the deal though. If Courtois does leave London for Madrid, then Chelsea may join the hunt for Alisson to replace the Belgian.

As you can see, this is the goalkeeper merry-go-round that we referenced earlier. If Courtois moves to Real, Alisson could go to Chelsea, then Roma may look to Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel to fill the number one spot at the Stadio Olimpico. If all of that happens, however, Liverpool will still be without someone it trusts to play in goal for the club next season. At this stage, it seems like a race between Liverpool and Chelsea for Alisson's signature.

Whoever wins the race for Alisson, it looks as if the Brazilian keeper's transfer fee will set a new world record. It's a long-standing one too. Juventus paid $60 million for Gianluigi Buffon all the way back in 2001. No one has paid more for a goalkeeper since, however, Alisson's fee will top that figure wherever he ends up going this summer.
