Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery continues to recover from shoulder surgery, and he may not be ready to play in their season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Jeffery is still on the physically unable to perform list, following rotator cuff surgery. And with their season opener against the Falcons just three weeks away, the clock is ticking on Jeffery to get healthy and return in time.

The Eagles will likely have starting quarterback Carson Wentz healthy for the season, and he'll still have a handful of pass-catchers to work with if Jeffery doesn't suit up. The always-reliable tight end and Super Bowl hero Zach Ertz, slot receiver Nelshon Agholor lightning-quick newcomer Mike Wallace are among the options.

After five seasons with the Chicago Bears, Jeffery signed a one-year deal worth $14 million with the Eagles in 2017. Philadelphia would then give him a four-year, $52 million extension in December.

Jeffery turned his game on in the postseason, catching 12 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns. He had a beautiful score in Super Bowl 52, catching a jump ball from quarterback Nick Foles to score the first touchdown of the big game.

Jeffery was an excellent fit under head coach Doug Pederson and his complicated offense. The Eagles took it to another level in 2017, gashing the opposing defenses with precision and flashy play-calling.

The good news for the Eagles is that Jeffery shouldn't be sidelined much longer, and he still has a month to be ready for Week 2. Even if he's out longer than that, the Eagles won a Super Bowl with a backup quarterback. They know how to get by without starters.

But few wide receivers create so many mismatches like Jeffery, and he completely changes the dynamic of the offense, so it's important that the Eagles get him back as soon as possible.
